Tara's best & worst outfits

Does anyone think Willow takes on the dress sense of the people she's with. When with Oz she wore band/music related clothing, a little bit cutsie. When she's with Tara, she goes for the long skirts and when she's with Kennedy she wears more trousers and more mature outfits?

I think as a rule, they dressed like granola girls... very newagey and boring, almost asexual, and I've known lesbians who dressed like that, so it's probably kinda right. I liked Tara's song dress, but I thought the one Willow wore was dowdy as all get out. Love the hot girls outfits in the back of the food truck.

I don’t see what’s wrong with dressing that way. I love to dress for my own creativity and experiment with my self expression rather than aiming to be attractive to the objectifying gaze. I love to see other women do the same as well.

I found the hot girls outfit quite basic meanwhile many of their actual outfits felt experimental and creative…

Another vote for the ice cream truck in Restless as the only place where Tara was allowed to look good. In other places, they deliberately made her more dowdy than necessary. Also, in Once More with Feeling where Tara and Anya were dancing as the backdrop to Buffy, Tara was deliberately made to look wide, much wider than Anya. They definitely did not want Tara to look good in anything other than a fantasy episode.

It seemed like that was an ongoing issue. Like they didn't know how to dress a woman who had a more fuller figure.

Hard disagree! Now I'll have to spend some of my precious time on coming up with examples here to challenge that notion!

Her style evolved with her character. In S4, she was a shy (and previously emotionally abused) girl experimenting with her style in the first free chapter of her life where she was building a life for herself. In S5 her style leaned into a more bohemian earth witch look. In S6 as she matured more, her wardrobe started to include more trousers, low-neck shirts and lace but she kept the bohemian look still. It also makes sense for her character that she doesn't look the sexiest or whatever all the time. She is more of an introvert with much higher emotional intelligence than those around her and she is more of an observer and a responsible, caring friend than the spotlight-grabbing actor in her circles. She is the no-drama, cozy friend. Her style reflects that.

With her style, costume designers did a higher number of bad jobs than good jobs that much I agree, but Restless episode was totally far from being the only episode she looked good. Also, her look in Xander's dream in Restless was totally not her and instead Xander's sexy girl fantasy. I'll take her patterned shirts any day of the week over that look, at least it's her. :s

P.S. : By the way, if I were to dress Tara, I would keep her style and its evolution but would lean more on the examples I'm gonna provide next.
