One thing you should know about the broader category of eating disorders is Anorexia does not always appear with the classic symptoms of simply starving oneself to death.

There are different categories of eating disorders, and they often intermingle. Sometimes you will see Anorexics who are also bulemic. Some suffering eating disorders binge and starve. Sometimes you will see all 3 activities.

I'm thinking Get It Done would be the best episode to get a good glimpse of Sarah's arm's, because she's wearing a cocktail dress. Also, if she ever wore a pushup bra, that's where she'd wear it. Is that the episode you're talking about, Polexia?

My theory is unless we know these people on a personal level, we can't know by just looking at them. I mean there are alot of factors that go into weight, and if you are normally small and when you are on a show that demands that much work you can lose a lot of weight unintentonally. Like last year I lost 12 pounds and not on purpose, so you can never know, like when Christina Aguilera went on tour and she lost a lot of weight and people kept saying she was anorexic...but she couldnt keep on the pounds, she was trying to gain weight. Now I do know that there is a possiblity that she could be, but that possiblitity is also a possiblity to every girl in the world...the odds are againt every single girl in this world to be anorexic or have anyother eating disorder, and thats sad. What are the odd like 4 to 1 or even less right? No matter their weight there is peer pressure and the few pounds here and there, the parents that give their kids low self esstem, control of ones self, and many other situations as well...there are even odds against guys to be anorexic or bulimic. But thats all I have to say, Im just stating my opinon...thanks for reading😀

Pretty much everything you say makes sense Dreamer, but here's a question for you.

Given what you and me both know about eating disorders having watched someone we care about suffer through them, and given the fact celebrities are more likely to suffer from them because of the pressures forced on them, do you think it's a good idea to present celebrities as role models for weight loss?

No, I dont think so, I dont think that the media really should be there are soo many problems. Most of the magazine articles w/ pictures of celebs are usually air brused and made to look like the celebs are skinnier or have bigger breast, or toner arms then they really and truly have. I think looking at an actress as a weight role model isnt a way to go, unless you know everything about their work out schedule and food that they eat to the key and are sure that it is safe, which I bet is LOW when it comes to celebs. And also you have to think about body type, you cant assume to get a body like a certian celeb if your body type is incrediably different. I normally look at celebs as a role model in other ways. Smg is my role model, but for the fact that I think shes is a good and focused person, not because of her size or her looks.

I agee with you Dreamer. I also am a fan of SMG's acting. I also am able to separate that, from any endorsement of evident, sudden and drastic weight loss I might notice.

I'll go farther than you though. I don't like it.

It scares me when I hear things like some fangirl saying "Isn't it cool how much weight SMG has lost. I lost 20 lbs last month. I'm just like SMG."

I've listened to all the comments on this thread. I've examined all the evidence, and I've made up my mind.

I look at S-1 SMG, compare her to S-7 SMG and something bad happened. The girl playing Buffy in Season 1 is thin, natural, and healthy. The girl playing Buffy in Season 7 is thinner, and sickly.

In my opinion this noticeable and drastic change could only be explained by a debilitatating disease such as an eating disorder.

Natural causes don't explain it. The human animal, male or female does not lose weight naturally from 17 to 23. They gain. The loss of 2 bra cup sizes cannot be explained by lack of a pushup bra. Just look at Buffy in Chosen. It isn't that she forgot to bring her pushup. It's that there's nothing to push up. Yes SMG is naturally thin and small boned. That doesn't explain the fact in Season 7 she is obviously, drastically thinner than she was in S-1. More importantly than that. In Season 7 she looks sick.

Not only would I warn fans against using SMG as a model for weight loss. I would point at her and say, "Don't let that happen to you".

Sarah appears to be getting better though. I'm glad.

I still dont think she is. And I'll agree there is a chance, but even so its not our business. Im actually watching season 7 and she seems healthy to me, although I dont think Emma does, but then again, I dont know her on a personal level, so I can't be sure about anything. Yes, girls generally gain weight after the age of 18, but thats just generally, it depends on a lot of factors. Im 19, and Ive lost weight. I eat junk food, dont exercise. But Ive gone from120ish to 105 in less then a year...and Im just about an inch taller then SMG. Ive had people come up to me and ask me if I ve lost weight..and Im like, I guess. I didnt even realize it til my aunt told me that I had and she said it was very noticable.
Now Im not really arguing that shes not anorexic, or that she is..but I really am arguing for SMG cause I really dont think its our business to be talking about something so personal when we dont even know her and dont have valid proof...In my opinon that is.

i was just saying that sarah could have a serious problem and in real life emma is not that skinny she is normal size- i think that if SMG does have a health problem she needs help! and of course we cant do anything about it but this is a discussion board where we discuss and also wow this tthread got a lotta responses! i guess i started a little debate here! go rene!!!!! go rene!!!! its your birthday......

Yes, there is always the possiblity that SMG has a disorder..but there is no proof..and as I said earlier, its really not our business. And I did want to point out that b/t the final taping of Buffy and the teen choice awards there was less then 5 months. For her to look like she did in those pics, and if she was supposedly anorexic before..I just dont believe that if she were she would progress that quickly in that amount of time. Actually it would be quite the opposite..worse before it gets better. Thats why I stay w/ my argument that it was her work that made her loose so much weight. She now got sleep and rest instead of long houred days they left her exausted. And on the subject of Emma she doesnt look normal size shes actually smaller then SMG in some pics I was looking at where they were next to eachother. Not that Im saying shes anorexic or anything...I was just saying what I saw. Again I feel as though its really not my business to talk about something so personal especially since there is not any proof.

