I can't tell who loved her more because I can see everything Angel and Spike did in two sides. You can think Spike went to get his soul back because he's selfish so he wanted to be accepted OR he did it because he loved Buffy. You can think Spike loved her with or without soul OR it was just lust. You can think Angel loved Buffy just because of his soul OR the soul thing doesn't matter. But the only thing I know is, Angel leaving Sunnydale is the right thing to do. He gave Buffy her future. I can't see this fact in two sides.

So my vote goes for Angel. But if there was an 'I don't care' choice. I'd be the first who choose that.

well said :) i totally agree
We all have our opinions. Who loved her more or who she loved more? I am Bangel fan because I am a true romantic and whole this thing with Spike was creepy for me. And some of you have this theory that Spike loved her more because he got a soul for her. Let's look at this one more time. If Spike didn't had that chip in his head he would never spend so much time with her and he would never fall in love with her. He never gave up on her but I think she needed a break. Every time Buffy slept with a guy (Parker and Riley) she waked up all scared because Angel wasn't there when she waked up. He left. He left twice. Because that was wright thing to do. Let's face it..we'll never agree who loved her more.

I think Spike was there for here when she got back from heaven. He was the one thing that was close to her.But when she got back, when Angel called, she went. She left all behind her and left to meet him.Our first love. That is nice. But I think Angel is much much more. You know she is not like you and me.She is one special girl and he is one special dead boy.I mean look at her..she is the slayer, the chosen one,she killed the man she love and then he returned from hell.He returned, saved her life and then hugged her.Angel is Angel..not her first boyfriend,he is love of her life.

I'm sorry, but I do not agree with this at all.

How can you say that just because Buffy didn't enjoy Parker or Riley, that meant that Angel loved her more? That makes absolutely no sense. Nor is you saying that he saved her life... when did this happen after season two?

Also about Spike getting a soul because of his chip... while I agree that, yeah, he got to know her because he spent more time with her, he actually didn't spend much time with her at all in season four. It was in season five that he persued her.

Are you people crazy? Angel loved her more. He left her. Do you people know how hard is that? How hard is to leave the person you love because it's right thing to do. Love is selfish. And you do selfish things. He fought that. He lost her. He had to live without her every single day. When he was around she could felt him. They kissed every time he came back. That is love. She loved Spike. But I think she wasn't in love with him. And he knew that. But Angel loved her all the way and he did the right thing. He left her only because he had to.

I've got disagree with you on that, and just because Angel left her it didn't mean he loved her more. And like some people have responded, Buffy and Angel was just an average high school relationship. And it makes no sense how you said that Buffy loved Spike but she wasn't in love with him.

Why does one of them have to prove something by one or the other loving her more? How about they both loved her? Possibly in different but equally intense ways?

I'm neither a Bangel or Spuffy but a few thoughts crossed my mind.

As hard as it may be to process, kids, Bangel was just high school love. Buffy was sixteen years old when she "fell in love" with Angel. It ended after high school ended, just like most high school relationsips do in real life.

Bangel was high school love because of Buffy. She was 16 but I don't really see how that affects the love Angel had for her. He wasn't 16 in any way. He gave her up twice. Doesn't feel like the typical high school break up to me.

The discussion about soulless Spike loving Buffy more than Angelus is a bit funny. The show go on and on about how a vampire isn't the same as the "real" person (= with a soul). That it's two different people. But since it suits your purpose you decide that in this discussion they should be seen as one. Soulless Spike might have loved Buffy (thanks to a chip. It wasn't love at first) more than Angelus but the comparision doesn't feel very fair. Even if I can "hear" the argument that being able to love her even when being soulless shows that he loved her more coming on. 😉

Because people love to discuss and to be "right". That they both loved her I think everyone agrees on.

I apparentley am crazy because I believe Spike loved her more than Angel did.

While unsouled, Spike loved Buffy unrelentlessly. Angel attempted numerous times to kill her friends and family members, and even succeeded once. Not to mention the numerous times Angel(us) has threatened Buffy. His obsession was sick. Moreso than Spike's attempted rape, which HE DIDN'T EVEN FOLLOW THROUGH WITH. I am NOT saying that rape is the answer to anything, but he didn't know what to do in that situation. He was only used to force, especially since Buffy has always maintained a physical relationship with him.

What Angel did was FAR worse. He was more than ten years older than Buffy when they had sex. In a sense, he DID rape her. He raped her of her innocence, and there was no indication that Buffy even wanted to have sex before it happened.

