Spin-off News! News about 'Ripper', from Joss himself! Also 'Buffy: Animated' News!

Joss revealed that he planned to take a short break over the summer, and that many of his projects will be on the backburner.
"Apart from 'Angel', no spin-off is in the works right now," said Joss. "I think it's a ver likely possibility, but there isn't anything happened right now. WE all just kind of want to bask and relax."
"Quizzed about the status of the 'Ripper' series, Joss revealed that he had come to a conclusion that he wants to do the pilot, "not as a set-up so much as a story about Giles. I realize that, like 'Angel', you can use it as a premise; perhaps, to build something about ghost stories, and that would be fine. What I'm interested in is the character that Tony plays, not some mystery he might solve. And that's a sort of paradigm shift in what I might do with it. But I'm still very invested in the Ripper story."
As for the animated show, "I still like the idea," Joss added. "We still have a bunch of really good scripts. But I won't do it at a price. That's a show that has to look wonderful. It has to be as good as it can be. And a lot of animation houses just can't contain that. The money isn't there right now. So right now, I'm not planning on it."

A Faith or Dawn spinoff is in the cards for me. But the cards are leaning farther towards Dawn.

charmedbuffyuk- I vote for charmed! Sorry Buffy fans. But I LOVE Charmed waaaay more than Buffy. I am obsessed. But still a Buffy fan.

i like the Angelique's idea for an spin-off. But i think Giles is not gonna be a star, but a guest star. that would be a Willow spin-off. And i'm still thinking about Kennedy - don't like her too much - i loved Tara 🙂
And the idea of having Andrew, i love it. I think that character was great the last season 😀

All ideas here so far sound excellent (even "ANDREW: THE DEMON SUMMONER", while far-fetched, sounds cool. 😛 ).
But, why not something out of left field, as was mentioned earlier in this thread?
I think a a miniseries, while not a DIRECT spinoff of the BTVS series, might be able to work.
There was a comic book recently about a slayer many years in the future...the name I believe was "FRAY".
I think something based on this comic book, whether it be a one-shot TV/cable movie, or the aforementioned mini-series, would be interesting to see.

I think they should have a a spinoff where Xander, Giles, and Andrew lead theyre own 'scooby gang'. We could have 1 or 2 new characters or old characters like Brian (angel season 1) any1 remember him? he was the Buffy/Angel universe version of Bill Gates except really nice and shy. anyway them 3 plus 2 new characters. the could live in Ohio like said earlier and fight demons. Major difference in this series though.....the citizens are less oblivious to demons and Vampires and actually defend themselves.
The idea of Giles leadeding a new wtchers council woudlnt work for 2 reasons.
1. Joss Whedon had it blown up because it was dramatic and he wanted the watchers council gone.
2. It would be too much like Angel with the Main Chracaters leading a big corperation.
My idea won't work for plenty of reasons too.

You guys have some good ideas for a spinoff..
I do hope there is a spin, and I would love to see Faith in it.. But considering that she has her own show, and that most all of the other cast members want to move on, I am thinking that a spin with no Buffy/Angel cast members is the biggest possibility.
Maybe there could be Guest appearances and Angel crossovers (provided they are on the same network.) I think it would be cool to focus on one new slayer.. (Not a potential because I found most all of them to immature and annoying) but maybe a 18-21 slayer who is Faith looking but Buffy minded, minus the preppy Cali girl attitude Buffy had to grow out of.
Of course there would be a Scoobie gang of friends who help her. Maybe She would search out Buffy to learn about the slayer "gig" and that would leave opportunities for guest appearances from all the major cast members as she searches for answers.. I think that scenario would also give good closure since we could all see what everyone is doing post Sunnydale. Maybe Willow and Giles in London with a few potentials.. Faith and Wood somewhere in small town USA training new potentials, Buffy and Dawn living a "normal life" somewhere else.. Xander in Sunnydale running a big construction co, helping to rebuild lol, etc, etc... that way we could see everyone, but no one would have to do more than a few guest spots.

That's a cool idea but, I don't think some people would warm to them quite so much, I know that I would like a spin-off so I could see some of the Buffy/Angel characters in the roles I know them as again - for however long they would be willing to continue. And having somebody knew wouldn't cut it for me - maybe if they were part of a supporting cast but having a new person as the lead would make it look too much like a copy - did that even make sense?
yeah makes sense, I was going more for making the people seem different enough, so no copy cat syndrom.. But yeah I know not everyone will got for it. Since when does Joss do what we want anyway?? lol.. I just think a spin like what I described will be more likely than a major cast member spin.. But you never know. I am still keeping my fingers crossed for a Faith spin..

They should make a spinoff with me as the Star. I could be a demon hunter or Watcher wannabe and my co stars could be Nicholas Brendon (Xander) and Alyson Hannigan (Willow). They could be my scooby gang and we could have 1 other cast member that we've never seen before. Or I guess I could settle for a co-role.
