Actually Dreamer, yes, 5 months is plenty of time to rebuild your body to the point it's noticeable. Even being careful, which you should be in such a case, you can notice a substantial difference in a month.
As far as SMG or any other celebrity who seems to be undergoing unnatural weight loss, yes I think it's our business. More than that I think it's out duty to notice, and point it out. I think any potentially dangerous activity of a celebrity should be identified as such, and held up for critical evaluation. If not people say "Hey, so and so's doing it, and it seems OK".
I'd like to redirect the subject for a sec, though. You bring up an interesting point. At what point does it become our business?
Can I tell you a story? It concerns the girl I know who was destroyed by an eating disorder.
I used to talk to her before anyone knew what her problem was. She had this habit of dropping hints she had a problem. I think maybe she wanted help, but she didn't know how to ask.
I didn't clue in of course. Well why would I? I didn't know the first thing about eating disorders at the time.
The first clue she gave me was when she told me her doctor weighed her every time she visited. I laughed and asked if he thought she was one of those Aly Macbeal girls? She laughed too. Then we both laughed at how ridiculous that was.
Later she would tell me how she was losing weight, but it was just one of those natural things that happened to girls her age. She told me she weighed 105 lbs. She was about SMGs size. She weighed herself all the time, but she was always careful not to let me see what the scale said.
One time we were discussing how people stuck there fingers down their throats to vomit. She told me how she used to try it, but it didn't work. This struck me as odd, because she didn't seem the type to try something like that, or even to talk about such a gross activity, for that matter. I should have asked myself why she would want to vomit. The way she described it to me, she didn't just probe with a curious finger, she attempted the maneuvre with serious intent to vomit.
She would make a point of telling me how people had been noticing she'd lost her appetite lately.
I was completely clueless. I didn't have a clue about eating disorders at the time, or the warning signals they try to hint at you to tell you they need help.
I sometimes ask myself what I would have done if I did know. Would I have made it my business? I hope I would have. I hope I would have at least offered to listen to her privately if she wanted to talk about it.
By the way-- Your aunt, the one who thought you were getting too thin: would she be the mother of the cousin, you were saying was anorexic?
