Discussion of 6.07 "Once More, With Feeling" - Aired 11/6/01 (UPN-US)

Makes you wonder what would have happened if Sweet would have goon through with the deal .Lol.

I actually love that the songs were dubbed in the French version. Makes me wish other dubs did the same thing. I love singing "So I will march in the flames" 😀
 
Good dubbing . Couldn't understand it but it sounded like it was in sync with the music 🙂
 
I'm a bit torn about the episode. I don't like musicals much, they all sound the same in essence and follow the same patterns. Amber Benson and Anthony Head do have incredible voices, though.

What really bugged me was why Xander of all people should summon Sweet. First, he's a guy. A guy who doesn't strike me as the singing and dancing and watching musicals type. Second, he was usually apprehensive when it came to magic since the failed love spell in S02. In my headcanon he covered for Dawn. For her, it's much more in character at that time.

And that at least one guy died because of all of it (the one who danced until he burned) just wasn't an issue.

A crossover with Angel would have been funny, though. A nice duet from Willow and Angel... 😱

Sweet said Dawn called him because she was wearing his talisman. Xander covered for klepto Dawn.
Amber Benson does have a great voice . James Masters also was great singing .
I think that Xander did summon Sweet . After all he marrying Anya so i think he gotton over
his fear of magic since then.

Lasty wht do you think Faith would have sung about & how ?

Isn't it possible that Xander didn't fully understand the details of what the spell would entail? (he certainly didn't expect to be Sweet's Queen😛). Maybe like in BB&B he was just thinking the results of the spell (or what he hoped the results would be), and not the finer details of what would actually happen. I'm not totally sold on that side of the things, but then the musical genre does have a lack logic to it so I guess it works for me, and just isn't that important.
 
I like how you think MR Trick. He didn't take time to read all the way through & almost got married . LOL
 
That's the one thing the episode fails on for me. It should have been Dawn, it would have made the most logical sense to be Dawn, it being Xander (with his experiences on demons and spells), he should be smarter than that.

Other than that, the episode is perfection. Because life's a show, and we all play our parts.... 😉

I just heard, you know, revelries and
song and... I wanted to be sure we'd
work out. Get a happy ending.

Never saw this particular episode in original tone since the songs are subbed in the German version. The speech parts are, however, synchronized and sometimes a bit different in context. Did he really say "revelries" in the sense of big orgies? At least that's my dictionary comes up with as a translation. 😀

However, it implies that he knew about the singing and dancing. At this point, he had learned the dangers of magic and summoning, that there are always consequences. He should know better but I can see your point Mr Trick. Well, since I don't like the music I have to rely on the rest, which is the plot and its consistency.

Guess this is fair. Its just that within the context of a musical such a plot detail isn't actually that important and so I think they felt they'd stick a twist in there go with Xander rather than the more logical choice. But yeah think you have a point than maybe they could have put a bit more thought into it.

I think that Xander misread it & thought it was something different . After all it been a number of years since the love spell & he probly thought
this time things would go right .😛

Ha ha! Doubt it. It usually means a jolly time, a party, festivities, that sort of thing.... 😉
 
The Xander part is why this episode doesn't receive a 10/10 in my book. We already saw a Xander growth in S3 Lover's Walk when Xander refused to play a part in Willow's spell because of what happened in BB&B. Joss undoing Xander's character development for a cheap joke is just a sign that he should never do plot twists. He's never good at them - Spike's chip/soul anyone?

You fight along side a Slayer and a witch! When is "I dunno what's gunna happen but it could be fun" ever going to be a good idea in Sunnydale??
 
Did the spell only affect Sunnydale? We never see the guys in LA experiencing anything, but it would've been a cool crossover if Darla had turned up pregnant in 'Offspring' and sung a nice up-tempo pop number to Angel about "I'm pregnant, how could this be? We only made love two times or three...." 😀

As I said, a duet from Willow and Angel would make me really appreciate the episode. 😕 *Cringe*
Interesting would be the impact on Lorne. Would he love it because of the mass opportunities to sing, or would it be horrible because he constantly has to read people all around him?
 
All I know is, it sounds like my idea of heaven. I would totally do a Xander and summon Sweet, if all my life could be interpreted with song and dance (in fact, most of it is already! 😉)

I'd even happily be his Queen, because he's kinda sexy..... as I always say, there's nothing more sexy than a man who can dance. 🙂
