We have a great cast in the show. But if you had to take out one (or even more), who would it be? Who could you live without? And how would it affect the rest of the group and the show itself?

(I know, kinda a harsh question. But you can say none, that everybody's important, but please explain why).

Eve. She's one of my least favorite characters and I don't see what her purpose on the show was, other than to annoy me.

Principal Wood. He just took up time in the last season, I didn't care about him and would rather seen more of the others instead.

Absolutely yes to Eve, but I love Principal Wood.
I could live without Tara or Anya. I love them, but honestly neither one of them ever did anything so major it made me feel like I couldn't live without them.
 
In terms of who you could get rid of without it affecting the rest of the show, it would be hard to do that without the plot being messed up. Even someone like Anya who was only 'useful' every now and then was still important both for Xander's character development and for the D'Hoffryn thing. Similarly with Tara, if she wasn't in the show then Willow's confidence would have had to have come from somewhere else (though if she didn't turn gay then perhaps we wouldn't have got Kennedy, so swings and roundabouts..).

As for wanting anyone out, I wouldn't want to get rid of any of them really. I would get over it if Dawn mysteriously vanished though.

It wouldn't affect the show whatsoever. Buffy just wouldn't have had a boyfriend to ignore for a couple of seasons.

I loved Principal Wood. Maybe because I already liked DB Woodside from being such a huge 24 fan, and he definitely increased the hotness factor on BtVS. But he also seemed like a flawed hero to me, and I enjoyed his backstory.

I'm not sure if you're asking what character is expendable, or what actor.

If character, Dawn. Hated her, hated the way she was "created" out of thin air after four seasons of Buffy being an only child.

If actor, I didn't love Amber Benson. But I loved Tara, and loved Tara and Willow's relationship. I don't know - maybe nobody else could have played Tara the same. I guess I can't pick an actor that I think could be replaced.

I am SO GLAD they switched to Alyson Hanigan after the unaired pilot. Hated the original Willow; LOVE Alyson Hanigan.

Oh -- and I didn't care much for Seth Green. I would have liked to see someone better looking in that role.

I have to disagree with the Seth Green remark. I think he's adorable.
Spike, Anya, Tara, Dawn, Wood, Eve, Wesley and Fred (don't kill me! I like them but I don't need them in the show).

EDIT.

Actually, if I'm being honest, the only characters that I must have are the original Scoobies: Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles, Cordy, Oz and Angel. Could care less for everyone else.

Oz was NOT an original scooby. Even Cordy's pushing it a tad.

Eve and Graham and the majority of the Potentials. It would have altered Season 7 dramatically, but I'm not sure if that would have been a bad thing.

Oz isn't an original Scooby.
 
For me it's mostly Kennedy. *cringes* Eve and Warren as well. Jonathan...hmmm Also, I could do without Xander. *hides*

Can't help but wonder if some of you just pick the ones you don't like rather than the useless ones. But that's your decision, I'm just curious about your selections and the reasons 🙂
