This is for you

That sentence alone reinforces my initial assessment; you are being trite and vacuous. Yes, they live in Dark Africa, right? Those bloody primitives. It's not as if any of them serve international organizations like WHO and the UN, or live expatriated in other parts of the globe, or have telephones and internet connections (or hold medical doctorates, JDs or PhDs).

Poverty and primitivism do not equate.

You know 'ALOT' (sic) about the LHC? Obviously not enough not to be 'bored to tears'.

"Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it." -Niels Bohr

No it does not. We were discussing the peoples who live in absolute poverty. The fact YOU are putting 'primitives' into MY mouth suggests you had that thought until you met them.

The people I met there, I would never say they were primitive. They have a different life, a different world to what we have. They have to do things differently and live each day considerably different to how we do.

How DARE you make an assumption of borderline racism of me and make me seem to be some ignorant pratt when your comment shows exactly that about you.

As for the LHC, just because my hands don't rush between my legs when I read about it doesn't mean anything.
I have studied physics, find many things interesting about it, I just don't find the OVERKILL of information that has been given about this one part of it to be that interesting at the moment, especially as it has been dumbed down for the masses.

Hahahaha.

I use this as an escape from my life haha. It's not that my life is unbearable- I rather love it at the moment in fact, but everyone needs a break. Yes, Buffy-Boards is my KitKat.

Of course maybe I'd actually get some packing done if I stopped coming on here so often.....nyeh, who am I kidding? I still wouldn't get packing done. Haha.

And I'm counting the feathers you're slowly ruffling BotD- whether playfully or seriously, haha. It's rather entertaining to observe. 😉

Hi Joyce - *frantically waving*

It has been too long. How are you doing?

Me ruffling feathers, pah, thats not what I do, I think you have me mistaken for someone else.

EDIT:

Ohh and when the list gets more than 5 - PM me it. Theres a sweetheart😛

Hey, I'm doing pretty good- probably not been doing as wild a things as you in your time away in the real world, haha.

And oh yes, I'm sorry- I must be getting you completely mixed up with the other feather-ruffler. And how about making it so much easier and just PMing when it's in double digits? haha.

I must admit, my life has been thoroughly enjoyable of late.
I have done so many things and seen so many wonderful sights that I need a break.

I have taken a 2 week holiday from life and found myself on BB!!!

Seriously though, it is fun to be back.

As per the email, yes, double digits isn't that far away, in fact I think it might even be an idea to just email me who I don't piss off.

Thing is, as I have said before and will again - I am no one. I am a 'character' on a website forum. If you get pissed off with me, who is the one at fault? Me for saying something or you for adding any credence to my opinion?

Live long and prosper Joyce🙂

How DARE you make an assumption of borderline racism of me and make me seem to be some ignorant pratt

Any literate person can see that you are doing it to yourself. First you insult any person who does not live in your 'real world' and spends too much time on 'meaningless pursuits' instead of what you've decided matters, despite your own obvious insecurities about the matter (3,800 posts, for example). Then, when presented with an alternative to your version of the 'real world' you skew it, try to separate it from your own reality, as if it's wholly irrelevant (they don't live in our world). Which is borderline racist and ignorant. If that statement read like a 1920's colonial map, it was because that was how you worded it. Arguing differences in culture is a far cry from arguing that those cultures are on a different plane of existence.

"As if it's a parallel universe. As if there really is no relation between the massive accumulation of wealth in one part of the world and abject misery in another. That is the rational of developed nations. The world is full of miserable places. One way of living comfortably is to think of them as different worlds" Dr. Paul Farmer.

Seem to me I have hit a nerve in you.
I didn't use the term meaningless pursuits and I must make it clear, I don't think everyone who posts on this board don't have a life.

What I do think is that anyone who spends all their time online, away from the real world, those are the people who need to get a life, those are the ones that need to stop reading about the world and instead enter it.

As for the 'OUR world' comment I made - big fricking deal.

They are different to very extreme lengths. If you were viewing the 1st and 3rd World (ohh look some terminology I didn't make up) from a truly external POV you can see this. It isn't a matter of using this terminology to make one feel better and distant from it, it is about understanding the differences and locating what we can do to help them have a better life.

I have no insecurities of my post count. I admit I have in the past spent a fair bit of time online, but I more than make up for it with having a life away from the computer.
As I said, my comment was not made at everyone, it was aimed at those who spend all their time online - some of the Buffy Boarders that do that.

Hippie hippie hippie! (as long as it isn't days of our lives, I'm fine)

It will be the WORST episode of Days of our Lives - unless youre double bluffing me and you like Days of our Lives.

Ohh no, I won't fall for that. Nope, instead it will be THE worst episode of Emmerdale from the 1970s when an entire episode was filmed in one building.

See you on Hell!!!

That is why the 1st, 2nd and 3rd world terminology is no longer considered acceptable among diplomats and aid workers. We now more commonly (and appropriately) refer to the world in terms of development: developed, developing, undeveloped. Although admittedly semantic in its nature, this new terminology has the benefit of being more accurate, and of not allowing for a mental disconnect between perceived 'worlds'.

As for hitting a nerve, it was just my debate nerve.

MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like you Avatar of Truth.

As for the Developed, Developing and Undeveloped terminology - I was at a recent Conference and heard that being discussed and found it distasteful.

Where as 1st and 3rd world (2nd world doesn't actually have much in the way of use since the Cold War ended) actuvely encourages people to see the issues that these countries have and help to resolve them, calling a nation 'developing' or 'developed' immediately suggests that they need to be brought to our level of technology to be considered equal.

That is far from the case.

The intelligence possibilities of the peoples of the 3rd World equal our own, it is the resources that differ.

MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A ha - I am a genius. I can see through your thinly veiled attempts to manipulate me.

complimentary popcorn would have been nice

You really don't know me then.
If I was to give popcorn for every thread I act like this in, I would be bankrupt by tomorrow. VG can definitely back me up on that.
