That's possible. Xander has been taking one kick to the gut after another (losing his eye, Anya, Renee) and doesn't seem to be showing much reaction. He's holding a lot inside, and that can't be healthy.
He's been saying, going all the way back to season 6, how much he misses having male friends around to talk to. Now the two best male friends he's had... Riley and Oz... are both back, and probably on opposite sides of the Buffy issue. I feel sure that Twilight will try to use Riley to get at Xander and turn him.
If it's Xander, then hopefully he'll get an opportunity to redeem himself, and hopefully that won't require his death.
Scott Allie said the complexity of Xander's character story will be a close second to Buffy's this season. Since he hasn't done much of anything in the first half of the season, we can bet the second half will be a big one for him.
Also, Xander is the closest character to Buffy right now, he is her only real confidante and his betrayal would be the most painful of blows...cue Angel.
To be honest I think it makes most sense for it to be Xander and even if we are right it would still have huge emotional impact becuase it is Xander!

It's really, really going to hurt Buffy, and us, if it's Xander.

If it is him, it would really take this season to a whole other level for me...it would finally have the emotional impact that is the hallmark of Buffy.
Buffy would have struggled to come to terms with this at the best of times never mind when her hold on herself and her job are so tenuous.

Oh, I have a feeling we're going to get as much "emotional impact" as we care to deal with this season.

Which is a very limited and limiting philosophy, IMO... pain is only entertaining if it's relieved eventually... but Joss will be as Joss will be.
There has to be some respite eventually, I think it would mar the tale if Buffy didn't attain some reward for all that she has sacrificed...that's what I hope anyway.

Howdy. Just wondering, has an issue number been confirmed, for the reveal of Twilight. Or is it a case of wait and see.? I don't really like the comics, but I do like the Twilight stuff.

We haven't been told for certain, but issue #25 seems very likely.
We're told that #26 starts the real emotional heart of the season, but I think Joss realizes you can't give people a solid year and a half of angst and pain without sheer fatigue setting in... so I'm sure there will have to be some humor and light moments in there as well.
Is there any talk on issue 25 anywhere? Won't that be an issue of Giles and faith's new arc or is 24 a stand alone?

#24 is Giles and Faith. #25 ("Living Doll") deals with Dawn, her third transformation, and the story behind her situation.
Then there's a month break during which we'll get a "Tales of the Vampires" standalone about the Slayers/Vampires situation in season 8, and then in July the Oz arc starts and we're off to the races.
26-30 is Jane Espenson, 31-35 is Brad Meltzer, and then Joss was supposed to write the final arc, but it's up in the air whether he'll have the time or not, but we're told it's pretty certain he will write something more before the season is over. Also, it's not decided whether these arcs will be 4 or 5 issues long. If they're 4 then the season will probably end up being less than 40 issues.

No, i always thought Xander saw him as just another ahole guy who would end up hurting Buffy
Xander never appeared to harbour any bad feelings towards Riley. He was always open and friendly to him. When Xander didn't like Buffy's boyfriends he didn't keep that fact a secret as Angel and Spike (although he wasn't her boyfriend) can atest.

Xander actually admired Riley in fact, which is why I can see Twilight using that as a way to cause trouble.
