While your comment is obviously humourous (I am LOLing, I promise) there isn't any news in Giraffitis!

The reason CJD, Avian Flu and now Swine Flu do create the media furore is because the animals they are linked to pretty much 90% of the western world is in contact with every day.

The actual potential of anyone catching one of these is magnificently small, but it sells papers and turns people on to the news.

Did you know that you, or more importantly a baby, can contract Salmonella (which is deadly to infants) from Lizards?
Thats a far bigger threat, however how many people come into contact with them each day?

All over the world, there are animals that can pass on, sometimes deadly, diseases to humans BUT who cares because those animals don't have much impact on our day to day life.
 
Everyone knows you can't get swine flu from eating the meat, right? 😛

Oh and I'm sure the next one will be trout flu since it's used so much on IRC!
 
Swine Flu, Bird Flu, Meteorites, Volcanoes, whatever it is that's going to end humanity, let it be soon.

After Avian Flu...which was a complete anti-climax...I just think this whole pandemic will be a disappointment.

I feel so detached from all these health scares. Its weird...I know it must be truly happening but I cant seem to believe it. like its at the back of my mind like a fly in a room. Tiny buzzing but I dont acknowledge it's presence.

I'm not sure how exactly. But don't hurt any pigs. Maybe don't purchase any pork products for a day. Eh, but they're already dead, so it doesn't make much of a difference.
Hmmm. Don't watch " Babe". Yeah, go a year without watching "Babe" - but he is a cute little bugger. Ok, don't watch "Babe" for 6 months - but that "baa -ram-ewe" thing is pretty sweet. Ok, go a month without watching " Babe". Ah, but when the farmer sings that " if I had words " song. Right, go a day without watching Babe.

Heres a GREAT case of scaremongering.

I watched the News at Ten tonight and they did the opening bit with all the news, then showed a woman who was the Government Health spokeswoman or something said:
"We have 2 suspected cases that we have quarantined off, but the risk to the public is very low"

10 seconds later the Newswoman said:
"We'll give you full details on how to protect yourself from a possible outbreak"

Seriously!

Watched the same News, got my mum to switch it over to IVT hoping for less scaremongering but got the same.

I bet in a few months its all over.

Swine Flu will be gone within a couple of weeks, BUT we'll still be hearing about it until Christmas - then Sci-Fi will do a TV movie about an American city that has swine flu kill millions, until Randy Quaid and a former soap actor and maybe Will from Will and Grace band together to find a cure, just in time before the presidents estranged daughter dies from it, giving them the second chance at being a family that her mother wanted before she died of cancer 3 years ago!

Actually, Mr. Bear is a member of the Zombie Squad forums, which includes many army, border patrol, doctors, etc., and they're saying it's way worse than what the news is letting on. They're discussing shutting down Mexico City, the border patrol is in their MOP gear, and doctors are saying that without vigorous prevention, we could have millions of cases in a couple of weeks.

It could be really bad. It could be nothing. But it's nothing to dismiss out of hand, either.

I'm not worried at all about this thing. The way I figure, when it's my time to go, it's my time so whatever. I'm going to keep living my life exactly how I always have and not think about it. I feel bad for the families who have lost loves ones to this disease, though. 🙁
 
I'm watching the news right now and the headline stated that the disease is not 'containable'....and urging people not to go to Mexico unless they really have to.

I am beginning to think, that despite the argument the media just embellish everything, this is a much bigger issue than the Avian Flu outbreak.

Well apparently there's a difference in how it spreads...with the swine flu just being able to spread like a normal flu, while it was quite hard to catch the avian flu, me thinks
