It's so devastatingly sad but also really hopeful at the same time. It is quite smutty, so if that's not your thing then I'd say skip it.

Try some of Anaross' fics.

Stay is the angstiest fic I can think of, but doesn't really do the happy ending thing.

My Life Closed Twice is another excellent read - lots of angst in this one too.

Anaross' fics are at the Just Rewards fanfiction archive.

You've mentioned one of Herself's fics... have you read her Bittersweets series? It's a rocky, angsty ride but worth it in the end, I think.

Hmm... there's a good one by Kantayra called Worth a Thousand Words - that's at Elysian Fields.

Brave New World by JamesMFan has some angsty moments but the angst doesn't overshadow anything else... but it's also one of the few fics to make me cry (both times I read it. Not entirely sure why, but it did, lol). This one's at Bloodshedverse and The Spuffy Realm.

Seven Days by Twilightchild is bittersweet - just the right amount of angst. At Elysian Fields.

Have you read Unbridled Brunette's Forward to Time Past?

The Writing on the Wall by Holly. I'm not sure I'd classify this as angst but I suppose from Spike's perspective it would be...

I read Stay by Anaross last night from Xaph's rec list, and omg. It was so great! Sobbing into my pillow over how tragic it was. The characterization is spot-on.

I seriously need to start reading more Spuffy fanfics because I hear so many positives about them! 😀 I think now's a good time to start, especially after everything that's been going on lately. Does anyone recommend a good one that's not too tragic or angst? I'll definitely read those types later on, but I think I need to read a feel-good one now, lol.

There are great comedic fics by Nautibitz; my fave is "All Over It". You may also enjoy a recent story "Marriage of Convenience" by Shapinglight.

I'm reading "Normal is Just a Word" by slaymesoftly. It's good. It takes place around the events of "Normal Again", and explores where Buffy "went" when she was in "Heaven." I can't say more or it would be spoilery. 🙂

I've been reading Long Day's Journey by Anaross and I am LOVING it! I think the character voices, especially for Buffy, are perfect! I finished My Life Closed Twice (also by Anaross) yesterday and I strongly recommend that one too!

I think I might be addicted to post-series Spuffy fic...😀

I think Long Day's Journey might be my favourite Spuffy fic. Which is saying something because it's a sloooow burn Spuffy fic.

But I love getting to see all the other character thoughts about Spike, and the fact that Spike has such a strong voice in the fic despite not one of the chapters being from his PoV. I think I'm due for a re-read, lol.

My Life Closed Twice is another wonderful fic but I have to be in the right kind of mood to read it because it's so intense.

I just finished Long Day's Journey (which is pretty long itself, lol), and I loved it. What I find really interesting is that it's as much a character study of Angel, Buffy, and the rest as it is a Spuffy fic. It's very, very thought-provoking. Definitely worth reading. And I agree that even though it's such a slow burn fic, it's worth it! 😀

Seriously, I am blown away by this story. She nails Spike and Buffy's dynamic in S8 perfectly. The dialouge flows really well, and she clearly knows these characters inside and out.