Actually Dreamer, yes, 5 months is plenty of time to rebuild your body to the point it's noticeable. Even being careful, which you should be in such a case, you can notice a substantial difference in a month.

As far as SMG or any other celebrity who seems to be undergoing unnatural weight loss, yes I think it's our business. More than that I think it's out duty to notice, and point it out. I think any potentially dangerous activity of a celebrity should be identified as such, and held up for critical evaluation. If not people say "Hey, so and so's doing it, and it seems OK".

I'd like to redirect the subject for a sec, though. You bring up an interesting point. At what point does it become our business?

Can I tell you a story? It concerns the girl I know who was destroyed by an eating disorder.

I used to talk to her before anyone knew what her problem was. She had this habit of dropping hints she had a problem. I think maybe she wanted help, but she didn't know how to ask.

I didn't clue in of course. Well why would I? I didn't know the first thing about eating disorders at the time.

The first clue she gave me was when she told me her doctor weighed her every time she visited. I laughed and asked if he thought she was one of those Aly Macbeal girls? She laughed too. Then we both laughed at how ridiculous that was.

Later she would tell me how she was losing weight, but it was just one of those natural things that happened to girls her age. She told me she weighed 105 lbs. She was about SMGs size. She weighed herself all the time, but she was always careful not to let me see what the scale said.

One time we were discussing how people stuck there fingers down their throats to vomit. She told me how she used to try it, but it didn't work. This struck me as odd, because she didn't seem the type to try something like that, or even to talk about such a gross activity, for that matter. I should have asked myself why she would want to vomit. The way she described it to me, she didn't just probe with a curious finger, she attempted the maneuvre with serious intent to vomit.

She would make a point of telling me how people had been noticing she'd lost her appetite lately.

I was completely clueless. I didn't have a clue about eating disorders at the time, or the warning signals they try to hint at you to tell you they need help.

I sometimes ask myself what I would have done if I did know. Would I have made it my business? I hope I would have. I hope I would have at least offered to listen to her privately if she wanted to talk about it.

By the way-- Your aunt, the one who thought you were getting too thin: would she be the mother of the cousin, you were saying was anorexic?

Well when it comes to people we know, yes it is completely our business. I keep and eye on my cousin all the time and make sure that she eats, and that she isn't losing any weight, and if she were I would def make it my business. Including any friends I know. Actually one of my friends b/m anorexic, but it was after she moved to another state in the middle of high school. One of my friends went and saw her and told me how gaudy and skinny she had gotten, which btw she was skinny before she left. But my friend told me that she didnt say anything to our friend b/c it was none of her business. And I disagree, maybe not to our friend she should have said something, but she should have talked to our friends mother or someone that could have helped her. I have no clue how that friend is doing for the fact I have had no contact w/ her. I just hope her mom wanted to make it her business. Not all of them but there are so many parents that let it slip, they think "its just a phase" and or "so shes/hes lost a little weight' or they dont want to make their son or daughter mad. Some people don't catch on b/c they are so secretive, and looking at the clues don't always work. Sometimes we see what we want to see and not what s really there, and breaking that barrier is hard. We don't want to think that someone we know has a problem. And its not anyone's fault its just a barrier every person already has. You just have to somehow find away to look beyond that barrier and see whats on the otherside.

But what I was saying is that I personally don't think its our business to be talking about something so personal about someone we dont know. I do think that someone should point out if any celebrity has lost a tremendous amount of weight. But I don't think you can say that a person is anorexic w/o any proof.
The wieght thing w/ SMG yes you can build that much back up in a month, but if you have a problem like that building yourself back up in a month is not going to happen. It took my cousin years to get her weight to a good level. And thats b/c it takes alot therapy and a long tikme to get yourself to eat actual food and not a little here and a little there. My cousin is now a work out freak, and that worries me as well. But my mom says that it is better then her starving herself. Which she doesnt, I live right below her and I keep and eye on her. But she is still very concious about her weight, even though she shouldnt be. But she will never not be, anorexia stays with you forever. Along w/ anyother diesease like that.

Answer to your question: No that wasn't my cousin's mom, it was both mine and my cousin's aunt. And she didn't say I was to skinny she just said that I had lost weight.

I gotta say Well Said!I kinda agree there,BUT i do think she has lost a lot of weight-Im not saying anything nasty Im just saying my opinion

I don't think she's anorexic, but she's quite skinny. She seems to have gained some weight after Buffy ended.

The major thing i look for as a sign is in the face. Weather it starts to look hollow and drawn. This is difficult with SMG as the only time one sees her, she is wearing heavy stage makeup.

But also, just by comparing photos from as late as season four to season seven, one can see that there is deffinately a discrepincy of some kind.

And, on a personal (completely subjective) note, i think that the thinner she gets, the odder her butt looks (especially when she wears jeans). Am i the only one who has noticed this?

One thing that i deffinately have to agree with Nerd4hire on is that she avoides the fans. She never participated in the conventions and the like, even though everyone else was there. The only endorsements for Buffy that I ever once saw from her were the ones aired during Buffy on FX.

Regardless of what the truth is, i think that SMG could deffinately stand to gain some weight.

A lot of talk has been done about Sarah's weight over the seasons of Buffy. I was wondering which one you guys prefer?

I personally like seeing a little meat on someone rather than skin and bones. Just my preference. Of course, I'm probably just jealous that I could never get that skinny.

I have to go with meatier, one cause it's healthier and two cause anyone with super slayer powers who trains as much as Buffy "˜should' isn't going to be skin and bones, come on people, muscles are good.