Ok, first off, Daniel, you know I like you and enjoy talking to you, so don't take this the wrong way - I know you won't though 🙂

High school love doesn't mean it is in anyway inferior to an 'adult' love. I have to deal with this attitude all the time because I've been with my partner since I was fifteen years old. Obviously, now that we're both 20, our relationship did not just end when high school did. Just because it's high school and you're relatively young does not mean that you can't meet the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.

A 'high school love' isn't average, at all. There is nothing average about experiencing love for the first time and growing up/maturing with that person, so that five years later you can still be together because you've grown together. And I don't think I'm an exception either. I know a lot of people, both my age and older who are now married and have children with those 'average high school' loves of theirs 😉

Like I said previously in the thread, not everyone sees soulless Spike's feelings towards as Buffy as love. I certainly don't. Following someone around, making other partners play sex games pretending to the person you 'love' and secretly sniffing their clothes just doesn't sum up love for me, I'm afraid. It sums up CREEPY. 😛
In the nicest way possible, I still cannot believe that Spike's attempted rape of Buffy is being defended. Especially by those of you who think that Spike loved her presoul. This is the time when you should be pulling out the 'he doesn't have a soul' card. You are free to say that Angel's obsession was also slightly 'sick', as I've got older I can understand why it could be seen that way, even though I don't agree, but you can't say that and then act as if Spike's feelings were all fluffy and lovely. The fact that he didn't go through with the rape is absolutely besides the point. He wanted to, and I think he would 100% have done it, if Buffy hadn't managed to fight him off. I've said this several times before, but a kinky, aggressive, violent consenting sex life is NOT the same as rape and it in no way entitled Spike to try to do it. Buffy maintaining a physical sexual relationship with him, where she played mind games with him and says things like 'this isn't going to happen' and then sleep with him, is so very far from begging him to stop, like she did in 'Seeing Red'.

And this is where I really don't want to mean but the stuff about Angel...WHAT?! lol

No indication?! Of course there was! That whole thing 'I like seeing you in the morning' and the conversation with Willow about the fact Buffy wanted and was going to have sex with him?! He was also way more then 10 years older than her 😛 He didn't rape her of her innocence, she had reached a point in her life when she was in the perfect position to lose that innocence and become an adult, to which she wholeheartedly consented to. This is really not a good way to try and defend Spike's actions in 'Seeing Red'.

Even I can see how both of their obsessions with Buffy can be interpreted as strange and unconventional but you can't say those things about Angel and not recognise them in Spike, when for me they are much, much more obvious.

And...I think I'm done for now. 😛

Why you still compare souled Angel to soulless Spike? Keeping doing that only makes less on Angel

(Same to you. 😛)

I believe that you were in love in high school, but you have to admit that more often than not... high school relationships are usually over by graduation day. Moreso these days. I know all of my brothers have had a "serious" high school relationship, which even consisted of talking of marriage and so forth. But because of some reason, all three were broken off. My cousin, who graduated with his high school girlfriend, is now in college with her, so I can definitely see that some do last.

Moving on to the debate, I was not defending rape, whatsoever. What Spike did was inexcusable. But, the way Buffy played with his mind, and used him to feel good about herself, was also wrong. Spike was doing to Buffy what Buffy usually did to him. Obviously Spike is stronger than Buffy, so his force was multiplied. I know it SOUNDS like I'm defending him, but you have to know that I disagree 100 % completely with rape or any kind of forced sex, as shown in "Seeing Red."

Onto Angel. Okay, you're right. I haven't watched Buffy in like a year, so I forgot some stuff. STILL. Angel, who's human age was like 28, right? Anyway, a 28 year old man sleeping with a 16 year old girl. You think that is right? I know they loved each other, but Angel could have waited. At least until they were 18. (I know, Xander, Willow, and Faith all had sex when they were like 17/18, but they were also the same age.)

She was 17 :p and 16's legal so I don't think it was that bad!
I don't want to get you mad that is only my opinion.Well he saved her in the ep. Beauty and the Beast when that guy, I forgot his name, went mad. I'm true Bangel fan you know. I don't know why I think what I think. I just do. When I look at Buffy and Angel I think I want to be her just to have guy like him. When she is with Spike I dont't see that.

ubi4soft disagrees: Why you still compare souled Angel to soulless Spike? Keeping doing that only makes less on Angel

I wasn't trying to compare them straight off. I was confronting the points that Daniel had made in his post about Spike and Angel. The events we were discussing where when Spike was soulless and Angel wasn't...

