What Would You Like To See On The Boards?

I love Mr. Pointy's idea - that would be so useful. I like the 'Shipper listing thing as well (as long as you can choose more than one, or none, if you want)!

I'd like to see a color scheme for "the wish" or "chosen" but I like the ones we have now lol.

Noooooooo not another colour scheme request...we said no more of these 😉

However we do take note of the schemes you want so when Cordelia is in her creative phase she has an idea of what to do.

I see, well in that case, I want schemes for: Harmony, Harmony, Harmony and Harmony!

I don't know if this has been mentioned before in this thread (apologies if it has - it's gotten too long to trawl through all the posts) but I'd like to see a "see all posts since (insert date) (insert time)" type of function.

We've had an internet "improvement" (hah!) at work and many mornings now, when I try to get on the Board, I get the "page can't be found - try a refresh" IE error page. Then when I refresh the page (some times more than once) I get the "New Messages" link as if I actually had logged on successfully at the first attempt and then logged on again later (e.g. "3 new messages" instead of the lots posted overnight)

I hope that makes sense to someone.

There was a hack for this, but it basically just screwed up everyone's board and didn't work. If I ever find a stable one, I would definitely install it. The upgrade we are doing will help a little bit, but I'll keep my eye out for something that lets you view posts from a certain date. 🙂

At this other board I lurk at sometimes they're thinking of creating some kind of Newbie adoption scheme to make newbies feel at home, and help them through the tough bits.

All they have now though is a germ of an idea, and a newbie thread.

Would it be worth considering to add something like that to the Check In forum.

I don't know how you'd do it. Maybe something like an adopt me button. Click it, and you agree to take that newbie under your wing with a PM.

Ah Ha... I think I'm beginning to see the problem with board families.

Correct me if I'm wrong. If you allow them, little cliques start to form. Before you know it, you get what I call sw'acking. That's where groups of members swarm to attack points of view that differ from the dogma of the clique.

Is my theory correct?

Your theory is spot on. It also tends to lead to people putting their families in their signatures, either in text or banners and it makes them longer.

However we are looking at a different approach to your idea. Like everything else in this thread we are discussing it.

The main thing about board families is that things get cliquey as you said, and then new members don't feel comfortable. I know that's why I hardly ever posted at other boards before this one.

I would like to resuggest my Hall of Fame forum idea by suggesting 3 threads I feel would fit in there. In this way you'll get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

* Old Master 2.0 and Dark Knut's "BB Battles" thread. - Not finished, but already a classic

* Wesley's "What's your sexual orientation?" thread. - The diversity of the responses and the way everyone got along says a lot about Buffy fandom, I think.

* My "Buffyisms" thread. - Humility is over-rated, and anyway I thought it was quite informative.

Whether you want it or not, there's already clique forming on it's way, pay close attention and you'll notice. Luckily we're civilized ppl, so no harm is done. But I agree, that if you would do it openly, it might lead to bigger clashes!

We do realise that cliques are forming and are currently looking at ways to combat it. Just because we appear to be doing nothing about it does not mean that we are.

I didn't say you weren't. But you'll always have this, as much as you may try, new groups will always emerge... kind of human nature.

BTW: You do realize the guy in ur av looks like he's in vamp face, dont u?

We can but try.....you just made the mistake....the big mistake of slandering my Cole...not a good move buddy.....and do you want me to get started on you using kewl talk in a post 😉

Have you ever seen the Flame Warriors website?

It's this hilarious cartoon study of the types of people who hang around message boards, and the kinds of things they do.

I'll give you a link:

Flame Warriors

Sorry for the interruption, I was still thinking about cliques and stuff.
