Stephanie Meyer - Was Twilight Plagerism??!!

Aha. Well, all I can say (as others have) is that if people/topics are annoying/offending you, just stay away from those people/topics. *shrug* Or if you must read them, take a deep breath and resist the urge to start a flame war. That's what I do.
Which brings us back to 'why should a member stay away from a topic they are interested in?'

^ Didn't say "should." It's each individual's decision. Just some advice. You can't control what anyone else does, only what you do. So if someone wants to not get upset over what someone else is doing, they should avoid that person. I guess that's the libertarian in me.

Okay, guys. Let's all play nicely. Also, you might do well to stay on topic. This thread is about the rumor of plagiarism. This thread is not about whether or not you like the Twilight series. It's also not about being disrespectful toward your fellow members or calling for the banning of subjects that you don't like. Please stay on topic and please be respectful of your fellow members.

People have told me I am stupid for liking Buffy. And it is all people who have never watched the series aside from prehaps one or two eps in season one. Im not personally offended by it, and while I have read the Twilight books and seen the movie Im not offended by those who hate it. Alot of the things they say about the writing and so on is true in my opinion, yet I couldnt put the books down. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, it might be different to what you think but they are still allowed to say what they want. And again people have said I am 'immature' and 'uneducated' for being a Bangel, I dont let it get to me. Its fiction, its not real and it isnt really an insult to your intelligence. To me I have seen alot of the Twilight hatred as not an insult to personal members but an insult to Stephanie Meyer. Maybe I process things different to other people, I dont know. It is sad that members have taken personal insult from what has been said, but I dont think that is a reason to ban discussion of it. Its not like someone has called you personally a 'slut' or anything else that I would take offence to in the 'real world'.

The original Twilight thread wasnt a bashing was it? I cant really rememeber that far back. It was a bunch of people sharing their opinion on it, which is what a discussion board is for.

WOW. I see how it is... Ok, then. I guess I have no choice but to stay out of the Twilight threads, since it's not going to be anything but people bashing it, and I don't agree with that. So. Back on topic.
It wasn't plagiarized; it was all Stephenie Myer's idea, and she is not going to be sued. Sorry for those of you who wish she were.

Welcome to my world - I will PM you in a bit, after I have eaten some tasty chicken!
Or.. we could just discuss topics without actually bashing members. Cause then that would solve a few problems. You're never gonna get rid of heated topics. Then, this place wouldn't be fun.

Yes I AM personally offended. How would you feel if you said "I really like Buffy" and a LOT of people on a posting board started talking about how much they hate it and how unoriginal it is and how stupid the characters are and then someone said (AS MESKETET RA DID) "If you like Buffy I have to question your intelligence" and then other members started agreeing with that statement? I think anyone would get a little miffed over that.
Just because you happen to dislike something because it's not your idea of what's right and wrong or good in literature/film/pop culture/life does NOT give you the right to make other people feel that if they like it, something's wrong with them. And anytime Twilight gets brought up on these boards, that is what happens, no matter what direction the thread starts out in. This thread started as a mention of the fact that someone was supposedly suing Stephenie Myer for plagiarism (which is completely false, by the way, and should have been checked out before the thread was posted), and suddenly the thread becomes all about "mindless drivel" and how ignorant and unoriginal the series is. Which, by the way couldn't be farther from the truth. There is nothing else out there like Twilight, which is why I love it so much. Regardless of whether you like something or not, you should still respect the opinions of other members. I disagree with the Twilight haters, but I would never insult someone's intelligence just because they don't agree with me, or constantly rub my opinion in their face to try to make them feel bad for not agreeing with me, and that is what is going on here, and I'm not the only person who feels this way; I'm simply one of the few who has the balls to step up and say something about it.
I know I can't stop posts like this, but I feel that as part of the job, the moderators should. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. And it doesn't make me WRONG if you don't agree with me, so stop acting like it does. I've had a few people on this board I consider my friends post this suggestion, and that stings, but whatever. If you don't agree with me, that is fine, but it's not OK for you to disrespect me and other people like me. That is what I'm saying. And because there ARE other members who are just as offended but too shy to say anything about it, that's why I feel Twilight should be banned from being debated/discussed here, 'cause some people don't know how to show the proper respect/professionalism when doing so.

Alrighty there, hun. Slow down.

First things first: I NEVER SAID(in my memory) that anyone was stupid for liking Twilight. I said I PERSONALLY disliked the series, find it banal, and think it's crap. This, honestly, really shouldn't concern you. It is simply my opinion. You can tell me that characters and series I love suck if you'd like - but I can promise you I will not get personally offended.

Just because you happen to dislike something because it's not your idea of what's right and wrong or good in literature/film/pop culture/life does NOT give you the right to make other people feel that if they like it, something's wrong with them.

I completely agree with this comment, as I'm sure many others on here do. Again, agreeing with BB - can you give us an exact quote to when this was said? As I said, saying something is banal, crappy, drival, etc does not mean the person reading it is "wrong" or stupid, etc. It's just a criticism of the work.

And secondly, everyone is entitled their own opinion. If someone told me they didn't care for Buffy (people often do) I do not get personally offended, because frankly - I have enough conviction and confidence in my own tastes to not let it bother me. I don't want to sound rude, but you have to realise that people are going to bash things you like all throughout your life, and you just have to deal with it. It's not worth getting personally offended over. I'm sorry.

Thirdly,

This thread started as a mention of the fact that someone was supposedly suing Stephenie Myer for plagiarism (which is completely false, by the way, and should have been checked out before the thread was posted), and suddenly the thread becomes all about "mindless drivel" and how ignorant and unoriginal the series is. Which, by the way couldn't be farther from the truth. There is nothing else out there like Twilight, which is why I love it so much.

I was the one who started this thread, and again, I merely thought it might be an interesting thing to discuss. I thought it lead to a more thoughtful conversation about plagerism in general. And as I mentioned earlier, after Looking Glass posted, I agreed due to what SM said that it was indeed a rumor. And yes, thank you, I probobly should have researched it more extensively in a perfect world - but hey, I'm at work, and I didn't really have time. And plus, I don't really care.

And yet again, I do not think it is "wrong" that you enjoy Twilight. Please stop putting words in my mouth. I simply stated my opinion on the series.

"Show the proper respect and professonalism"? Huh? I'm sorry you're so offended, I really am. I'm really sorry our opinions have had such an effect on you. In theory, if you love something, it shouldn't matter to you if other people approve of it, would you agree?

Okay guys, palabravampiress has already had to post a warning asking everyone to stay on topic and play nice. The topic was about possible plagiarism in a popular book series and obviously that is not being discussed anymore.

Since her post was ignored, I'm ending the arguments now and closing the thread.
