Who was more annoying: Kennedy or Riley?

Kennedy. A thousand times Kennedy.

I think Kennedy is nothing but a spoiled brat. At least with Riley while he didn't have much depth to him was at
least good at his job while I cant say anything that good about Kennedy.

The problem with both of them was they were created almost for the sole intention of being an opposite to Angel and Tara. But I never felt like Riley was a writing mistake. I actually appreciate Riley on rewatchs, their relationship at least served a purpose in developing Buffy's character. Whereas Kennedy feels rushed, their relationship and her character. There seems to be almost no redeeming features to her since being opposite of Tara makes a bitch. That in itself, the simplicity of her just being an opposite, was dumb. I thought Willow could have grieved for longer too.

Yeah I don't like Kennedy, even after rewatching the show countless times and trying to give her and the situation a fair chance. I can't.

I agree with you on that. At least with Riley you got something from it in that Riley was someone normal while with Kennedy I got nothing from her
but the fact that she was used to getting what she wanted . I don't hate her as much as seeing nothing much good in her .

Willow would never had gotten her confidence back and she would have been mopey and listless all season if not for Kennedy. Kennedy was integral to the solution of the problem, as she was the one (if I am not mistaken) that convinced Willow she could 'drain' the scythe and it would be alright. She provided something to Willow that Tara never could- white magic. The worst part of Kennedy, in my opinion, was the actress. You put someone with a little more talent in the role and it would be different. On paper- ie the scripts- the character feels completely different than portrayed on the screen.

I don't think either Riley or Kennedy were annoying; Andrew, Dawn, half the time Xander, Anya... they were annoying.

When you look at the role then yes that different . But the way she was acted left me feeling empty like not having a full meal.

I got that with most the actors on Buffy though, honestly.
Riley, for sure.

I don't get the level of Kennedy hate. Sure she wasn't my favorite, but she wasn't so bad. I think it's just that she wasn't Tara.

Anyanka Bunny Slayer
Anyanka Bunny Slayer
Yes...she wasn't Tara AND she talked too much. Grrr.
I don't think that it. She seemed too much unlike Tara . Which means she was annoying. She could have been anti Tara & still been nice but she didnt.

Kennedy is the most annoying to me for the reasons you would think. Riley is the #1 Buffy character that I like but everybody else hates. But back to Kennedy, she is my example of what people think is a strong female character but doesn't feel like it. It just bugs to see her get all these privileges handed to her like being in the Scoobies' meetings and training the Potentials. I know some of you may say she's very competent and had a lot of experience, but I don't think she does anything to prove it. The writers seem more interested in having her boast about herself than actually having her do something. And I don't think she fits in with the Scoobies because they're all outsiders and she seems very happy with herself and her life. Plus her relationship with Willow 😡 It doesn't make a difference to me if she helped Willow because their total lack of chemistry.

But if I have anything nice to say about her is this: one, I like how in Get It Done, despite ridiculing Willow's magic, she finally understood how serious Willow's problem is and how it can affect other people in a bad way. And two, in Chosen, I felt Kennedy was acting more encouraging to Willow.

I agree with you on Kennedy . We know nothing about her except she gay & always gets what she wants . And to have Willow fall for her was just weirld .
But she did help out Willow I give her that. I just don't think she had to be going out with Willow to do so like it was in the series.

Riley was annoying but at least you knew where he was coming from.

& always gets what she wants

People say that a lot, but why is that a problem? Kennedy liked Willow, and hit on her, so what? She was good at leadership, so she took the role for herself (training the Potentials), good for her. Later, she built a successful business, and now she is fighting evil. Much worse was Faith with her "Want, take, have".

The thing I dislike was they gave too little of Kennedy in S7 & wanted us to think Willow fell for her .
She was a whole lot better in the comics but on TV I felt nothing for her .

With you on Riley. What kind of psych major has no idea that if you are an alpha male, you don't try to get together with an alpha female? There can only be one alpha in a relationship.

This is a rather simple view of romantic relationship. Alpha male, alpha female - just get the puzzle pieces right and you are good to go? Mutual attraction is rather more complicated than that. Of course, if one person wants to dominate and the other wants to be dominated, that is all fine and dandy. I don't think that either Riley or Buffy wanted to play the rôle of the relationship alpha in the long run, though. Riley was rattled by the way he was no match for Buffy's strength, yes, but that doesn't mean that he wanted to dominate her.

I don't like Kennedy because I don't like rich, manipulative spoiled brats - all of which she called herself.

Whereas I have a soft spot for Kennedy because I can be entertained by rich, manipulative spoiled brats in fiction.

(...)Kennedy, she is my example of what people think is a strong female character but doesn't feel like it. It just bugs to see her get all these privileges handed to her like being in the Scoobies' meetings and training the Potentials. A bit more showing and a bit less telling wouldn't have gone amiss.

Willow needed sex and since Kennedy was already slavering over her...any port in a storm.

Actually, I've grown to understand Riley a bit. After repeated viewings of my Buffy set, I kind of like him.

But Kennedy makes me want to scream. She's the only Buffyverse character that I completely DESPISE.

I will echo some of the general sentiments I've seen here already, basically that the difficulty with these two characters is it's hard to separate them from their relationships because they were both basically written for the purpose of providing rebound romance. Therefore if you don't like them in their respective ships, it's hard to appreciate them alone. When I was younger on my first viewing I hated both, as I've matured and rewatched the series I've come to appreciate them a bit more (although you still won't catch me listing them as a favorite). I think just personality wise, Kennedy would be considered more annoying as she is inherently more in your face and probably likely to rub you the wrong way. But I also think a lot of the extreme hate is more or less unnecessary. /shrugs
