what's your opinion on cursing?

I curse; but I like to think I don't do it just to curse. I actually like using sci-fi replacements like frak and such. When I get very frustrated I tend to spout whole sentences which are nothing but one long curse. I don't do it around my nieces though; maybe once they hit their teens.

Does anyone feel like only certain people should be allowed to curse?

Example: If the president got in front of the country and used a bunch of curses, would that lower your opinion of him/her? Even though you all curse yourselves?

Honestly, if the president got in front of the country and cursed, I'd be like "That's ****ing awesome."

If David Cameron got up in parliment and was like, "we're gonna beat this fcuking recession to siht" I'd be like wicked innit.

I remember a video where Obama said (about Kanye West in regards to the Kanye/Taylor Swift interruption), "He's a jacka**..."

Many people loved it and agreed. 😉

As for myself, I don't swear. It's trashy for kids to swear imo.

I saw that video. And it was quite awesome.

I love him for that!
If I'm with friends then whatever goes.

If I'm at work then it's entirely innappropriate in whatever form (but mainly because I work with SED kids).

If I'm around the fam it's 50:50, I would never swear AT my parents but I'd swear in front of them (i.e. I would say "I hate this effing snow" but not "eff off" to them).

:]

That's pretty much how I feel. When I'm around family or friends, we curse a lot. The F word is a big no-no around everyone in my family except my mom and sister, though, so I have to watch myself with that one.
If I'm out in public I try to watch myself and not curse 'cause I don't want to offend people and some situations and places cursing is just not appropriate, such as on the job, in church, etc.

Well I don't curse if it is not appropriate, like if I am in front of my mom. She doesn't find it respectful when around parents so I never do it. I also don't do it in certain places.

I do curse though sometimes I don't realize I am doing it then I think or someone tells me and I am like whoops. This is mostly with friends.
When I have gotten in very serious altercations I have cursed I get very heated. I try not to sometimes but it still comes out.

I have no problem with it. I do think sometimes I am around people and they do it at the wrong place and time but it overall is whatever.

Does anyone other than me curse at or to their parents? In my family it's not a big deal... it's just how we communicate.

My mom laughs when I curse; so it's actually a chore to say something she wouldn't grin at.

i curse a lot in front of my parents, but i don't argue with my parents...that much...i would curse at my dad tho :-P lol
I don't usually swear much... If you compare me to my friends, or even family. But it all depends on who I'm with. I'll usually swear more often if I'm with others who do a lot too.

I don't mind people swearing around me, as long as they don't say f/$% every three words. THAT is annoying.

Hmm I'd have to say I'm kind of 50/50 when it comes to cursing. Around family members I curse A LOT. They all know it's nothing personal. Around certain friends I'll drop an F bomb here and there. I never curse at work while there are customers around. I luckily work in a place where my boss is a hick and he curses more than anyone I know, so he doesn't get upset if I curse, but it also doesn't mean it's ok at the workplace. I like to stay professional.

Here at BB though, I try not to curse lol. It gets a little hard sometimes when you have people egging you on telling you that Bangel is the way to go when CLEARLY Spuffy is true love 😉

I think there is a time and place where cursing is appropriate. I do no think that a presidential address is the time or place for that. What the presidents says when he is not addressing the public is his/her own business; but when they are addressing the nation I think it is extremely unprofessional. In all honestly, I would think less of a president if they were to curse while addressing the nation.

I noticed someone mentioned President Obama calling Kanye West a jackass...that didn't bother me because he didn't say it while addressing the nation, it was an off-the-record comment that me made while doing a television interview. The comment was leaked prematurely but Obama clearly made that comment while talking about things other than his professional work.

I cursed! I even forgot to censor myself in a rep comment so it's just ****ing. Normally, I put the first letter so everyone knows.

You put it perfectly

Yeah... Mythbusters did an experiment where they had people put their hand in ice water and hold it there until it hurt too bad... the first time they yelled "neutral" words like "cat" and "dog." The second time they yelled curse words. I think it was all but one person was able to hold their hand in the water longer when yelling curse words.
What the cat? That experiment sound like total bulldog.

no, that's actually true. Cursing is breaking a taboo which triggers an adrenaline release and adrenaline is a natural painkiller.
Who are you calling a cootie queen, you lint licker?! Pickle you, kumquat!!!

If more people would incorporate pseudo-swearing into their personal lexicon, the world would be a better place. 😛

Say, do any of you know how to curse in Elvish? I'd love to learn. 😛

Elves don't curse. Also, their farts smell of roses and they never have to wash their hair (see how Legolas' mane is still fragrant and lovely after Aragorn has completely crossed over to the bad side).
I still curse till this day..habit...i've been in trouble in school alot for my mouth back in the days...and as a kid i had a worst mouth than i do now lol....and my brothers actually followed me and have mouths on them too, but i taught them the difference from talking to friends, etc. compared to parents, etc. Along as its treated with Respect to certain people who don't wanna hear all those words I see no problem...its how you feel

It has more impact if used in context and infrequently. If used as every 4th or 5th word in a sentence as a useless adjective then it becomes meaningless.

Totally agreed. I get really irritated with people that do that. I just think it's ignorant and it's usually used by d-bags who think cursing will get you whatever you want. ie: Customers of Blockbuster.
