Defender of Spuffy
But not alone. Buffy wouldn't have saved the world a lot if she were alone. In fact, if it weren't for Xander following her into the tunnel in The Harvest, Buffy would have been dead.
Buffy was able to go this far with team work, most of the plans and ideas to save the world weren't only hers -Xander was the one who figured out how to defeat The Judge, Anya was the one who suggested using Olaf's weapon on Glory, Xander and Anya thought about using the Buffybot to trick Glory, and so on.
I agree that Buffy couldn't have done it alone. The Scoobies definitely helped her, there's no doubt of that. I'm just saying that when it came down to that final blow, it was Buffy. She killed the Master, she killed Angel, she killed the Mayor, she killed Adam, and she sacrificed herself so Dawn and everyone else could live. They seemed to have forgotten that in s7, as Spike pointed out.
Buffy needs her friends and her friends need her. They can't be separated. Even Buffy getting the scythe was because The First and Caleb were busy laughing at Faith falling for their trap, so Buffy was able to slip inside unnoticed.
By the end, I think they all came to that realization, even Buffy. I think that's why Buffy asked Willow to use her magic and allow Buffy to share the slayer power from the scythe with the potentials.
The fact that Buffy and her friends hadn't discussed what happened in Empty Places is epic fail and one of the many reasons why I hate S7. The Scoobies fought in S4, but we saw them discuss it and make amends "“we didn't see that in S7 because by that time the Scoobies didn't matter to the writers.
I disagree. First, the situation in s7 was totally different than in s4. The battle with the First was one of Buffy's toughest battles to date, with a good chance that she and the others wouldn't succeed and the world would end. Did Buffy have time to hear from everyone how sorry they were when they were at the brink of an apocalypse? Doubtful. There were bigger things happening. Even if she did, Buffy was at that point where action spoke louder than words. The fact that the Scoobies accepted her back showed that they were willing to move on. They have been through so much that I think they just came to an understanding that it's all in the past and they had bigger things to worry about. No words were necessary.
Second, how can you say that the Scoobies didn't matter to the writers? One of my favorite scenes in Chosen was the core four's little conversation about what they wanted to do after they saved the world. It was a nice little way of showing that it all began with them, and that this was just another day at the office. And when they all walked down the hallway together, and then each individually parting, it was just a great symbolic way of showing how far they have come together, but also how each contributed to the group in their own way.
