Waiting in the Wings..When you're SLOW, you Blow.

Interesting episode!We learn that when Angel had watched that ballet as Angelus he had cried!amazing!

Although i am a BANGEL fan myself...i can't deny there was much chemistry between Angel and Cordy! David and Charisma were wonderful and also humorous!!!
I wanted Fred to choose Wesley!I felt so sorry for him...the moment he saw those two kissing...it felt wrong!

WAITING IN THE WINGS

The Good;
All of it, great humour, great pathos, the ballet is beautiful and this is THE ep for Cangelers

The Bad;
?-actually how can Angel be so sure that it's the same people he saw 100 years ago, do vampires have perfect recall? And do we really believe that Angelus who casually slaughters entire famillies gets moved to tears by a ballet (or is he just gilding the lily for Gunn?). How does the Count explain that his ballet company appears to have no members?

Best line:
Showing the double edged genius of the ep (comedy and tragedy) it's either "I don't dance, I echo" by the ballerina or "You know I was cool before I met y'all" by Gunn

Jeez, how did they get away with that?

Apocalypses: 5

Angel Cliches
Inverting the Hollywood cliche; In the end the ballerina fades away, she's free but not as we might have expected her to go free.

In disguise; 8

DB get's his shirt off; 12

Cordy's tatt; astonishingly given all the nudity no,10

Cheap Angel; 9
He complains he used to be able to get better seats.

Fang Gang in bondage:
Cordy: 5
Angel: 11
Wes: 6
Gunn; 3
Lorne; 3
Fred; 1

Fang gang knocked out:
Cordy: 11
Angel: 14
Wes: 5
Doyle; 1
Gunn; 1
Lorne; 3

Kills: 3 minions for Angel and 1 for Wes
Cordy: 5 vamps, 3½ demons
Angel; 39 vamps, 55 and 1/2 demons, 7 humans
Doyle; 1 vamp
Wes; 12 demons+3 vamps, 2 humans
Kate; 3 vamps
Faith; 16 vamps, 6 demons, 3 humans.
Gunn; 8 vamps+ 8 demons.

Fang Gang go evil:
Cordy: 2
Angel: 2
Gunn; 1
Wes; 1

Alternate Fang Gang: CC and Angel possessed by the spirits of the ballerina and her lover
Cordy: 2
Angel: 8

Recurring characters killed;
8;

Total number of Angel Investigations:
5, Angel, Cordy, Wes, Gunn and Fred

Angel Investigations shot:

Packing heat;
Wes; 5
Doyle; 1
Angel; 1
Gunn; 1

Notches on Fang Gang bedpost: so how far do CC and Angel go? Certainly plenty of above the waist action but probably not all the way. Cordy however confirms her relationship with Phantom Dennis.
Cordy: 3 ?+Wilson/Hacksaw Beast+Phantom Dennis
Angel: 5; Buffy, Darla and The Transcending Furies
Wes; 2; Virginia and the bleached blonde

Kinky dinky:
CC thinks that men would dig 'The Ravager' because she has 6 breasts. The jacket gag, some extremely saucy dialogue between CC and Angel. Lorne comments on Angel's yen for cheerleaders.

Captain Subtext;
Fred thinks Gunn is 'pretty'. The entire ep concentrates on the ballet. Lorne calls Angel a variety of pastries.

Know the face, different character; 4

Parking garages;
5,

Guantanamo Bay;

Buffy characters on Angel; 16
Wetherby, Collins and Smith. Angel, Cordy, Oz, Spike, Buffy, Wes, Faith, Darla, Dru, The Master, Anne, Willow and Harmony

Questions and observations;
Amazed they let Joss away with the shameless plugging of his brother's band. Also amazed that Summer Glau had no acting experience prior to this, she's amazing both acting and dancing. Once again how would CC who was born around 1985 know about Spinal Tap? Wes shows his fencing skill which we saw him practicing with Giles back in SD. For a moment you really think that Wes will turn Iago style on Gunn and Fred but as CC comments he's a gentleman. Always wondered about the little moment when Fred turns to Wes and says 'I thought it would work out another way'. Does she know how Wes feels about her? Is she hinting that she's still interested? Lorne tells Connor the story of the Rat Pack, wonder if he knew Angel hung out with them? Start a "website", nice reach out to the fans.
Marks out of 10; 10/10 a real treat rivalling OMWF

I was mad at this episode because it should have been Fresley.

I'm a Cangel fan and even I found those scenes uncomfortable. It was too soon.

I was never that keen on the idea of Fred and Gunn but it kinda grew on me.

Brilliant episode imo, possibly my fave from this season gutted for Angel when Groo arrives though.

I never even noticed that it was Summer Glau as the ballerina until I watched it a couple of weeks ago either, can't believe I missed that.

