Will you watch the movie?

I will definitely watch it. One way or another. If it's good fine, is it crap I'll enjoy bashing it and telling everyone how much it's not like the show. Because lets face it, if the movie sucks it make people think the show does too. And if it's good it can make people watch the show which in the end can be a good thing. Although if the movie is indeed very different people might not like the show because they expect it to be something else. But getting people to watch the show can't be a bad thing right? Or will we start to hate or at least like it less if that happens since we want it to be or special thing that's not for everyone?

Yes, I'd much rather have Joss involved. Yes, I'd like the old actors/actresses back. But that won't happen and I'm not gonna bash this movie just because it lacks those things. It can still end up good. But no, I won't see it as canon. But I really don't care. None canon stuff can be enjoyable.

Is it actually confirmed then? There IS going to be a movie, not just rumours?

Anyway, I will definately go see it. In the same way that I enjoyed the comics where Joss had no say, I see this being no different. Interestingly, there are plenty of ideas from these non-Joss buffy comics where Joss has decided to use them (the flying fish comes to mind), i see this as no different. As long as the people who make the movie really do watch the show and understand the characters, then good luck to 'em.

OKAY!
It seems to me that some of the people who say they aren't gonna watch it, are doing it to be "loyal" to Joss Whedon and not because they are uninterested in the movie.

That's certainly my main reason, although I don't see the need for quotation marks around the word loyal.

But even assuming that Joss really isn't bothered by it, and even assuming the movie won't damage the canonical Buffy...

If a complete stranger empties out a can of Coke, re-fills it with some random liquid, and asks you to buy it... will you say "Why should I?" or will you say "Hmm. I don't know what this is, but it says Coke on the can and I really like Coke."

That's really the way I see this.

But, 88% of you are going to see the movie, so I hope you do enjoy it. Might as well.

Those characters are not going to be in this movie. The producers have said they're specifically avoiding referencing anything Joss did with the TV show. (Which they couldn't do anyway unless they partnered with Fox.)

But that is how the TV show was for me.. for the first season it looked like Buffy but was nothing like Buffy at all. But I suffered thru it because I liked the Buffy movie and by the end of the first season I realized it had nothing at all to do with the movie. And, for the most part, was not supposed to!

I just do not see where a reboot is any different than that. The whole Buffyverse changed from movie to TV, now it changes again. Big deal. I dont understand the outrage.

I'll see it but whether or not I see it in theaters is wholly dependent on whether or not my bank account is cruising towards the negative end of the spectrum that month. Also a bit dependent on the trailer. I's careful with my monies.

I'm not outraged anymore. Just resigned, a little bit sad, and puzzled over why people consider a movie worth seeing just because it has the same title as a TV show they liked.

I realize that Buffy is just another piece of intellectual property, but she means more to me than that and I have trouble coming to terms with such a cynical money-grab by people who played no part creatively in making her what she is.

I think the majority of people that will watch this will be doing it mainly out of curiosity

Title has really not much to do with it for me, personally speaking, but the idea it is darker and maybe more of the prototypical genre than the 'comedy' the first one was; I would rather it be called Buffy, have a different cast and be darker, than have it be called something OTHER than Buffy and evident it was clearly inspired by the character. I would see it if it said or did not say Buffy, but at least paying homage, if only in the title, to the original would be a nice bonus.

I mean really.. if they can do [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Pride-Prejudice-Zombies-Classic-Ultraviolent/dp/1594743347"]this[/ame] then having a different slant on Buffy is not really that big of a deal.

Props to Kali for the heads-up on the novel.

Good point about the title - I never thought of it that way. :)
yeah i def wanna watch it but gonna be gutted about the cast being different and joss not being involved but i wana see how it turns out.

Since I am still totally in love the shows Buffy & Angel and I think that there wasnt 1 person who I would want to recast I dont think this movie will be great for me. However I will watch it out of curiosity and I might even enjoy it, however there is no hope of it ever being better than the series because its so good. The first movie however was totally awful and I hope that it will be better than that. The main reason why I think this will fail is the lack of Joss Whedon because he is a total genius and you cant just make a Buffy movie without him because it just isnt Buffy.
Still glad that the Buffyverse is still alive and kicking though. We have Season 8 and After The fall, Buffy: Sacrifice for DS and now the upcoming movie and the MMORPG that im looking forward to.

I think I have already said this in one of the other threads...

Will see it out of curiousity, on DVD or in the theatre depends on how it looks beforehand.

Do think that it feels a bit wrong to do it without Joss Whedon but that doesn't mean it can't be good.
Perhaps they learned something since last. 😉
And if it isn't, so what. I will just forget about it and keep watching the old show.

Very unlikely to watch this, certainly not at the cinema since I haven't been since the last century. Although that was predominately due to the smoking ban at the pictures and I gave up two years ago. But still very unlikely.

As for the DVD, I certainly won't go out of my way to buy it, but if it falls into my bag at, for example, Asda I may be persuaded to watch it.

If I'm at a loose end.

If I have a spare wednesday & a mate, I'll go see it because of Orange Wednesdays. Otherwise I'll watch it some other way.

I won't pay to see it, not in the cinema nor on DVD. I also won't view it as a "Buffy" movie. Buffy is the show, I can't change how I feel about that. As I said before, I'll view this as fan fiction, I've read countless enjoyable fics but I won't pay for fan fiction.

I will definitely see it. I know it won't be the same, because I feel like the actors chosen to play the parts in the show really made the characters come into their own... but, come on.... it's Buffy. You gotta see it! 🙂

In response to VisionGuy: I'm not seeing it because yes im loyal, which therefore leads me to be utterly uninterested as well.
