Why does everyone like Fred so much?

Angel said. It's exactly that. Exactly. At the beginning, at least.

I know I'm just a sucker for tiny girls who talk nonsense and are cute and adorable (Cassie from Skins, Cassie Cassie Cassie). Fred is the perfect example for that, at the beginning. "Handsome man, saved me from the monsters". I could go on and on and on and on about this very sentence. It's about how Fred is scared but did survive through all of this anyway. We can see how strong she can be on her own in AS4 when she's the only one who knows the truth about Jasmine. She rocked. She didn't know it but she rocked, and the fact she ignored it made her rock all better (more than Cordelia, Angel, etc. who kinda knew they rocked).

Ok now the "nice" factor. The girl's ADORABLE. I mean when Cordy was named Queen "They didn't do that for me... That's... nice for her." > how not to love her ?! She was this strong girl who always knew how to take care of others ("Is water okay ? Or do you want some blood ?" : I mean, COME ON! Could she BE any nicer?).

And she knew when to rebel when she had to. Against Connor. Against Jasmine. Against Wesley. She always knew, she was nice but not easily influenced, and that's something I respect more than most other things.

Plus, huh, smart ass ?! Need I talk about "Fredless" ? Or, once again, the Jasmine episodes ? Or everything ?

She was a woman. In the end, she really was. A strong, grown-up woman who knew how to be sexy, how to be firm, how to be nice, who was smart...

Besides... Amy Acker ? Most beautiful woman on Earth. Seriously. Period.

Amy Acker is simply an amazing actress...I think that's why I'm so fond of Fred. When I found out Amy was on Dollhouse I almost did a number in my pants...and she was excellente in Alias. 🙂

Actually, I love her acting in "Angel". Like love-love. She's simply amazing, especially when she plays Illyria (the best being when she plays Illyria while looking like Fred, it's great, I have no word to describe it, I need to go learn synonyms of "amazing"). I liked her a whole lot on "Private Practice" too. But as far as her Alias part is concerned, I'm not that sure. It must be due to bad writing though (Alias S5? Not that bright.), but I feel she didn't totally grasp her character. Since then I believe she may still have a thing or two to learn, but hey, who doesn't ? Besides, I really think it was about the writing of the show, they didn't know what to do with her so I think she was a bit confused... In the beginning of the season she was great and after that, it's like her interest for the show was decreasing (just like mine)... I don't know.

Fred brought to the world the notion of "Kyrumption". How could anyone not love her ?! Seriously, I love this character so much I cannot begin to explain it and I cannot understand people who hate her. I'm not saying I don't respect their opinion, of course I do, I just don't get it ! =)
 
I thought Fred's character was okay. I liked the whole FRED/WES pairing off.

There are parts that irritated me about her.

I never like the whole idea of Fred/Gunn pairing. I couldn't stand it. It was really boring watching them two. Also, they had no chemistry at all and took way too long for it too end. Gunn was just a roadblock between WES and FRED from the start.

From beginning of the 5th season, she keeps mentioning Knox, as if he so great in her life. Shoving Knox's name in front of Wes's face.

Then toward close to the end of 5th season, on Smile Time, she was hinting to Wes that she wants to be with him and doesn't understand why Wes doesn't get the hint. Wes doesn't get the hint because that idiot, Knox's name, keeps popping up from her.

Then FRED/WES hooks up. FINALLY.

And the two roadblocks that conflicted with Wes/Fred relationship was Gunn and Knox and both were responsible for Fred's death. Knox was fully responsible with her death. Gunn was partially responsible for her death. I know Gunn didn't intentionally mean to kill Fred. But he knew something bad was going to happen.

Being with Gunn and kicking Wes to the side and shoving Knox's name in front of Wes and kicking Wes some more.

I felt more bad for Wes finally getting the woman of his dreams, Fred, and then watches and feels her die in his arms than her death itself. She finally realizes that Wes is the one for her but it's already too late. The two men destroyed Wes/Fred relationship.
 
I like Fred so much because I was her.
When she first appeared on Angel I was pretty much as crazy as her so I really related.
I don't really know why everyone else apparently likes her so much. I just seem to like crazy people. 😛

I've been lookin for words to explain, but I completely gotta agree on yours!
There's something humoristic and soft about her character which is very refreshing. I love the bit where she comes out of her room for the first time and there's huge fight going on and angel tells her to get back in her room.
It's well funny.
I also like the transformation into Illiryia though I have been grieving in the series for her death. It's so sad!

