There's been a lot of Spike Vs. Angel lately....so who is it? Who's meant to be with Buffy? Who's the one you think she'd choose out of the two? Lets hear it! :cheering:

Thanks for being optimistic Summerlilly, but I think this little "fight" of ours is never going to end. Some of us think Angel is her soulmate (count me there), some of us think Spike is, there are few people who are cheering for Riley, and there are some who think Slayer is always going to be alone.
For me it's always going to be Angel. You know all of my reasons if you have read my posts in threads like this. If that is not enough I don't know what is because I don't have anymore words. And I can't explain with words how I feel when I see them together, because that is a feeling so strong. Because of them I belive, not only in love, I belive in life. And I think we all need that. So I am Bangel, and I am proud of it 😀

I know this question has been fought out to the death before. I was more directing it at newbies who may not have voiced there opinion yet and could bring something new to the table....in a peacful way of course. 🙂

I've always been for Buffy & Angel, so I'm going to say she's meant to be with Angel. I don't dispute that Buffy loves/loved Spike, but it seemed that what she and Angel shared (and still shared) is so true and deep. To me, they're the very definition of soul mates. Besides, Angel was Buffy's first love, you never ever really get over your first love.

Why do you think she's supposed to be with Angel? And Why would you vote for Spike rather then Angel...or even Riley?

I'm not sure I can put it into words. Buffy and Angel were basically meant to be. There was so much love on both sides. But there were so few happy times when they were with eachother. Plus, now don't hate me for this, their relationship kind of bored me, it was far too dragged out. Buffy even said herself in the last one (I forget what it's called, sorry) "What was the high point of our relationship? When you broke up with me or when I killed you?".

I'm probably more pro-Spuffy because I have a real soft spot for Spike. So I'm bias. But I think they'd have been happier. Angel would have just depressed her (and everyone else) till she eventually died. Then he would have whinged some more.

Don't get me wrong though, I like Angel. And I enjoyed the Buffy-Angel relationship while it lasted. But I prefered both of them so much more when they were apart.

She'd have had a better life with Spike. But of course, thats just my opinion. 🙂

I'm almost torn between Spike and Angel. I never used to be. Just lately I've been considering Angel's relationship with Buffy, and I think their love for one another is very strong. Angel's always there for her when she needs comfort, like at Joyce's funeral. He's also there for the last episode and they kiss, which is nice because it kind of shows that Bangel was there from the beginning to the end. Spike's love for her is just so much more interesting, though. While Bangel is solid, Spuffy is wild and spontaneous and exciting. Spike is and always has been my favourite character, and I love watching him grow over the seasons into the person he is on AtS s5. So, I don't know... for me, it'll always be Spuffy, but I think both work in different ways.

Personally I would put Angel and Cordy together, but I would be happy to see Angel and Buffy end up together. I think they needed time apart, and to gain some more life experience. Angel needed to become more human, and Buffy needed to become more of a champion, I think they are the best of both sides now, and would be a great couple, something I didn't see when they were together, but now I can.

I really couldn't agree more. Your completely right. Bangel really was ever so slightly dull. Just a bit. But Spuffy was so much better to watch. Spike challenged her a lot more than Angel did. That's what made their relationship so interesting. Spike was a match for Buffy, they played off of eachother well.

Angel and Cordy....I felt for them towards the end of the series and I really believe Cordy played a vital role in Angel's life but having watched Buffy from season one there's just no way they could have really worked out. I think Angel had a lot of love for her but he could never be IN love with her like he was with Buffy.

I've always loved both Spuffy and Bangel but deep down I'd have to say I'm a Bangel lover. There were so many great things that Spike brought out in Buffy but there was also the screwed up frenemy/user relationship that wasn't healthy.

Not say Bangel is perfect....but if I could ask Buffy who she would choose I think she would choose Angel. Spike holds a dear place in her heart and they grew very close but Angel is her one true love. In his own way he's always been there for her and always told her how much he loved her. Spike played a lot of mind games with her.... and often wanted to kill her!