I'm just going to jump in here. I think Spike loved Buffy more then Angel. Spike went through so much to try to get as close to Buffy as he could. He went and got a soul for her. He even accepted that she didn't love him and still continued to stay by her side to assist her in any way he could. Granted he did get a bit obsessed at one point and took it too far. But he really truly loved her. Angel moved onto Cordelia and then to the Werewolf girl in season 5. Obviously he didn't love her enough if he was able to move on. Spike never moved on from Buffy. He was still set on trying to be with her.

Agreed. Both Buffy and Angel moved on from each other, while Buffy and Spike really haven't had a "relationship" since what happened in "Chosen."

I think its kinda unfair to say that just because Angel moved on to experiencing relationships with other females means he loved Buffy any less than Spike. Or, for that matter that because Spike wouldn't let go, he loved her any more than Angel did.

Just because you can't let go of someone and continue to follow them around when you know you're not getting anywhere, can sometimes suggest a lot more about obsession and desperation than love itself.

Angel had to face facts that during the seven seasons of Buffy and the five of AtS, there was a not a time when it was right for him and Buffy to be together. So what should have done? Spent all that time moping and brooding over her? Cos I get the impression that if the shoe was on the other foot, and it was Angel who had never moved on and behaved like Spike did, then he'd be slated for it; considering Angel already gets a lot of stick for being 'broody' and 'boring' etc...

And I still argue with the notion that Spike got a soul for her. He got a soul for himself. It was selfish and about him, not her.

I'll try in simple propositions, to make it simple (english is not my first language).

Angel choose to stay a cursed vampire, fight against evil and look/try to make amends for his past (instead of Buffy).

Spike totally changed his evil nature for Buffy (to be a kind of man that will never hurt her again) and in Chosen died for her.

So, who loved her more: the one who stayed away or the one who died for Buffy?

For me? The one who stayed away.

Angel did what he did for Buffy, not for himself. I don't think that Spike did what he did with the best intentions. He didn't do all that for, essentially he did it for himself. He did it so that he could become someone Buffy might love.

In Chosen maybe he did finally let this go and do it for 'the greater good' but I don't see that in other parts of the series. He didn't want Buffy to have the life she wanted, he wanted her to want to have him. He didn't put Buffy and what she wanted first, it was always about him.

So, for me, the one who puts the person they love before themselves shows a greater love for that person.

So, for me, the one who puts the person they love before themselves shows a greater love for that person.

Totally agree with that! Spike died for Buffy!

I guess we'll have to agree we disagree. I'm OK with that.

You know when you love someone that person becomes part of you.And sometimes life is not fair.Sometimes we have to do the hard choice only because it's right. But when we truly love someone we never let them go.We just learn how to hide that love deep inside because we know that feeling will eat us alive.Someday we will look back on that moments with smile on our faces. So I don't think Buffy moved on.I don't think Angel moved on.You never move on.You never forget.Everytime you remember something,it hits you like a big ball of fire.It burns.Them are not like you and me,they have life that is hard, but love is love. It's on of a kind.I'm not saying that Spike did not loved Buffy or that she didn't loved him.I just think that's not it.She said herself that she doesn't see herself with Spike in the future. And you people are talking about how Angel had sex with Buffy when she was only 17?Hello people,he is a vampire. We can't talk with sense about that.
Buffy once said: "I killed Angel.Do you even remember that?I would've given up everything I had to be with-I loved him more than I will ever love anything in this life and I put a sword through his heart because I had to."
You know we are very different people and we see love how we wan't it to see. Some of us see love in the form of Spuffy and some of us in the for of Bangel.I grow up with Buffy and first love I saw was between her and Angel. And I respect that.

I don't think Spike died for her. They didn't knew what's going to happen. He died for the world, not just for her.

Totally agree with that! Spike died for Buffy!

I think Spike died for more than just Buffy. He sacrificed himself for everyone. But even if it was just for Buffy, I think that's the only time he's ever put her before himself, whereas I think Angel always had Buffy's best interests at heart, if you see what I mean?

And I'm ok with agreeing to disagree too. It's part of what we do round here, as long as its all in good nature 🙂

I think alot of people, including me think spiked loved buffy simply(but not solely) because of the fact that he was on the show longer and the courtship, if you'd call it that, lasted way longer.