And totally have to agree on the beautiful part as well.
She's soooo pretty 🙂

I love her (especially after she was around for a few episodes and they toned down the crazy a bit), but I guess I can see the point that someone mentioned about her not bringing anything particularly special to the team (because they already had Wesley's intellect for the research). However, you could say this about Gunn and Lorne as well. Gunn was brought in as the muscle, but clearly Angel (a vampire) is a lot stronger than Gunn, so why would they need to pay for muscle aside from what Gunn could bring to the show as a character? And Lorne was good for a reading now and then, but it seemed like the writers weren't sure how he fit into the group as a regular either. He wasn't a fighter by any means.

I think no one would care about any of this though, except that Angel Investigations was supposed to be a business and these people were getting paid. Compare them with the Scooby Gang, for instance. Xander and Willow literally had no skills to bring to the table when they first befriended Buffy. Anya spent most of her time in the group making comment about money or having sex with Xander, rather than actually truly fighting demons. And Dawn suffered from a terrible illness Doctors call Kim Bauer disease, where someone just gets in trouble and needs to be saved constantly.

I really liked Fred, much more than Cordy. I just loved the kinda person she was, and she was really hot. She might not have brought *that* much importance from the group, but she brought just as much as Cordy, Gunn and Lorne. Angel and Wes were the key players(like buffy n giles) and the rest were solid as a unit.

Well, Cordy's visions made her essential to the group, but at the time she joined AI, she really wasn't bringing anything special to the table.
 
Thats what i mean. Cordy got visions, Lorne read auras and Gunn could fight. Freds overall skills were just as important. And at least Fred and Gunn had to earn what they brought. I still say Angel and Wes were the big dogs in that gang though.

I don't really understand it. Granted, she's witty and cute and all, but she's so, I dunno, she's not special or mysterious, and still I can't identify with her. I just feel nothing at all with her. Not even poisonous hatred (as with, say, Dawn. Just kidding. I don't hate her that much ^^) I guess it's not Amy's fault in the sense that she plays her badly, there's just something wrong, in my opinion, with the way her character was written.
Now I have to say, I haven't watch all Angel episodes yet, so maybe she will have to dawn on me, but I have seen quite a lot episodes with her already

Unlike the rest of AI, she contributed to the team just because she wanted to do good. Gunn, while a hero before, he joined AI so he wouldn't have to eat garbage anymore and watch his buddies die. Wesley had little choice since he was raised to battle evil. Angel was atoning. And Cordy was burdened with the visions.

Fred didn't have to fight, she chose to.

Well, to be fair, Cordy chose to help long before she had visions (though still perhaps not for the most noble of reasons).
Fred is just everything i want to be!! Smart, cute and Funny!!

I find for me personally she makes the series more enjoyable, she counter-acts the inevitable brooding from Angel with her light and bubbly personah!! It's just something different and refreshing!

It also doesnt hurt that Amy Acker is the most beautiful woman in the world.
 
It's hard for me to explain, but she's just about the coolest. Plus she's just so adorable... I mean, yeah, she's just adorable.

I guess for me it was just an instant thing that I never quite tried to justify or explain: I saw her, I loved her.
 
Ok, gather round, kids.
Fred is my favorite character. First it was Willow. Now it's not. Why? Willow was stubborn and gave in to magics that made her the ultimate evil. She's still on my list of favorites, but Fred is way up higher. Fred has never once acted in a way to compromise the lives of anyone of her friends. Except for wanting to send Seidel away, which, dude had it coming. She's super smart, and adorable, and dorky in the best possible way. She was truly the most unique, and had her own way of going about anything. She put everyone above herself, she gave Spike a chance, made him a priority.
She's very tough, she survived five years in an alternate dimension, she was smart enough to disable the collar.
She was willing to spend all her energy trying to find a solution to the whole Illyria taking over her body problem.
She was better than being taken by a monster flu, and she knew it.
I could rant, but I don't wanna start a huge debate about how Fred is way more awesome than everyone else.
And yes, Q-Tip, she was hot. 😀

To me Fred is everything pure, beautiful and in my opinion a mix of Xander and Willow. I still get teary knowing Fred is simply dead & gone 🙁

I completely agree... I was just about to say that just like Xander is the heart of the Scoobies, Fred is the heart of Angel Investigations. Even though she never had any sort of special strength or super power, she helped in whatever way she could because she chose to. Plus she was just so damn cute with her nerdy adorableness. 🙂 And then in the later seasons when she matured into a woman from a girl, she was just kick-ass. 🙂

Took the words outta my hands.... erm yeah, this is happening a lot with VHers atm.

Center human who isn't perfect and grows as a character is what makes her (and Xander) awesome. They are adorkable.
 
I liked Fred because of her intelligence. She was cute and funny. I really loved her dynamic with Wesley and how Fred was smart in other ways from him. She was just a really interesting character. When she was mad and being evil that was just cool. 😀
