Blimey lots of posts lol. Seems to have divided the boards here, I do believe she is worth the tat and I have no doudt we will be togther for a long time But thats not really what I asked.
I want to know from people who have had tats do they really hurt?

Lol ok. They dont hurt. After the initial shock(its like 1000 volt runnin through you)it gets better.

I don't want to be like that but you have gotten a few answers to that question even if there's been a lot of other discussions. But if you haven't noticed it I can make a summary. Some thinks it hurt a little (little not much), some compared it to being scratched by a cat for a long while, some said it's worse at the beginnning and gets better/easier after a while. And even if there's no guarantee that it'll feel the same for you people are saying that you shouldn't worry. The healing afterwards can be worse than the actual time of making the tattoo. If you need more people to convince you I can't say that I'm convinced that you should do it. Having 100 people say it shouldn't make a difference.
Most people I know that got tattoos have got addicted and want more. Not likely to happen is it if it was that bad now is it? 😉 No one of them are as I know fans of pain (as some people can be). And if you decide to go through with it but still nervous try to distract your thoughts/concentrate on something else while having it done. I'm sure you'll be just fine.Worrying about pain is normal but if you go through with it I'm sure you'll be one of those people that says "I wasn't bad".

I have 7 tattoos. They all hurt but it's a good kinda pain.. you getting something amazing out of that pain 🙂 And don't lol but pile cream (prepH) is the best for the first couple of days after as it reduces the swelling and irritation but everyone will give you different after care tips lol.

My grandparents met when they were very young. In high school I believe
They married young
They've now been together for somewhere between 36 and 38 years. I don't quite recall.
But as I say - yeah - it's really nice. Having my grandparents together like that 🙂 And I can see how much they love each other, still.
So there ya go, from me to you. A happy marrige story 🙂

On the hurting, it's already been said that it depends, and some people like it some people don't, etc, etc. I'd want to add that it also really depends on where you gonna do it. Obviously, sensitive places (like wrists, or anywhere on the inside of your arm) hurt more. But also places where there's very little fat between the skin and the bones, like feet and chest (although that depends on your build, and gender, I guess.) I have both my tattoos on rather sensitive places (under my collarbones and on the soft bit just under the inside of my elbow) and I must say, it was more than just a sting. I don't mind, in fact, during the second one I almost fell asleep, but if you're really, really, really afraid of the pain, you might want to consider a softer spot than the chest (or gain some weight 😉) Although it has also something incredibly romantic to go through the pain to show her how much you love her.
I dont have a tatt, I keep making designs and telling myself if I still like them in 3 months then I will get it done. Every single time I didnt like the design after 3 months so I cant imagine having it for the rest of my life. I do want to get branded though, the design for that I have liked since I thought (or rather drempt) it up. Now I just have to get the money together for that 😛
Anyway on the pain thing, my mate and her boyfriend got matching tattoos when they went overseas. My mate said it didnt really hurt, it was more of an uncomfortable feeling, like someone scratching you with a fingernail in the same spot over and over, but her boyfriend all but passed out from the pain! They had to stop a few times and give him water until his colour returned. She thought that was hilarious, as did we, I dont think he is ever guna live it down! Also from what my friends say, it hurts more if it is on a bony spot rather than a fleshy one (I could have that backwards though). Goodluck, Im sure you will make the best choice for you.

It does hurt more on bone than flesh (I watch a lot of tattoo shows...and will be getting my second in a couple of weeks 😀) but like Nix and a few other people have said...if it's what you really want, it's so worth whatever pain you go though.

A friend of mine got his first tat recently, it was a nice idea....but involved a lot of straight thin lines, and in the end, it didn't look as good as it should have and he had to go to someone different to get the design changed a little....oh, and being the big strapping lad he is....he passed out from the pain as well and will never hear the end of that! 😛

Oh yeah, that's really, really important. If you got your eye on a place, google it. Try to find people who have had good experiences with the place, or bad. Scan tattoo forums. If they don't have a website and you can't really find anything on forums and stuff, it's almost in definition a bad place. Next to the research on the interwebz, pay close attention when you go there to make an appointment. Do they have rubber gloves, needles or needle packages etc just lying around, be wary. A bad, unhygienic tattoo guy (or gal) can do a lot more damage then just giving you a crappy tattoo.
Not that I want to scare you. Most shops today are subject to very strict rules and regulations. And a big majority knows what they are doing art-wise. It's just, you don't want to end up with a wonky heart and a spelling mistake in your fiancée's name and a nasty infection. That's not very romantic.
Also, don't forget, if you have a latex allergy, to tell them when you make the appointment. And don't drink 24h before you're getting it done. Alcohol makes your veins and arteries widen and hence the risk of some serious bleeding.

I've had one done on my foot, I've got what one would call a "tramp stamp", and I've got one on my arm. The tat on my foot did smart a bit, but nothing that brought me to tears. I don't think it's something to worry yourself about too much. No point in psyching yourself out. You'll be fine, but DO make sure that the place is hygenic! Make sure you see them take the needle out of the packaging and that the soap they use for wiping it off is antibacterial. 😉

I have one on my wrist and it didn't hurt at first I was watching the tattoist do it and it was all fine until I noticed that he was no longer just wiping away ink but blood as well...that's when I started thinking it hurt.
My advice just don't look at what they're doing and it will be fine...although your's will be on your chest so I guess you can't really see that lol. When you have got it done do tell us if it was painful. I'm planning on getting a D10 (a 10 sided dice) tattooed on my chest soon, would like to know if it hurts.
Also, my dad got a tatoo of his wife's name tattooed on his arm. They broke up and he just got it tattoed over. It's pretty simple really.

I have to say out of the 7 I have the one on my tummy hurt the most. Ihave then over different areas on my back, my ankle, my wrist and my arm. The pain is different for everyone. They hurt me but my bloke said it was just a tickle so you might find it does not hurt you at all.
