Some new hints about Twilight (spoilers?)

How old do you guys think the Annointed One would have been by now?

Same age. Vampires don't get older.

I've been thinking about the Adam = Twilight possibility lately.

* They have the same general build, similar manner of speaking, seemingly similar attitudes.

* Adam was primarily a creature of technology, not magic (although he did have some demon essence)

* He was defeated by Slayer magic, which would cause him to be particularly interested in destroying it, and them

* He had a special sense of connection to Riley, and now Riley is (apparently) working for Twilight

* He has a history of using demons and vampires for his own ends, fully intending that they be destroyed when their usefulness is at an end.

With what he said concerning art, concept wise and thinking it would take a lot longer to get it right has me wishing that twilight has two forms, one a human and another some weird thing/monster. I don't think an artist would say a character would be hard to draw and expect many tries at it to get it right. It makes me think twilight has two distinct forms. The ones comic viewer have saw and another one

Now the only lycanthrope guy I know of is Oz, and hell to the no with that train of thought.

I really really hope that Twilight is Mayor W, back from the hellmouth, like somehow the explosion sucked him in and destroyed his body, but not his soul....that his body was in a state of flux when he was giving a try to eating everyone up and somehow he held on to his mortal form.

It won't happen, but I'd love to see the mayor revisited in the comics, and a big old fight too.

I apologize for all the rapant, warrantless, speculation. I have not even read any of the comics yet. I better stay out of these threads or I'm going to ruin the experience for me!

I think Adam would be the most logical Twilight, since Twilight has pretty much picked up where Adam's original mission left off (harvesting the supernatural to benefit the US Military and killing anything in their way).

Only two problems I'd see:

1.) Where's the twist? The scoobies will be surprised he's a live, but there'd be no real shock on their ends.

2.) Adam has a green chin.

In this case, the twist would not be in Twilight's identity, but in which of Buffy's friends betrays her to him (as per "Anywhere But Here").

Adam's body will probably have been modified and improved since we last saw him. Georges Jeanty says that when he found out who Twilight was, he thought he and Joss would be going back and forth for quite some time with character designs.

Points against: How did he know about the crotch-splitting move Buffy used against Caleb... did she ever try a similar attack against Adam?

Why does he wear a mask? There has to be some specific reason for this other than concealment... he wears the mask at all times, not just in the presence of people who might remember him as Adam. (I think Buffy and Riley are the only ones he's met face-to-face who would). This holds true pretty much no matter who Twilight is... the only one of Buffy's friends or enemies who might be recognizable to the public at large would be Angel.

And, I don't know if Joss would recycle a previous season's Big Bad that way... especially the one who was probably the least effective and least scary of all the BB's... unless he wants to rehabilitate a character who didn't work out all that well the first time around.

Twilight's policy of trying to turn his enemies against each other (e.g. humanity vs. the Slayers who are trying to protect them) mirrors Adam's methods in season 4 as well.

I guess the mask situation could be explained like Lindsey's tattoos, maybe his suit is what gives him the bulk of his power through magic, and if not covered by it he is more vulnerable.

Where did it ever say someone would betray Buffy to Twilight?

In "Anywhere But Here." Buffy is shown a vision of herself bloody and crying on the ground and told she will suffer "the closest and most unexpected" betrayal. It doesn't specifically say she'll be betrayed to Twilight, but... who else?

(Unless my suspicion turns out to be correct that Twilight isn't the true threat to Buffy this season.)

Well from the top of my head, Willow choosing to save Kennedy's life over Buffy's? Giles choosing to save Faith's over Buffy's? Angel showing up and being on the opposite side to her?

And it's been obvious for ages that the true big bad this season is Buffy herself, i've said from the start that she'll betray herself, and i still say that's what'll happen

Isn't she doing that already with the bank robbing and distancing herself from her friends and family? Nothing short of killing the humans she was called to serve would be the ultimate betrayal and I really really doubt that Buffy will go all rogue slayer on this.

Although it would make for interesting reading and Angel coming at the stage would make perfect sense...hmmm.

Maybe not killing them herself, but she's already willing to let them die for the greater cause

I think a lot of people are playing up the "Buffy's slide into darkness" way too much this season.

She is still fighting evil. She's not killing people, even in some cases when she would be justified in doing so. Her supposed "Slayers are the law, Slayers are better than other people" attitude just isn't coming through to me. I think she has a perfectly realistic attitude toward the Slayers' place in the world, and, if anything, she's being too timid and restrained in her responses.

The "Buffy is losing the mission" narrative is all a matter of Twilight's manipulation, I think.. The worst thing she's done this season is robbing banks to get money -- all of it insured -- which makes her about as evil as Ocean's 11.

Her view is distorted right now because of her sense of isolation and disconnectedness, and she's pushed away all attempts to help her with that. I think she's on her way to feeling completely lost, and she might make mistakes because of that, but I don't see Buffy turning into a villain. It might seem like the situation is growing ripe for Buffy to decide "they're going to treat us like terrorists? Then maybe we should be terrorists," but so far her reaction seems to be going in the opposite direction.

I can't remember if they actualy died or whether she was just gonna let them die but i'm talking about the ones that Fray saved. Buffy wanted to use them as bait but Fray was disgusted that she'd sacrifice them so she saved them. i think it was the second issue

I'll have to re-read that this evening after I get home from work.

Can't be the Xander of Season Eight's time. He could be from the future.

That's a good point. With the introduction of time lines and time travel it could be anyone, just from the future. The only thing that is is set in my eyes are that he's male.

Ful.

One more thing about the Adam/Twilight theory...
At the end of ToYL we see that Riley has the Twilight symbol carved into his chest. In season 4, Adam controlled Riley by a device implanted in his chest.
