What Would You Like To See On The Boards?

I remember an Andrew forum being requested before, and the response was, there wasn't enough support for it yet.

I'd like to add my vote though, so now you have support of at least 3 members.

Speaking of things that have been mentioned before. I never understood why personalized avatars are not allowed.

Is it because the board might lose it's Buffy feel if any type of avatar was allowed, or are there copyright problems?

Is it already possible, or could it be possible to submit graphics to the avatar collection for consideration?
 
There are actually a lot of reasons for not allowing custom avatars.

The main one I guess is that they increase the load on the server and bandwith usage, which would create some serious performance issues. I've looked into this a lot actually with vbulletin to see how they would affect the speed of the site loading. We've seen other boards we know that started allowing them, go back and stop allowing them after having problems.

Another reason is simply quality control - quality of images and also controlling...um...shall we say inappropriate content in pictures. Unfortuneately inevitably people would abuse the feature.

We do want to keep the Buffy feel, which is why we only have Buffy-related avs. Plus, there are so many Buffy characters lol that keeps us with enough to work on.

You can submit pics (please don't submit avatars) by emailing them or better yet adding them to the gallery. 🙂

Edit: Oh, the other reason we don't have custom avatars is that it is the one perq for mods.

Yes thats correct, I asked previously for no more suggestions for an Andrew forum or new colour schemes.

We are still looking at the amount of traffic the Andrew threads are getting, so we have not forgotten about you. And as I said in them, simply posting 'he should get his own forum' does not qualify as a post.
 
Sub- and superscript. The other day we were having this discussion on Chemistry and in order to properly display reactions and all sup and superscript were really needed.

Also sorry bout the dairy.

And, publicate the css code for the scheme, so ppl can make their own, send 'em in and you don't have to do all the work anymore, just revising would be 'nuff and then you'll never have the I want this or that scheme crap again!

How about a spell check. Can that be done? Is it even possible?

Actually I don't mind bad spelling. I think it's kind of cute, but there's one word that drives me around the bend. It's the word "definitely".

Everyone spells it "definately", and not just here, all over the internet.

Hey, if everyone spells it incorrectly long enough, will it eventually become the correct spelling?

Anyway, how about a spellcheck? or how about a spellcheck just for the word "definitely"?

I think we could definately do with a spelling check. Actually it isn't all that hard to make, if you want, I saw it on these other boards once, if you want I can check up the code?
 
Ooh, I just thought of a problem.

I gave Cordelia an idea for a "Bad Spelling" award, one time.

You couldn't use both suggestions.
 
But how about sub/super-script, can anyone tell me whether that'll be included?
 
I don't know, but it's kind of basic. It's not like a big change, even ProBoards has this function!
 
Yeah it's not a big change, but the point is that it's something 99% of people won't use. Even small changes take time to do that I could use to do something else.

Anyway, I've added it so you'll be able to use it after we upgrade.
 
I don't know if this has been mentioned before in this thread (apologies if it has - it's gotten too long to trawl through all the posts) but I'd like to see a "see all posts since (insert date) (insert time)" type of function.

We've had an internet "improvement" (hah!) at work and many mornings now, when I try to get on the Board, I get the "page can't be found - try a refresh" IE error page. Then when I refresh the page (some times more than once) I get the "New Messages" link as if I actually had logged on successfully at the first attempt and then logged on again later (e.g. "3 new messages" instead of the lots posted overnight)

I hope that makes sense to someone.
 
Actually that's a very good idea, with ana8 and Magui so highly active I can't always work my way through all new threads, so it be swell if somehow I could re-do them another time I get on.

Or, perhaps, you can make it so that post indicators can only be turned off manually, not automaticaly after you leave the site.
 
Here's another suggestion:

Official Shipper-Listings.

Board "families" only to be created by the Senior Partners, so it doesn't violate rule 11 below, which contain a list of people who want to officialy register themselfs as shippers for a certain ship. Perhaps there's a way you could tie this in with their profiles so this will get displayed on it.

11. Board "families" are not allowed. Any creation of groups or clubs on this site MUST be cleared first with the The Senior Partners.