They had an attraction from the very beginning that was so strong and as far as we know it's still there even though they can't be together. Buffy can love Spike, but in my opinion she'll never love him like Angel. And Spike knows that. Same goes for Riley.

Summerlilly I agree with you. I also belive Spike helpped her so much, to figure out some things, especially in season 7, but I do belive Angel is her true love. He loved Angel, Riley and Spike all in defferent way. But she loved them. But that's it, I think she's never gonna stop loving Angel.

Well, in the Jossverse, we all know the chances we have of seeing a loving relationship last. And in the real world, I don't believe in meant to be. For love to grow out of falling in love, a lot of little jigsaw pieces need to fall into place. I don't believe that Buffy is meant to be with anyone. But if Joss decided to give it a go, I think both the relationship with Angel and the relationship with Spike could mature into something worth keeping. (Not at the same time, though. She'd have to make a choice. And honestly "“ if she were given a real chance to work things out with Angel, I think she would take it.)

I have to agree with miromurr here; I don't think Buffy is destined to be with anyone either. It seems that with every single couple in the show, Joss presents it and takes it away -- Xander and Anya (with the cancellation of their wedding and then the death of Anya,) Xander and Cordelia (cheating,) Tara and Willow (Tara being shot,) Willow and Oz (Oz sleeping with another girl,) Buffy and Spike (he didn't have a soul, then he did have a soul, then he "died",) Buffy and Angel (turns evil during true happiness, which seems to involve Buffy) etc.

However, who Buffy is meant to be with and my favorite ship are two totally different things. I've always been rooting for Spuffy.

I have always thought that Buffy is a terrible girlfriend in a certain way. If you think about it, Angel, Riley and Spike by the end of their 'relationships' were not doing so well.

Angel was even more withdrawn than usual and barely capable of functioning as a real person in Angel S1

Riley was obviously all screwed up visiting such as vampire bordellos and such.

Spike, once a complete punk rock hardass, had been reduced to a whimpering dude in a basement and then a love starved puppy following her around.

What happens though is that after these guys get away from the circle of Buff they become WAY better men for the experience. Angel and Spike after getting some time away from Buffy become honest to goodness Champions and it looks like Riley is headed that way in S8.

In conclusion, it's no fun being her boyfriend but you become a hell of a man afterwards!

So that all being said I'm going to vote for the one guy who stuck with her, got his emotional beat down, came back for more, got some more, came back again and finally figured out that someone has to fix these windows. Yes that's right, Xander is the man for our girl. Plus he looks like such a hardass in the S8 comics all Nick Fury and such.

I agree. I mean, she's trying to save the world and prevent apocalypses basically every other day. How can she have time to work through relationships (which seem to almost be troubled from the start?)

Of course. Characters only find happiness when the shows are over, right? But, the idea that Buffy isn't actually meant to be with anyone is a good point...because in reality she is the slayer and the slayer will always be alone.

It's more like if we could haave our perfect story with love and happiness for everyone who would she end up with?

I kind of always felt that Angel was too old for Buffy. Not in an actual age way, but I found him to be a bit patronising and he always called the shots in their relationship, and Buffy had to play by his rules. With Spike, on the other hand, I felt that the two were equals and (eventually) treated each other as such. They had a rappor which Angel was unable to match.

I believe everyone has a first true love. Angel was Buffy's. They tried to make it work but in the end couldn't. In life I believe one needs more than just love to make a relationship work. I don't think Buffy and Angel tried enough. Especially Angel, he put the towel in really quick. I prefer Spike for Buffy. They have been through so much together. Spike did a complete turn around for her. Not only that but when he didn't have a soul...he still loved her. He wanted to be a person she could love. Angel left her...broken. Honestly though Buffy has been through so much. I think she needs to work on her before she can be with anyone. When she does, she should go for Spike. He knows exactly why he loves her. Angel just kind made moon eyes at her and bossed her around. Here is the Spike quote that really won me over for Spike.

"When I say I love you, it's not because I want you, or because I can't have you - it has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try... I've seen your kindness, and your strength, I've seen the best and the worst of you and I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy."~ Spike
