I don't know what was going on in this scene in VD since I don't watch it, but I found this pretty amusing considering it's the same lines as in Buffy...

I don't think I have seen that ep of Vampire Diaries yet...but Buffy pulled that scene off a Hell of lot better. The timing alone...Jeeze, spit it out already Stefan!

I don't watch Vamp Diaries so I don't really know what going on in that scene. If she was about to kill him, then that would be a bit..strange. But those lines seem pretty common to me.

Heck, I was expecting him to say, "No, you don't..."

Did she ram a sword into his chest? Because that was my favorite part of that scene with Buffy and Angel.

I don't know whats going on in the VD scene, does she kill him right after?

They sure don't deliver those lines nearly as well as SMG/DB did in Buffy. Their timing was awkward and their wasn't nearly the same amount of emotion shown.

Oh my. Even the pauses, the way their faces are. I don't watch it, but man, it's TOO similar.

On the other hand, I got used to rips off from Buffy. What can I say, Buffy is such a good show that all other shows want to be like it, so they rip it off!

I agree. *cough*supernatural*cough*

I'm very much feeling the need to stick up for TVD here. The only thing that is similar in any way to a BtVS is the fact Elena tells him to close his eyes - not the most uncommon words out there!

I think it's a little harsh to say SMG/DB "pulled it off" better. They're not redoing that scene, they're not trying to do it better; it literally has the same three words in it. And no, she doesn't kill him right after.

AS for the ripping off Buffy thing, after watching TVD, I have little else to say other than Joss wishes they'd want to, or would feel the need to rip him off.

I've seen some of The Vampire Diaries, all the first season and some of the second. I had to quit watching it though as it comes on at the same time as Community (a show I REFUSE to miss), and I haven't taken the time to get caught up on my VD yet (maybe I should spell the word out next time, lol). It obviously borrows a lot from Buffy, but I think it is a pretty good show.

It's not just the "close your eyes" line. It's the expressions, the pauses, the two "I love you" right in the same spot as in Buffy's version. It's several things that together look very similar. Watch it well, it's almost the same 🙂

That's true. It's not just the lines, but it's the way it's delivered. Their like the exact same.

The whole thing looks like a complete rip off, but it seems like there is something edited out of the middle, so maybe it isn't as obvious as it looks. All I know is that the way Sarah delivers that "close your eyes" line breaks my heart everytime.

Do you know which ep it is from? I need to check it out.

As for the pulled it off bit, I can only go on that clip but it does seem over wrought and the dialogue delivery poorly timed to me. But I find that in general with TVD, especially with Elena and Stefan.

P.S. It is so strange to disagree with you on a shippish matter! 😛

Well I do certainly see similarities but if the context of the scene isn't the same then I don't think it's too bad cause the words aren't very special story-telling wise. But the delivery was similar yes, peculiar almost, kind of makes me wanna go watch just to see what it was all about. 🙂

(Though I think this True Blood moment is far worse in any case:
Lorena: “Oh, please, please try! Without that sanctimonious little prick Godric to save you, I would just love to rip you open and wear your ribcage as a hat!”)

🙂

Personally, it's a heartbreaking scene between two people who love each other whose lives are about to change dramatically because of their choices. Those facial expressions and exchanges of words and the way they are delivered is in line with scenes of that nature as opposed to deciding to do a similar scene. I imagine there are quite a few scenes across television that would be similar. I didn't think BtVS when I watched it for the first time which is why I don't agree it's a straight rip off. I think its easy to judge that way if you watch it out of context as a standalone scene.

EDIT: Just going back over it and the one thing that stood out to me is that Elena's facial expressions do not remind me of Buffy's at all, but again I think that's because I'm aware of the context. That smile Elena wears is not the same forced one as Buffy's. Angel and Stefan are more similar but again, they are still in completely different places and I think that shows through, if you've followed the whole story/arc.

I think it's from 2.20, right at the end. It could be 2.21 but pretty sure it's just before.

There are times when Elena and Stefan can be a bit stilted, but its a huge episode for them that has a heck of a lot of build up and I think if you don't watch that first, it kind of takes something away from the scene, y'know? If you see what brings them to that pointed, it's not as over wrought. On the other hand, I'm totally biased 😛

And yes, it is weird lol. At this point in time, I wouldn't call myself a "Stelena" shipper. I love Stefan and so I like them together because it makes him happy but I've been bleurgh on Elena for a while now.

As you already know, I'm biased in a whole other way since I can't stand Elena, Stefan or Damon. I'm more likely to see the bad then the good in the show.

Also, I really need to finish Season 2.

You should! There's some great moments for the others especially Jeremy and Alaric. :)

I don't like Elena much either.

I can't stand any of those characters, either lol
Actually, I thought about that a lot. Especially when it comes to Bangel and Stelena (Stefan and Elena). I even made a list on tumblr on couple of stuff that are similar.

Stefan gives Elena the necklace with vervain so Damon can’t compel her = Angel gives Buffy cross necklace that saves her life.

After they sleep together for the first time, something bad happens. Elena finds Katherine’s picture and almost gets herself killed = Angel looses his soul and starts killing again.

Elena makes Stefan drink her blood so he can get better = Buffy makes Angel to drink her blood to survive.

Elena: It’s you and me Stefan. Always. = Angel: You still my girl? Buffy: Always.

Stefan knew Elena before he actually met her when he saved her life = Angel knew Buffy before he met her, he watched her slaying her first vampire.

Stefan goes without his ring outside and waits for the dawn, he wants to die because of the past events but Elena stops him = Angel goes outside and waits for the dawn, The First is torturing him because of the past events but Buffy stops him.

Before Elena goes with Klaus, she tells Stefan “Close Your Eyes” = Before Buffy kills Angel she tells him “Close Your Eyes”, which is also their theme song.

I don't mind it, though. And I don't think they're trying to rip Buffy of.. I mean, those are two very different shows, with different vampires and different main heroins, so little similarities really don't bother me.. to be honest, sometimes I enjoy them.

And yes, scenes are similar. Buffy tells Angel to close his eyes, and when he opens them there is a sword in his torso and he's gone, Elena tells Stefan to close his eyes, and when he opens them, she's gone. But I think 'Close Your Eyes' has a deeper meaning in Buffy, and the talk about Bangel pulling it of better.. well, it's all more dramatic with them. When we compare the scenes, the one in Buffy is better, because it's a turning point.. Angel didn't know what's going on, and Stefan knew once he opens his eyes, Elena will be gone. As much as the scenes are similar, they're different for so many reasons.
