Unpopular Rants, Opinions and Confessions II

The mention of Faith has actually made me realise how much I hate the Buffy = good Slayer, Faith = bad Slayer thing that I see around.

I think it's best we don't bring LMPTM in to this thread either because we will take over it. Although I will gladly join the two of you over in that thread cos I think we all feel the same.

TheVoid, totally with you on the whole Spike punching thing. There is nothing romantic or enthralling about randomly punching someone because the person you love doesn't like them. Way to go, Spike, pick up your spine on the way out. 😛

(Wow that felt good to say. I love this thread! lol)

And pushing aside the hate and embracing the love: Riley and Xander's friendship is one of my favourites. I have a lot of love for Riley and I think my change in opinion of Buffy started with her treatment of him.

(And this is totally irrelevant but I'm typing in here so... I'm watching Friends and Principal Flutie is in it!)

I agree, I really liked the Xander/Riley friendship
You should watch AtS. I was pretty "meh" on Angel when he was in Buffy, but after AtS he became my joint-favourite character. He's much more entertaining in his own show.

People keep saying that. I think I will start soon. 🙂

Yes! Watch it nowww :D

Haha, we're like a trio of Agreeing Amigos.

Completely agree. I also hated when he offered to kill Faith for Buffy. Forget about your whole redemption thing for a moment there, did ya Spike?

I love this thread too! It's my favourite thread. 🙂

Well, here's where we differ in opinion because I hate Riley. Like, really hate him. So I liked it when Buffy dissed him. 😀 But the Xander/Riley friendship was fun. I wish Xander had had a guy-friend in the later seasons. It would've been awesome if him and Spike had become best buds (Vitrolic Best Buds of course).

(And this is totally irrelevant but I'm typing in here so... I'm watching Friends and Principal Flutie is in it!)

Huh. I just IMDBed him and I don't remember his Friends character at all. Or in Scrubs either. I'm gonna have to rewatch those episodes now.

People keep saying that. I think I will start soon. 🙂

Good. Hope you enjoy it. 🙂

I'm so glad a second board was made for this thread, I love reading everyone's opinions.

I don't know how unpopular this is, but I don't think Eliza Dushku is that great of an actress :/ . I love her as Faith but sometimes, how she delivers some of her lines makes me cringe.

I haven't watched anything with her in it for a while, so it may just be how Faith was written. I don't know.

Her transition from accidental kill to working for Mayor Wilkins didn't make sense to me. 😱 Maybe I need to watch season 3 again. (Been planning to do that anyway.)

They've got the entire Season 3 of BtVS on Hulu 🙂 It's been up there for a while so I don't know how long it will be up for..

I've been saying that about Eliza for years, although Dollhouse had made her a much better actress
I agree with everything said above about The Scoobies being right in Empty Places. But then, Buffy Summers was never a favourite character of mine in any BTVS Series (I only started watching it because I watched Angel first and wanted the backstory/crossovers).

Faith belongs on ATS, not Buffy. Her talents are wasted on them.

ATS is much much much better than BTVS.

Haha, I hate Riley too! I hated when Xander convinced Buffy to run after him! Good thing he didn't see her, haha. Buffy was right in everything she said in the argument they had!

I think Riley saw her, but he ignored.

yeah it always annoys me that Xander gets her to run after him

I wish Buffy hadn't ran after him. I expected her just to tell Xander that she didn't love him, and go home. I would've preferred Buffy to just realise that Riley wasn't right for her and get on with her life, rather than it being another tragic, angsty breakup.

Conversations With Dead People is overrated. Sure, it has some interesting bits and some tense bits, but it really drags in places. And it's completely lacking in Xander, Giles and Anya. I want to see all the Scoobies together, not 50% of them.

Right! I totally agree! I didn't like that it was Riley who had "moved on" and gotten married either.

MinwaraYana: Really? I have never thought of it that way. Hm... This puts things in a whole new light... And makes Riley seem even more lame. 🙂

I loved S1-2 Cordelia (on BTVS). Although I love her all the way through, but I especially love her then.

Did I mention I don't like Buffy? Particularly S6&7.

I don't like Buffy's character in s6-s7 and I blame the writers for it...they have a talent in changing someone drastically.

Yep. You can see him making a broody face and ignoring her. 😀

I guess, my unpopular opinion right now is...I love Riley. He maybe lame in S5, but I blame the writers. I believe he would never be that whiny.

I'm never interested in Lindsey's character, except the part that he's hot and he sings very well. 😉

I like Illyria better than Fred. Oops.

I don't dislike Riley (in fact, through S4 I like him, it's only S5 I start to go off him) so I guess I agree :p

i agree on all points
Here I go.
. Empty Places. Scoobies had every right to tell Buffy what was on their minds, but Buffy should never have been kicked out of her own house, that those moochers had been using all those years.
. Chosen should have ended with "Yeah, Buffy? What are we gonna do now?". Buffy smiles, walks to the bus, picks up Rona and throws her down the crater. The gang cheer.
. I think shippers see their favorite relationships through rose tinted glasses, and are unwilling to see all the bad sides to the relationship. And will go to a lot of work to make the bad things good. *avoids knives.
. Angel Investigations should have continued in season 5 but with Spike and Cordy.
. I think Joss Whedon has lost his mojo.
. Season 8 is just bad.

