Wood was obviously obsessed with the idea of avenging his mother's death (Maybe that made him the Black Avenger, but I digress...) which is understandable, even if, as Buffy pointed out, he was seeking vengeance on someone who isn't even there anymore, at least metaphorically speaking. I would have been more sympathetic to him if he had been honest about the whole thing, confronting Spike at some time when they could be alone to thrash out their differences. It isn't as much his obsession that I object to as it the way he went about it, recruiting Giles to help him, as though Spike would need her protection. He should have invited Spike back to the "Thunderdome" construction site, invited Buffy and all the Potentials along, and let Andrew serve popcorn and soft drinks. Spike wasn't ever in any real danger, except for his flashbacks, and the girls could have used a little entertainment and a good laugh or two. I mean, really, now, a normal human, armed with nothing more lethal than a few strips of metal on his hands, against someone who had killed two Slayers and was a fair match for a third? Buffy was supposed to be seriously worried about that? The only reason that she ran back to Wood's garage was to try and stop Spike from twisting his head off. It would have been poor for the morale of the group. I never bothered to root for Spike, because I was too busy laughing at Wood's antics.
