This has got to be too young, surely? 13 year old Dad

I agree with Al and Kean.

Also, I wonder if this article is true. I mean, it is from the Sun.

I never understand why people are surprised when young teens get pregnant. I mean, do we adults not remember puberty? At that age, you're a walking bundle of hormones. Your body is practically screaming at you to go have sex because, over the span of human history, that's the age at which people were supposed to procreate. I couldn't even look at a boy back then without salivating. I am ashamed to admit it, but my assessment of a boy didn't go very far beyond, "Ooooh. He's cute." Cuteness, by the way, was a quality judged by how far he had advanced down the road to adulthood. My mom about freaked out when, at 13, I brought my first boyfriend home and he (at 14) had "peach fuzz" above his lip. To a little, 13-year-old Palabra, boys were good for kissing and that was pretty much it. It took me a long time to learn to see the person underneath the "cuteness." The only reasons for which I refrained from having sex until I was older were: 1.) My parents and my sex ed classes were very clear and I was levelheaded enough not to want to take the risk and 2.) In my friends and other peers, I had plenty examples of teen pregnancy and STDs and I certainly did not desire that outcome. I do remember what it was like to be that age and, while the consequences are sometimes undesirable, it is perfectly normal and natural for teenagers -- even very young teenagers -- to want to have sex and to act on those impulses.

That said, I don't think it's a good idea to have sex at that age. It is certainly easier to deal with the potential consequences later on in life when you can think more practically and see beyond "what if I get into trouble with Mom and Dad?" But I don't think life stops at pregnancy, either. With support from their parents and government assistance, these kids will eek out lives for themselves and for their child that will probably end up pretty average after a rocky start. I don't think teen pregnancy is good, but I don't think it's a tragedy, either. I think it's a natural part of human existence.

Like this story is gross. It's making me sick. They are like 3. The mom is so ugly with her gross greasy hair and the dad doesn't even look like he is able to produce like fertilization to have a damn kid. So sick. Why weren't people watching these kids? THIRTEEN? 🙁

What does it matter what they look like? We're talking about age.

I don't really think it is fair or appropriate to comment on their physical attractiveness, as it has no bearing on their respective ages.
Oh my god...I just....I don't really have words to express what I think here. I mean he's just a child, they both are, but when you look at the picture of that boy- he looks just that; a boy. I mean sometimes you can come across young teenagers who are older headed or look older but this boy looks...like a child! Which seems to make the story even worse because it's such a striking visual.

I can't believe this. How can the boy have even had sex at 13? At 13 I had only just started to be interested in boys never mind thinking about sex. I feel more sorry for the baby involved. Those two children have made their choice and decided to make this, in my opinion, stupid stupid ignorant decision but the baby hasn't asked for this, didn't ask for this situation. I mean what can they really offer that little girl? A stable environment? I doubt it. Money support? Again I'm doubting it. Parents who are in fact well, parents? Again, I lean towards no.

Be aware that this is all personal opinion, but I just think this is a path of badness for all three and it's just not right. This isn't the middle ages where people died in their twenties on average and so had to get an early start on things so-to-speak, humans and society have evolved and so something so..."off" as this is just...wrong. For all involved, but especially for the baby who didn't even have a say.

Oh my god, that boy looks younger than 13! If someone pointed him out to me in the street I'd think he was about 10 or so. Im just so baffled and shocked at this but it just shows what kind of world we live in especially for a young teenagers perspective. That boy looks petrified in those photos its written all over his face and as for the girl well I don't know what to say. I just hope that young baby is bought up in the best environment possible and has a stable up bringing.

On The Sun issue - IIRC it's perhaps entirely sensationalist, but its stories are generally pretty near the mark when it comes to truth. It's the News of the World that likes to make things up. I might be mistaken though.

Just to confirm, the story is true because not only has the Sun run with it, other newspapers that are not affiliated with it have, as well as TV News.

That's not always the best indicator of truth, to be honest, especially nowadays. But yes, it does give it another layer of credibility.

In truth, I feel horribly sorry for those kids, all three of them. Granted, I'm not sure what would possess a 14yo girl to look at a 12yo boy a second time, esp. one that looks 4 years younger than his age. Maybe because for me, you were looking at the older guys since anyone younger is still a kid. 😉 Also, granted, I had 8 younger siblings, 7 of which were brothers, so... I still have issues with thinking Skandar Keynes is cute because he's as old as my younger brother. 😛

That said, I do commend them for choosing to have the child. I do not agree with them keeping the child. Neither of them are responsible, and her parents don't seem, at least at first glance, to be that much better. I could very well be mistaken, and I would love to be. That said, I do not think it is a good environment for that kid to grow up in, and though I don't know anything about the adoption system in the British Isles (and this is from someone who isn't a big fan of the system in America and would do it here in a heartbeat 😛), I do think that the baby should be put up for adoption by people who are better off financially (and maturely 😛) to take care of her.

I do not, however, like how it reflects on our culture and I do believe that there is a great lack of maturity and responsibility in people those kids ages than there was back when it was the norm for 13, 14, 15 yo girls, etc. to get married. Not saying that I want to go back to having them get married that young, but I do think that maturity, responsibility and careful thinking about actions before they take them is not something that is often cultivated in this day and age. 😛

Now I'm starting to ramble. My sleep cycle's been weird. 😛

It doesn't surprise me that 13 year old's are having sex. But I do feel sorry for them as they probably didn't get the best sex ed, they now have a lot of responsibility to look after the kid.

I would've had sex at thirteen, the depressing thing is that this kid wasn't even aware that he should use a condom and his fifteen year old partner wasn't either. That's crazy.

you are all slackers.. went the whole thread and no one shown his picture.

That image is more powerful than words.. and this one is not far behind

There was no need to post the picture because to participate in the thread the article should have been read and in doing so you see the pictures.

If someone is too lazy to click a link its on them not us.

You berated people for not posting one.
I am sorry your ego is so fragile you think calling EVERYONE on the post a slacker is berating. I will be sure to handle you with kid gloves from here on out, EB so as not to offend you.

Guys, don't argue. Let's keep on topic.

I think this shows the UK (England) in a very bad light. Doesn't the UK have the highest teen pregnancy rate in Europe?
I had sex ed at school, they gave us loads of condoms, are these kids thick?

I was on topic spoons; he was the one that said there was no point in my post.

I think there is a point to every post.

My ego is pretty solid actually.
You scolded the people in this thread for not posting the picture because you had to then click the link.

The picture was not required in the link before your post but you needed it.

You don't offend me, you amuse me but you probably wouldn't like the reason why you amuse me.

GrrrRruff agrees: I was on topic spoons; he was the one that said there was no point in my post.
Actually I said there was no need to post the picture because it was on the article that should have been read.

If you need the picture then it is required in the thread BUT it wasn't needed in the discussion pre-your involvement.

You scolded the people in this thread for not posting the picture because you had to then click the link.

Clearly you have a problem with reading comprehension as I said

"you are all slackers.. went the whole thread and no one shown his picture."

"That image is more powerful than words.. and this one is not far behind"
picture 2

Explain to me why that could be construed as scolding anyone for making me click a link?

Okay, guys: let's stop bickering about the pictures and one another's egos. We're supposed to be bickering about teen pregnancy! Please stay on topic.
