Yup. Just like when he told Robin his mom never loved him. It’s the cruelest thing he could have said but it doesn’t take a mastermind to figure out what to say. Does Spike himself believe that? Does he believe that Buffy herself doesn’t love Dawn because she’s the slayer or did he just say what would hurt the most?

Actually, let's see. I'm looking at main characters from both shows. I'm not counting dreams (so no Angel/Cordelia because of the soul removal spell), and out and out rape/SA (so no Angel and Holtz's wife).

Spike: Drusilla, Harmony, and Buffy. So not the biggest if we're going by numbers.

Angel: Darla, Buffy, Nina (I'm not counting Cordelia and the soul removal spell). IMPLIED Drusilla.

Xander: Faith, Anna

Willow; Oz, Tara, Kennedy

Giles: Olivia, Joyce, IMPLIED Jenny Calendar

Wesley: Fred, Lyla, "bleached blonde", Virginia

Fred: Gunn, Wesley

Cordelia: Wilson, Connor, Gru

Gunn: Fred, Gwen

So actually, of the main cast of both shows Buffy and Wesley have slept with the most... at a grand total of 4. Angel possibly ties this number.

So yeah, no one is really slutting it up on either show.

At that point in the series, Spike only had sex with Drusilla, his immortal beloved, and Harmony, who seems to think she is in relationship. Again, promiscuity is relative, but when you are an immortal, amoral pretty boy vampire with the stink of humanity and the the libido of a 17 year old, that's pretty chase. We saw in season 7 that Spike has no trouble with picking up attractive women. So, unless he's whoring off screen, which I can't rule out, pretty chase.

Although, I kinda like the idea, as vampirism is a cursed existence, eternal promiscuity would quickly lose its luster, and the needy human inside them would eventually start craving actual intimacy, but the serial killer version of craving intimacy, which vampires would be incapable of. Eventually, the only joy would be from drinking, every thing else would be as ash.

S7 Spike alludes to the fact he'd rape some of his victims. That's obviously very different from committed relationships/casual flings though.

I think when he was first turned, he was completely devoted to Dru, but once he settled into his 'role' as a vampire, that all bets were off (Or perhaps he shared victims along with Dru). Can't know for certain of course, just my guess.

I could see Spike seducing a bunch of victims, particularly from the 1960s onward.

Vampires in that world did use thrall - they referred to it as a 'glamour'. Kinda wish they had made use of it in BTVS - or merely discussed it.

Glamour was specifically mentioned in Not Fade Away as the means by which the office meeting that set up the plan for fighting the last battle was made to look like a normal office meeting. A glamour is a magic spell used to make something look like something else.

Thrall is a bit different - it is a spell used to have one person give total power and submission to another.
