So who else can't wait for Arrow?

I'm a big fan of the Green Arrow, well at least in theory if not execution in his current run, but anyway the show looks really good. So who else is looking forward to it?
 
Ever since I watched Smallville I've been a fan of Oliver Quinn. I'm kinda bummed that it's not going to be the same actor, but I look forward to it 🙂
 
I don't know, I'll give it a shot, but I don't have sky high hopes for it or anything.

I've heard that it takes place outside of the realm of Smallville, so it isn't the Oliver Queen we've seen on that show. That seemed a little strange to me. To have a show about Green Arrow, on the same network as Smallville, but it not being a spin-off was a little murky.

The promos look kind of cool though. I've never been a huge Green Arrow fan (especially since the DC relaunch. They just erased the last 30 years of GA continuity), the only time I was really into him was during Brad Meltzer's limited series called "Identity Crisis", but I loves' me my superheroes, so I'll take a look.

I've never seen Smallville, but I'm kind of glad it is in it's own universe. It doesn't have to worry about continuity. It can tell its own story.

I think I'll check out Arrow. Looks interesting, though I do really like Smallville's Oliver Queen. 😀
 
I'll be watching it. The trailer looks really good and it has a darker edge to it that Smallville did, in my opinion. Green Arrow has always been a little bit of a darker character. I am disappointed that Justin Hartley isnt playing the character again though.
 
I know hardly anything about Green Arrow, but I love superhero stuff so I'll definitely watch it. And I read that John Barrowman has a part in it!!

I am going to try it out, but I really wish Justin Hartley from Smallville was still going to play Oliver Queen. :\

I liked Justin Hartley, but I think it would have been confusing. From what I understand they're really trying to separate it from Smallville. It isn't the same continuity or the same shared universe at all. So if they cast Hartley (even if he was great in the role), from Smallville but also made the point of "Arrow" being it's own thing, it would have gotten muddled pretty quickly, especially for new viewers.

I just don't understand why they aren't making it a spinoff. You don't need to dig through ten years of Smallville continuity to understand it. I mean, that's worked in many other shows that were spinoffs of hugely successful programs. Look no further than Angel for that.

And especially with Marvel just scoring so heavily on everything being shared and together with their cinematic universe. I'm not sure what DC and Warner Bros. has planned movie wise, but you'd think they'd want to continue off Smallville.

as much as I really like Justin Hartley, I think it was easier for them to not make a spinoff from Smallville. Of course they wouldn't need to go further than S5 or S6 of Smallville (can't remember when Green arrow made his first appearance), but they would stille need to include Erica Durance, Allison Mack and Tom Welling at one point. And they would have to continue Superman's story in the background.

Even with Angel, there was still updates with Buffy's storyline. Buffy, Faith, Willow... they all made appearances and they creators of Arrow would have to include Clark, Lois, etc. at one point.

And Green Arrow's story was pretty much explained in Smallville... There were a lot of details and a few episodes dedicated mostly to him. That would make it a harder ground to start a new show on.

I still would have liked to see Justin in it, though.
 
I don't know much about Oliver Queen (I haven't gotten to him yet in Smallville), but the new show does look pretty good and interesting so I'll probably watch it.
 
As a comic book fan I'll definitely be watching this show. Looks really good and if it's anything like Smallville then count me in. Never read a Green Arrow comic though so I don't know much about the character but I'm sure I'll learn!
 
Hmmm.....just watched the trailer. Hey, the guy playing Green Arrow looks hot so I'll give it a shot. 😀 (no pun intended) LOL I'd like to say I'm totally kidding but I'm not. 😀 😀

Yes, you would. Angel originated from Buffy, but Green Arrow didn't originate from Smallville. No one wants to see Oliver married with a kid to Chloe, he has his own love interests and supporting casts to interact with. Better to just base the show off the comics.

Not to mention the meteor freaks and every other superhero running around in Smallville continuity. The last thing we need is Lana to show up.
 
After looking over some of the previews I'm feeling more optimistic about the show. My only big concern is I haven't heard anyone mention the political themes of the character, which I think are rather important to who Green Arrow is as a character. Without that he's just Batman with a bow. For anyone who doesn't know, Green Arrow is kind of DC's resident leftist, kind of a modern day Robin Hood sort of.
 
I just watched the premiere of Arrow (had it PVR'ed) and it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I don't really know why, but my expectations weren't exactly high for it, but I really enjoyed the pilot.

They seem to have crossed Smallville with Batman Begins, but created their own thing as well. The tone is similar to Smallville (the Luthor mansion is now the Queen mansion), but not nearly as stylized, which was one of my biggest complaints with the way Smallville went in the latter seasons.

The guy they got to play Oliver Queen certainly looks like a superhero (he's jacked), and I liked him as the lead. He didn't blow me away like Christian Bale did, but I actually think he'll make a better Green Arrow than Justin Hartley on Smallville. Also, my concerns that the series would be a bit muddled considering all the Green Arrow continuity established on Smallville weren't realized at all.

They've already established some cool long-distance mysteries that I'm sure will play out over the season. And they aren't holding back on introducing the key Green Arrow characters from the comics, which I think is awesome.

So far it's shown a lot of promise. Time will tell of course, but I'm liking it so far.
 
I enjoyed the premier a lot, and yeah it does have a smallville/batman begins feel. Makes sense since it and smallville are both CW shows and this Green Arrow is supposed to be in a world without actually super powers from what I hear, like batman begin s world. I hate the detective actor, such a tool.
