The reason CJD, Avian Flu and now Swine Flu do create the media furore is because the animals they are linked to pretty much 90% of the western world is in contact with every day.
The actual potential of anyone catching one of these is magnificently small, but it sells papers and turns people on to the news.
Did you know that you, or more importantly a baby, can contract Salmonella (which is deadly to infants) from Lizards?
Thats a far bigger threat, however how many people come into contact with them each day?
All over the world, there are animals that can pass on, sometimes deadly, diseases to humans BUT who cares because those animals don't have much impact on our day to day life.
