Spin the Bottle>>>Tabula Rasa.
Totally. I think Spin the Bottle handled the characters' memory loss and subsequent amnesiac personalities a lot more realistically (if that's the right word) than Tabula Rasa did. Take the treatment of the vampire characters for one example. Angel didn't remember he was a vampire, but he still obviously had a lust for blood. On the other hand, Spike, despite not even having a soul at the time, was acting like a white hat and never demonstrated any sort of
Other unpopular opinions (that I didn't include in my previous post on a thread like this):
Waiting in the Wings is a decent episode, but not a brilliant one. Same goes for A Hole In The World. These opinions are likely coloured by my dim views of Cangel and Fresley respectively.
You're Welcome isn't very good.
I saw Cangel coming from at least the beginning of AtS3, and I thought it could potentially work well until it actually happened. Then it just felt forced and weird.
Lindsay's entire arc in the final season of Angel sucks.
I didn't like the way Fred drove a wedge between Wes and Gunn.
I prefer Illyria to Fred as a character.
Buffy is my favourite character in the series, except for some parts of S6 and most of S7.
Spike's integration into the cast in S4 felt extremely forced to me. It was obvious that he was just there because he was popular and funny (they did do more with him later, but for just about all of S4 that's the impression I got). And that's coming from someone who
likes him.
I sometimes get annoyed by how poorly defined the capabilities and properties of magic are in the Buffyverse. In particular, the frequent existence of spells that give the caster insane levels of power (like the spell in "Something Blue", if Willow had known how to actually use it). In my opinion, their existence is not compatible with the close-to-reality existence of the Buffyverse. (Obviously it's not close to reality in that there are vampires, demons, etc., but I'm referring to the way that the world is - or was prior to S8 - basically our world plus the secret existence of those things, to the point that many people in the Buffyverse don't even know about the supernatural) If these things are just lying around in spellbooks for anyone to use, they should be getting used
all the time. The world should be ruled by magic-users who have made themselves perfect at everything ("Superstar"), or can make things come true by saying them ("Something Blue"), or can simply warp reality to their desires and control people's minds with the wave of a hand ("Smashed").