I think Buffy Summers is a fierce bitch, even in the latter seasons.

I don't understand the reaction to the Twilight arc of the comics or Batsu. It seems that everyone can have sex but Buffy. I honestly find all the hate that has come from these events misogynistic.

I think the Fang Gang are far better group than the Scoobies

OK, I'm insulted by this. I think that the Bangel stuff is awful and nonsensical, I think it's insulting to Angel to make him a murderer and obsessed with Buffy, it completely ignored all of his development from S3 of BtVS onwards, and it's insulting to Buffy that she instantly forgives the whole murder thing, and is stupid enough to sleep with him without even asking about the curse.

I'd rather not be branded a sexist for my opinions, thank you. :fuming:

Fair enough, I shouldn't have made a blanket statement like that and I apologise for offending you, but there has been horribly sexist comments made across the entire fandom, so for those comments I direct that comment

Apology accepted. 🙂 For the record, I don't like the sexist comments either. But I think that most people have legitimate reasons for not liking S8.

I like the later seasons better than the earlier seasons.

I don't think Lindsey is good looking (and going by the hotness thread, this is an unpopular opinion, lol)

I didn't particularly like the Willow/Tara relationship, especially after what Willow did in OMWF.

I liked Buffy's season four hair.

EDIT:
Kean agrees: I didn't know Buffy's season 4 hair was unpopular? Total agreement on Twillow 🙂

I always see people complaining about her crimped hair... I don't think it's too bad.

I second Kean's comment about Buffy being a fierce bitch 😀

I hate being stereotyped because of the ships I love or don't love.

I think Oz should've went to Angel once he left Buffy.

I loved Gunn up until he started flipping out about 'not being smart' or something in S5. It didn't make much sense to me, lol.

I never liked Riley. I started out watching the episodes out of order, but even before I really knew his character/background, there was still something about him that grinded my nerves. He had this underlying arrogance and close-mindedness. I suppose that is due to lifelong brainwashing, though. For someone who supposedly loved Buffy, he certainly got married quickly.

Also, there are times when I can't stand Dawn. She takes the bratty pre-teen cliche to the extreme.

The entire Buffy/Angel relationship was cheesy. I'm just not one for Romeo & Juliet romances. I preferred the more realistic BtVS relationships.

Season Seven has a few episodes I do enjoy. However, I didn't like most of the Potentials. Kennedy has her moments.

BS6 and AS4 are the best seasons.

Inside Out is really underrated. Darla's showing up is intense and Connor's killing of the innocent is one of the saddest moments of the Buffyverse.

The Jasmine storyline is friggin epic. I really don't understand why everyone hates it.
EDIT: It's so amazing that even the viewers can think Jasmine might be good. It's this whole weird dynamic in my head. Because I know she's evil, but she just makes everyone so happy! And after the events of S3/4 they really needed some happy.

S8 is kick-ass. Sure, there are some crappy issues/arcs, but as a whole, it's great. Stop your hating.

BS7 is slowly creeping up on S6 as my favorite season. I dislike the potentials quite a bit, but I like the storyline, and after watching S7 I start to realize that they really don't play that big of a part at all. I feel like everyone focuses on the bad and ignores the good. Every episode is really solid, especially the early and later episodes. Imo it's the most consistent season in terms of good episodes. A list of good and great and phenomenal episodes from S7: Lessons, Beneath You, Same Time..., Help, Selfless, Him, CwDP, Sleeper, Showtime, Potential, First Date, Get It Done, Storyteller, Lies My Parents Told Me, Dirty Girls, Touched, End of Days, and Chosen. As you can see this is 19 out of 22 episodes. I truly can't see how anyone can see these epys as bad.

Eliza Dushku just isn't that great playing Faith. Don't get me wrong, she's a phenomenal actress though. See: Dollhouse.

I can't stand people who are so cynical about Buffy/Angel. I can't think that way about something that I love and invest so much time in. It comes naturally I guess when I automatically fall in love with the good things, and the bad things are thrown aside. Like I said a couple paragraphs above, people focus too much on the bad.

I love Gunn, but it pisses me off that he's really not trustworthy. If anyone, even his friends, does something that pisses him off, he immediately flips out and becomes S1-Gunn again.

AI IS better than the Scoobies, but nothing compares to the core 3 of the Scoobies (B/W/X), and maybe Giles and even possibly Dawn thrown in there. Imo the Scoobies kinda falls apart once all the boy/girlfriends come into play.

Anyone who thinks Joss has lost his mojo *cough*Frankie*cough* is off his/her rocker. Has anyone seen Dr. Horrible? Dollhouse? Have you read (the good sections of) BS8 or AtF?!?!? Hell, even Sugarshock! is brilliant. You turds need to stop... being... turds.

Agree about Jasmine. I thought all the time if they're right to kill her. :P And yeah S7 episodes are all solid. I don't like only from Sleeper to Showtime.

I agree on the s8 thing

but funnnily enough I think the exact opposite about Eliza. I love her as Faith. thinks she does a great job. Love her in general.
Got really excited to see Dollhouse and then fell hard to the ground upon watching it.
Almost every episode she just kept falling flat in most characters, not even delivering a very good 'doll' mode.
I'm disappointed and starting to think that she's might just not be a strong enough actress to carry her own series.

also, ps. I really love Buffy's season 4 hair
