Were you unhappy with Anya's death?

I think he should have broke down and cried, i know i did, for gods sake i showed more sadness when anya died then everyone else on the program!!! lol
 
I think he probably wound up crying and lamenting for her after everything sank in...I mean come on the town was just sucked up into a crater and they saved the world...it's a lot to take in on one day. Plus they were all aware that any one of them may not survive. Not to take away from Anya because she's one of my faves, but I'm just trying to rationalize it all 😀
 
Nobody cried about anybody, Spike, Anya, Those Pesky Potentials, The Shops, The First (hey he deserves a tear 😛). Everyone was numb there was no sadness.

*imagines everyone getting off the bus and just crying until it says "Executive Producer Joss Whedon"*

Sorry for the OT...but yeah...that would have made for a horrible ending just to see them all crying...
 
And...as Ive said before...after Joss shouted 'cut' there is no show...characters didnt cry after the show ended...because theres no show after the show ended, obviously...

And again I say, I didnt want *everyone* to cry, just Xander could've shed a tear or something, and not even cried to the end of the show, just like...when he spoke to Andrew...
 
I think that if the finale was longer that they'd have a better exit for Anya. I suppose that pacing would be messed up she had died another way or if Xander had continued to look for her.. since Sunnydale was going down the crapper in a quick swift flush. But I agree with both sides. Xander and the others, (heck maybe even Andrew could've cried since she saved him,) could and should have given her more acknowledgement...way more! But as it was the final minutes of the series, Buffy had to end it with her smile.

yeah, I didn't thaught Anya died at first, she couldn't die it was so abrupt or something!! But it was quite good that it was Anya who died, it would have been more teriffyieng if one of the original scoobies had died. Spike's death was beautiful! and he's last line "Schools out for Summer" aah, no need to explaine it's just such a wonderful line!
 
I agree with every word that Lee has said.

While I was upset that Anya died, I realized before the episode that someone would. But there definitely should have been more recognition. I also would have been okay with it had she died saving Xander or Giles, but Andrew... c'mon!. They even could have had a scene where Xander tries to go back in after her, that would have been touching.

I could ramble on for hours, but Lee has put it so elegantly that I can't top it.
 
Joss Whedon says on the commentary track that he couldn't have killed one of the core four (Buffy, Xander, Willow, Giles) or Dawn and call it a happy ending, but he wanted a middle-of-the-battle death. Emma Caulfield said she was ready to move on, so Anya got the nod.

Her death was brutal and graphic, as a death in the middle of a fight like that should be. And judging by the comments made here, it worked. A major character dying should make you sad and angry, if it doesn't, either the writers or the actor isn't doing their job. In Anya's case, everyone came to the table.

On the lack of emotion shown, no one except Xander and Andrew knew she was dead and it was kinda tough to get a word in edgewise during the last speech. There were a lot of things to be sad over besides Anya's death (think about Buffy, Dawn and Willow; they can never visit the graves of their loved ones!). Of course this just helps my argument that 'Chosen' should have been two hours. You're having the final episode ever it should be a slam-bang, two-hour blow-out. Think Joss and Co. dropped the ball there.

The more I think about it the more I realize I cannot watch the last ep.

Its just too sad. Not only does Spike die, thinking Buffy doesn't love him, but Anya practically gets chopped in two.. Why did she have to die? I mean they set it up for Andrew to die, so it was obvious he wouldn't--Why Anya? :cry:
Remember that ep where Halle died, and Dehoffren, or however you spell it, said something like "Oh don't worry, you'll get yours" Was it all planned?

Its just too sad, Why'd you do it Joss :cry:
 
Joss wanted, basically, to kill someone. He wanted a death that was quite different from the noble, heroic death of Spike, something that was in the middle of the battle and, in terms of the big picture, meaningless. Emma Caulfield had made it clear she was ready to move on, so Anya got the nod.
 
And D'Hoffryn's comment at the end of Selfless was definately a reference to the fact Anya would die in Chosen. No doubt knowing that she would die within the year anyway made killing Halfrek to punish Anya all the more satisfying to him.

He was head of the Vengeance Demons after all 😉
 
I think that Anya's death should've been more heroic. She just got sliced w/ a knife and i wish she could've died to save Andrew or SOMETHING.
 
I like that Anya dies that way. I mean I hate, because it's so wrong, she deserved a better end, she sure did, but I so get why she died like this. And the fact that it's so simple makes it even more sad. The moment she died, the first time I watched it, I stopped breathing, 'cause I wasn't sure I believed my eyes. It was so fast, maybe I saw wrong..? Maybe that wasn't really Anya.. maybe she was just hurt..? I couldn't believe it, which made me "like" the way she died. 'Cause it's not what you expect. Someone had to die, someone important.. And Anya was almost the only option. Buffy, Xander, Willow and Giles couldn't die. Dawn neither, since she mattered too much to Buffy (which would've affected the end for Buffy too much, sounds all wrong but, still). Anya was the most important character left, that could die, without affecting too much (aw, it sounds like I think she's unimportant, and I really don't).
 
I know what you mean, it was a real heartstopper--I actually jumped when I saw it, almost felt like I was sliced, I hate the real graphic stuff--you know when someone gets something drilled in their ear, and you just squirm? LOL, something like that, just sends shivers down your body, and I just couldn't believe it!
 
My jaw dropped when I saw that part. I loved Anya, and it was at first upsetting that she would die like that. Not in a heroic way, although I admired that Andrew told Xander that she died a hero. In a way it reminds me of Tara's eath. So simple.
 
I stopped breathing for a good few minutes when I first saw Anya die... I seriously could not believe it either... Hense why I cannot watch the last part of Chosen... Just like I don't watch the last three episodes from Season 6... (I try to kid myself... If I don't see Tara die, she's not really dead 🙁)

I think that Anya DID die heroically in a way... She fought like mad, for someone who was freaked out (until Andrew mentioned Bunnies)... She was rocking... That's why it was such a shock... Everything was going so well (Or as well as a war to end all wars COULD go)... And then POOF she dies... *tear*

Granted, Anya had a heroic death but apart from that her death was totally dismissed. We didn't even see how she died and then Xander barely acknowledged that the woman he loved was gone for ever. It was a tragic end for a much loved character and too under played. It was as if Joss just said 'I want one of the main characters to die but we don't have enough time to do, so just do this.' It made the episode tacky and incompletely!
 
I could see the why they did it like that, why it "needed" to be done and how that was the only way... But really, I agree with you Jules. I was just as disappointed and although it was a heroic death and I get that they didn't have time to talk about Anya during the last five minutes of the show, I think it was the (like you said) 'I want one of the main characters to die but we don't have enough time to do, so just do this' thing.. And I'm really sad it "had" to be like that, hm.
