Hey I've always had problems going to sleep at night but over the last couple weeks its really starting to become a problem. I've tried reading myself to sleep like I'd usually do... thats not working I read to books one night last week. One of my teachers said that I should try taking one tylonal pm before I go to sleep, but sense I don't happen to have any of that laying around the house I can't try it.

So I was wondering what all of you do if you can't sleep at night?

You should keep your room cool, in comparrison to the rest of your house, and only use your bed for sleeping. Try taking a hot shower right before you go to bed (in your nice cool room).

Also, you might try drinking a glass of milk (not necesarily warm, 'cause, eww), or listen to some soothing music, but only music, no lyrics.

Hope some of that helps.

I like the soothing music idea, Kindred. My sister asked me to download some rainforest-y, nature music this summer. And that's all we did to fall asleep to for the entire summer. Just left the computer on and the music was great.

I usually do the reading to fall asleep thing too. Of course it has to be something you'd otherwise never read. It works for me because I stay up really late anyway, so either way I'm tired. But one thing you can try, that might either help or make you even more awake is doing some sort of work out. Do a couple pushups to get yourself exhausted or maybe some crunches. Sometimes that makes me even more awake than I already am, but it's 50/50. And if that doesn't work, try sitting in a really uncomfortable chair for awhile before you usually hit the pillow. It makes it really relaxing when you finally lay down at bamm!, you're out. Definitely don't eat or drink to much before you go to bed, because a full stomach is going to keep you up; I always make that mistake. These are all just personal techniques and probably don't do anything for anybody else. I hope they help though.🙂

Oh, and Tara Maclay/Daydreamer... welcome back to the boards.😀

hey thankies Oz I wasn't sure if you'd remember me or not lol.

Thanks a bunch for the advice both of you. I already to crunches before I go to bed that wakes me up but I'll try to find some soothing music to listen to. Now that the music has been mentioned I thought of the soothing sounds one of my teachers play while we are reading it definatly helps you to relax.

Lately i've been having the same problems, it's usually thoughts stuck in your head. For example, your trying to sleep and dozing off and then you think of something out of the blue and it just becomes a reoccurence. I've tried sleeping tablets, but they just make me drowsy the next morning. (not good for lectures!)

But yeah, soothing music without lyrics works, if not try comfortable settings like previously stated above. Humidity, light on/off, door open/closed... those sorts of things.

Glad to have you back with us Dd! 🙂

Yeah,me too, over the past two weeks,Ive been having a LOT of trouble getting to sleep, and i dont get to sleep till around 1/2a.m then I wake up around 5 times and I wake up looking trashed,I tried the soothing music-and it does work,or I'll read Harry Potter or something for a while

Im having sleep probs lately.
Its weird, and really annoying. I think its just all, school stuff...

Well, I know what helps me is laying down...lol...
Nah, really, when I was younger I used to have lots of problems like that and my aunt told me to close my eyes and think of a movie I know really well and just play it through my head. This turned into me making up my own movies/stories and hey, next thing I know I'm waking up the next day. Kinda nice. And sometimes I dream about my stories which is REALLY nice...
I think it helps because it keeps your mind focused so you aren't chasing a million thoughts that keep you up. Well, it works for me anyway...

When I cant sleep I usually read but seen as my very kind Cousin lent me some Buffy tapes but they dont really help me get to sleep as I get so into them and stay awake till something like 4. But when I cant get to sleep I just read for a bit and if i still cant get to sleep I roam around my house for a bit and do things. OoOoo and Hot Chocolate helps or Horlicks...

Toss and turn, untill finally after a few hours, finally fall asleep, only to wake up exhausted the next morning.

When I go to sleep I have a little problem, everyone says that I lean my head to the side and dont lay straight!

I got this CD with relaxing music it is called mind, body sprit and it helps you clean your day out and relax into the nite.

Also I don't know why but when I try to get to sleep I always think "I am going to wake up tomoro, over and over and about 10 mins later I'm knocked out! zzzz

Once in a while i have problems dropping off to sleep. I have a warm bath with some lavender oil, or lavender bubble bath in. That helps for me. I find a shower tends to wake me up.

A warm milky drink can help, having your bedroom at a comfortable temperature, relaxing music, and sometimes if you just lay on your back and relax each part of your body can help too.

Hope it all gets sorted out soon, lack of sleep is horrible.

I normally knock myself unconcus to fall asleep.

This turned into me making up my own movies/stories and hey, next thing I know I'm waking up the next day. Kinda nice. And sometimes I dream about my stories which is REALLY nice...
Actually this is exactlt what I do every night. I create little stroies with me as the main character.

OMG! I do the same brain tecnique as Zander! Oh crap! I really am crazy! 😛

It is great isn't it? I actually look forward to going to bed just so I can fall into my own world. There are no rules there...

I'm a known insomniac. I've never been able to get to sleep at night(and to think, I'm not even 16 yet!!!!!) My problem is that my mind never seems to shut off. I'm always thinking about things, or I'll be laying there trying to fall asleep and this awsome story idea(working on an original story) just pops into my mind. I've adapted to the lack of sleep. I've tried almost everything except the sleeping pills(makes me too groggy, I hate that feeling) so I just deal with it, and I, lately, have been cat napping.

i also need at least 1 or 2 hours lying in bed in order to sleep, but i'm used to that and it also gives me time to listen to music peacefully and make my neighbores hate me more, just put music on and that's it

I've had problems falling asleep since I was about eight. I used to keep a flashlight hidden under my bed and after my parents tucked me in I'd pop on the flashlight and read under the covers until around two o'clock AM.

My parents would get furious, and they kept waiting for me to outgrow it. Well, now I'm 29 and I still stay up reading every night until two or three AM. I never outgrew it and I'm a more-or-less fully functional and (reluctantly) productive member of society. My point is - don't sweat it. Some people just have crackmonkey sleep schedules.

Although if you find GETTING UP in the morning after staying up late to be a problem, you might want to think about start times when you're deciding on a career field. 🙂

I have trouble sleeping also!I usually cant sleep no matter how tired i am...Usually i am upset about something or excited...But this whole month has been an upsetting thing.Anyways, still having troubles...So i cant help you...But i know how it is....Im sitting there in the pure dark yawning my booty off (infact i am yawning right as i type) all i want is to sleep!!!Anyways....Sorry i cant help!

or try lucid dreaming... you would put a lot of effort in lucid dreaming which would cause normal sleeping rather easy...
