Stranger Things

Kool! 🙂 It'd be neat if we could get a group of rewatchers & 1st time watchers. 🙂
 
Am half way through it now. Still really gripped by it. The thing is the stuff in the lab and some of alien stuff feels a bit clunky and doesn't grab me like the minute by minute drama and character moments do. And Shawn Levy is not the best director when working outside of comedy. Still I am hooked because of the characters and overall story. Some nice performances also. The girl playing Nancy especially I find impressive.
 
Watched the first ep last night. It has me intrigued. So far so good.
 
Finished episode 2, so far this is definitely great. Not surprised since I've yet to be disappointed by Netflix, but this is definitely a little gem. They are nailing the sci-fi mixed with horror. So far the suspense is great, characters are well developed after only 2 eps, so I hope it doesn't go downhill. The kid actors are also decent, with little Eleven being my fav so far.

The show actually managed to get me on edge a few times, probably because while watching this, at 2 am, after a few beers, I had a light go out on me lol.
 
Finished it last night. Was very pleased with the concluding parts. Lots of good drama, some charming character moments and lots of supense. The 1980s design and Sci-Fi references were top notch too.

As for a second season? It would have to a different story really. Don't see what else they can do with this one. Guess they will take the original characters and give them a different story on a simliar theme maybe.

^Yeah that! Was actually hoping that it would be more of an anthology. However, if the writing is consistently as good next season, then maybe they can make it work. 🙂
 
Getting a view is problematic, apparently what is on my computer does not support the software that Stranger Things is on.
Guess I'll have to wait until a DVD is released.
 
There were certain things left open in the finale (though I won't give anything away😉). It did feel pretty complete to me. So much of the joy of the show comes from the characters. It is from them where I think it can expand itself. If it does go a number of seasons then I think it would be fun watching how they grow up etc...

Think I like the mini-series format too. Think they might over extend themselves if they go for much longer than 8 episodes at a time. The format does justice to Sci-Fi throw back element of the show.
 
I finished this yesterday and had a great time watching it. I think the advert is a little spoilery and I am glad I went into it with no idea other than winona.

Is it based on a book? It flowed like a good novel to me, and I love those kinds of shows (eyes too blurry to read atm). It is a very good one to binge, as I think it lost momentum when I stopped. I was completely dragged into their world whilst watching. It felt genuinely 80's too, I adore the cast. I really think the boys did the best job of the lot. The 3 nailed the friendship, to the point even Will felt out of place at times.

I dont see how, nor would want, there to be a second season to this story. But a new story and cast would be something I would watch for sure, after the fun I had with s1.

Great review. I totally agree on your description of it as like a novel. It has that kind of pacing and character depth.

I'd also include the actress playing Nancy as the pick of the young cast. Thought she was fantastic also. The older cast was a bit more hit and miss for me, but thats fine as its a show more about the teenagers/kids.

See I thought apart from one or two things which were lefted open than it did have the feel of a complete story by the end. I would like to see the same cast and characters because its a big part of what has sold me on the whole thing, but maybe have a different central plot.
 
Just finished. Really enjoyed it, though I did think it flagged just slightly in the middle. The kids were all great. I thought there were several strands still left to explore, so I think they may use the same characters in S2 and continue the story.

Yeah I thought the middle was the weakest part. Wasn't so keen on the episodes which Levy directed. He is used to directing comedy afterall.