This was her big break, through this she got Firefly, then TSCC, The Unit, Big Bang Theory etc

Poor poor poor Wesley 🙁 I want my Fresley now! & grr @ the beginning of Cangel. I'm finding this harder to deal with than I did Spuffy 😛

BTW - I'm not saying Angel should be alone forever, but if he can be with Cordy, then there was no reason for leaving Buffy in the first place. He's still cursed, still a vampire, and all the reasons he left Buffy are still there. Why is she any different from Buffy? Doesn't make sense and kind of annoys me.

spuffy is much worse than cangel! :P If I had to choose between the two it would be cangel...it is much sweeter and it has some love,mostly friendship

The reason he lost his soul when he had sex with Buffy was because it was with Buffy, not necessarily because it was sex.

exactly!
I like that episode and although I am Bangel, I like seeing Angel and Cordy together, possessed by ghosts. Well, the talk between them inside that room sometimes makes me blush!!!
But I love David and Charisma's chemistry! At least for now, it has a better feeling than season 6 of Buffy which is at the same time as s3 of Angel. I think Joss has said that Charisma hasn't done a love scene in his shows before and they were trying to make her feel comfortable. David is so gentle!

When Cordy says "we're done, we're doooone!!!" and she has that scared look on her face(is she afraid possessed Angel is gonna do sth on her?:whistle🙂 I can't help smiling!

And, I really wanted Fresley to happen!!!I felt sorry for poor Wes when he saw Fred and Gunn together. Frunn is cute, but somehow I wanted the two nerds(scientist and former Watcher) to get together!!!

And btw, I felt surprised by the fact that evil Angelus could cry watching a ballet, but I always knew Angelus was not just for the murder. He was more sadistic and master of torture. He is kind of a "noble" vampire...if that term even exists for their kind. He doesn't want just food, he wants quality!

Maybe not vampires in general, but Angel does, though this isn't actually mentioned until Supersymmetry.

I think this episode is a little overrated, to be honest, but that's maybe just because I'm not really into Cangel or Fred/Gunn. Still, a lot of the Cangel stuff in particular seemed pretty heavy-handed to me.

I don't like this episode's plot cause it seem so been there, done that like in I Only Have Eyes For You on Buffy BUT it was nice to change setting for an episode. Gotta love Lorne and Groo! Really bad thing: Cangel. Where is the chemistry? It was so weird to watch them kissing like that, it doesn't make the slightest bit sense for them to be with each other and I still can't buy Angel's in love with Cordelia. I can't feel a single emotion coming from them. Now, all Cangel shippers are gonna throw rocks at me. LOL

I am a Fred/Wesley shipper but I think it made sense that Fred and Gunn got together first because with the exception of Lorne they were the two lighthearted members of the gang. Personality wise, on the surface, they had a lot in common. Wesley not only waited too long, but the events of Billy put an awkwardness between him and Fred that allowed Gunn to sweep in and steal the girl.

Although I prefer Fred with Wesley, I do agree with this. Also, given that Fred had spent 5 yrs in Pylea, I think her emotional growth was a little stunted. Much of Gunn's development comes later, and I think they're at the same place emotionally. They just give off a younger vibe than Wesley. And they've been hanging out a lot, too.

Those Cangel scenes in the wings of the ballet house were pure hotness. I remember being shocked that they got away with that in primetime TV.

Wow, tell me about it! I mean, "I'm only alive when you're inside me"? Yowza.

OK, this is what I think about Cangel so far: I don't mind it. I mean, I don't think it's unrealistic to think that a very good friendship can develop into romance. What bothers me though is that it seems that it's forced on them by others (Fred, Lorne). I wish the writers had made it so that it came more from them. I love the scene at the end of Provider where they're laying on the bed with Connor. That seemed like more than friendship to me. But they both seemed so clueless about it.

And I like Groo, and feel some sweet chemistry between Groo & Cordy, but it really pisses me off. I don't know why I feel that strongly about it, it's just irritating.

In general, I disliked all the stuff before they get to the ballet, liked everything afterward. Seeing each other in their formalwear...oh so corny.

ETA that I loved when the Summer Glau character said, "I don't dance. I echo." Even I, who have not seen Dollhouse yet, thinks that's interesting, since Eliza Dushku's character's name is Echo.

Have you guys seen the bonus scene where Wesley fantasizes that he's dancing with Fred? It's hilarious, which is precisely why they deleted it:

Oh my god! Why did they take that scene out?! I never saw it before... it was great! 😀 Wesley hurt himself halfway through, lol.

I think they deleted it because it contrasted with the more serious nature of the rest of the ep.
Bahaha! That is hilarious! I don't think it really suited the rest of the episode though.

Those tight pants... Hello sexy Wesley!

I loved this episode, Cangel rocks! But as much as I love it, I hate Groo and Ats starts to go downhill after this (in my opinion).

I completely agree with you except hating Groo I just dont want him in the way of Cangel :p

I like Groo but Groo/Cordy was a snoozefest
Does anyone else hate this moment?

Does anybody else hate (or feel terribly emotional towards) the moment in the episode 'Waiting In The Wings' towards the end, when Angel starts to admit his feelings to Cordelia but then Groo from Pylea appears? Poor Angel, it breaks my heart to see him so sad afterwards 🙁

Angel: Cordy... you and I, we've been working together for a long time. What I mean is, you've become a truly extraordinary woman. I know we haven't always gotten along, but I think that we, you know, we...
Cordelia: Groo?
Angel: Yes! We... we grew closer together, I think...
Cordelia: Groo!

😡
