Was Skip a Baddie?

If you consider some of the choices a souled Angel had made, or Wes or Gunn, Skip was no more evil than the rest of them.

He was a good demon who made choices that had evil results.

They didn't decide to unleash Jasmine. Skip in essence wanted to mind-rape the entire world. I'm not saying that Skip thought that he was working for evil or that this was a bad thing to do just that it is in my moral scale.

Ok, Wesley is not principled, but he knows (S4) his own evil until Angel takes his memories from him. Wesley is a man with flaws who decides to work for good. He is not on the same caliber with Skip although their reasoning might be similar. W&H thought that Jasmine was good after all, or at least they claimed to in order to recruit Angel and his group. Gunn has made bad decisions, but as far as I remember he never sacrificed a good inocent person for his ideals. I would never call him evil.

As for Angel he comes closest to Skip in behavior. After all he stole the memories of those people who were closest to him. However, Angel never tried to harm everyone on Earth. If he went a little crazy though, he is definitely capable of Skip-like, Connor-like logic and could think that something that others consider bad might be good if it stops suffering in exchange for a little free will.

I think most people are missing the point of the two things that defined Skip, that being demon and mercenary.

Whilst he seemed to be a nice enough guy (as far as demons go) before Inside Out, everything he did, from allowing Angel to free Billy, to acting as Cordelia's guide, was because he was under instruction from Jasmine to do so.

We therefore have no idea what the "real" Skip was like as nothing we saw him do was for the reasons we previously assumed.

I think the fairest assessment of Skip therefore would be to assume that he was neither good nor evil, just a merc demon who was willing to work for anyone who would pay him enough. In this case Jasmine.

If he was willing to work for anyone who would pay him enough, obviously he has no moral values of his own and is willing to sell his soul (if he has one, if not it's a figure of speech) to the highest bidder no matter what his "employer" represents.

Although we only see a small glimpse of what Skip has done, he's not working for the tooth fairy 🙂

Well i'd agree that his choices would definately land him closer to the side of evil than of good. However it's true in real life that people work as mercenaries and choose their sides based on financial gain rather than whether they particularly agree with the principals of the people they work for.

Skip was more than ready to turn against Jasmine when his safety was threatened which tells me that he just didn't care about what Jasmine was doing and how that would affect the world. He showed no loyalty to Jasmine at all, telling Angel everything he wanted to know as soon as he saw it was in his best interests.

People (or in this case demons) such as that can't be called evil exactly as they have no real evil intent, they just don't care. Skip would have been just as likely to work for Angel, as it was Jasmine got to him first and made him a good enough offer to play for her side.

So Skip wasn't evil, nor was he exactly good, he was, erm, morally ambiguous! 🙂
