What is the single most shocking moment in the Buffyverse?

The end of "The Trial" when Darla accepts death and Angel says he'll stay with her . . . then Lindsey bursts in with Drusilla who turns Darla against her will with Angel helplessly looking on.
Those last few minutes always make me shiver even though I know it's going to happen. The first time I saw that, I was saying "Wow. What a great, emotional scene. Darla is finally- what the? Oh, no! Drusilla? Nooooooo!"
I felt so bad for Angel and Darla.
 
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Buffy in a decayed state in her grave, suddenly being reconstituted wen she comes back to life. She seemed to be in a much further advanced state of decay than you would expect for someone who had only been dead for 147 days, but the return to life was very creepy.
 
I'm always truly shocked whenever I watch 'Normal Again' - the episode just felt so real and I actually found myself afterwards questioning if it could be at all possible. Weird I know, but still. I love that episode but it freaks me out nonetheless.

I'd also have to agree when Giles returns with 'I'd like to test that theory'. I remember yelling 'YES!!!' for that one.

I do agree that AtVS had more shocking moments but I can't think of any off the top of my head that differ from the ones listed above.

Well Xander says "Good, the mob still hasn't found us, we should be safer up here" and Angel says "Works in theory" 🙂

Anya's death. Other deaths on the show upset me much more for their emotional impact (Joyce, Tara, Jenny etc.) but Anya's death was so sudden and so incredibly brutal. Something about the quickness of it and the diagonal strike was and still is so impacting. I still have a hard time watching it.

The introduction of Dawn or the death of Joyce I think. Then again, Angel turning into Angelus was quite shocking as well during the first watch, hard to pick.
 
In Buffy, it's hard to say as I've seen them all so many times that I anticipate all the shocking moments. In fact, I can't even really remember how I reacted the first time round to many of them. The one that does stand out is Joyce's death. I knew about the episode The Body before watching it, and had prepared myself for it. But I originally thought that The Body was the episode in which she died. So imagine my shock when Buffy comes home and BAM, it's already happened.

Also, Cassie's death in Help. The assumption is that after she's been saved from the sacrifice, her vision is no longer relevant. And then she dies and you find out that it wasn't the sacrifice at all. Brilliant writing there *checks wikipedia to see who wrote it* Rebecca Rand Kirshner
