What was Buffy's worst decision EVER?

For me, going against Giles and the rest at the end of s5 in not wanting to sacrifice Dawn. I understand completely why she couldn't or wouldn't and I feel a lot for her at that moment but to willingly let the world get sucked more or less into hell where Dawn would most likely die soon along with countless of other innocent people, Buffy's friends and perhaps herself... yes, that's a bad decision to me.
I know that's what she said. And I guess that's how she felt at the moment.
But I've never been convinced that she would actually let the world go to hell instead of sacrifice Dawn if it had actually come to that.
So I would never call it her worst decision since i don't believe it truly was her final decision on the subject. 🙂

Not sure what I would call her worst decision though.
Never liked whenever she kept things from her friends. Believing they wouldn't understand and whatnot.
Really bad idea, they proved many times that they worked best together without secrets.

Wait, what?! Allie said Buffy and Angel weren't under control of the Glow??? Are you serious? They did this under their own free will? Can someone supply me with a link to where Allie said this?

I don't even know what to say...this changes everything for me. The only way I was able to justify this was because she wasn't "herself."

As for the worst thing she's ever done in the televised series, I'd say it was allowing the Potentials to go and fight before they were prepared. As a result, she got them killed. Also, NOT killing Angel when she sent him to Hell. She should have staked him , not just stabbed him. Harsh but true.

As much as I used to love Angel, a lot could have been avoided if Buffy had just killed him.

And I agree that buffy should have staked Spike. It was out of character not too.

It's in a recent Q&A on that site we can't mention Allie talks about the glow, but that we have in common. Either the old site or new site.

Buffy was under the influence of the glow, but there's some nuance. According to Allie :

The glow in the Twilight arc has been controversial for various reasons, most significantly because of issues of consent for both Buffy and Angel. What was the reasoning behind the glow originally, and to what degree should we take it as making Buffy and Angel’s decisions for them?

SCOTT: We wanted a visual representation of what was going on, the way they were infused. But you should not let the characters off the hook completely for their actions. It worked like a drug, clouding your judgment, but you’re still you. You should not abandon responsibility for your actions, even if you might have acted differently if not under the influence.

It was a Q/A on another forum, I can't post the link. He explained it more clearly on another interview, but I don't remember where. More precisely, he said it was like alcohol : if you drink and kill someone with you car, that's not your will, but you're still responsible of your mistake.

I think I've heard of that. And if that's the case, Buffy is of my hook completely. Because she didn't choose to get effected by the glow.

People do things they regret when they drink, and if they choose to drink, to risk getting into a car, it's their fault. But not if someone slipped something into your drink so you get drugged or more drunk than planned. It of course depends how much the glow/drug/drink effected you. If it's just like a sip of wine, that's not a big deal. if it's more like several bottles of wine, that's a big deal, and no one could be blamed for getting in a car after that. I assume the latter, since Allie compared it to drunk driving, but who knows (and who knows what the others writers thought of the glow's effect).

Brrr, since this glow/drug-thing lead to sex, it's like twilight/the universe raped them. I mean, twilight wanted them to have sex, drugged them with the glow, so it would it happen. Urk.

But I'm not sure that the glow affected Angel. Because he was acting like he acted during all the season 8, and his speeches didn't seemed to be affected by any external force. Buffy, we see the changes. Before the glow, she tried to kill him, she yelled at him that he killed his girls, and after the glow, she totally changes her attitudes. It was also because Twangel brought her at an emotional point enough low for her to be influenced. That's how I understood it at least. It was both because of the glow and the fact that she was emotionaly at her lowest, which leads her at those bad choices (choices she probably wouldn't have make if she had been totally herself and in the right emotional place).

Stopping The First, and making the show end.... 🙁

In all seriousness, her worst decision would have to be letting Faith take over as leader for the potentials in season 7 I guess. I know she was in a bad state of mind, but still a bad bad decision. Look what happened!
