Discussion of 8.01 "The Long Way Home Part 1" - Released 3/14/07 (Dark Horse)

Yeah, I envisioned Buffy "going bigger" post S7 - it seems the logical progression to me. Now that they're more than just a handful of people.

About the government...remember that Maggie tried to kill Buffy. You could say she was acting out her own plan, but it probably reflects a government feeling of anything they can't control, they eliminate.

makes sense to me
The feet look like Spike to me. After all, we dont know what happened to him after Angel. No idea about Amys boyfriend though. I'll need to do more thinking about that 🙂

lol sorry you two - you've gotta get on that 🙂

I keep refreshing the New topics page and getting that SPOILERS one that I just am trying with all my might not to open - you guys must just be grrr argh right about now 🙂

Ok just read it.

Amy's boyfriend = Cheese guy from "Restless"

Haha! hey its a possibility he was more than someone in their dreams. Maybe a demon of some sort! And Amy was a rat, rats eat cheese right? They probably hooked up over their love of cheese. 😛

Rest of the comic was awesome, Can't wait to have willow back in the mix. And Giles too! Hope they bring Clem back also. Maybe even Oz. I wish they could find a way to involve Tara And Anya in this. (Kinda like how in Harry potter they have those talking Headmaster paintings in the headmasters office?). I miss them!

My theories on the figure watching from above...It's probably someone who we least expect. So maybe not spike/Angel/Riley. It could be Amy projecting herself, watching the slayer(s). Could be bad slayer who has magically inclined allies. I guess the possibilities are endless.

I finally got the first comic ^_^ The next 8 for my birthday in a few days, sadly lol most of them are weird covers :lmao:

The first one I got the white cover with her opening the dinosaurs mouth.
The other I might have liked more but I did love The Long Way Home #1
Art was pretty good, better then the first Angel one I thought ^_^
Loved the story and loved seeing what became of some of characters.
Things look great so far. Can't wait to read the next few!! Don't kill me with spoilers!!

The black/white one is a Limited Edition Sketch Cover... it's very very rare! There's only a thousand of them I think!
Alright, I am trying to muddle my way through this first comic. My first thoughts are:

1.How on earth did they get to this point? (I'm guessing it will be explained in later comics.)
2.What's the point of starting a Slayer army? Send all the girls home after they're and let them fight evil in their own areas.
3.Who is General Voll and why does he want to take down Buffy and Co.?
4.Dawn randomly being giant - why?? I know how it happened from reading posts, but seriously. How silly.
5.I do love the scene with Dawn and Buffy in the castle: "I could swat you like a fly." "Your butt looks big in those pants." Haha.
6. I feel like most of the characters aren't true to themselves with the way they're written. Except Xander. I can totally see him saying these things!
7. Why does Amy hate Buffy so much? Maybe I need to rewatch season 6 before I ponder that one too much.

All in all, didn't love it, but didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. Debating whether the motion comics would be better media for me to see.

I've just finished my complete re-watch of Buffy (yet again! 😀) and have now decided I'm ready to read season 8, so I bought this a while ago and read it last night for the first time! 🙂
My first question is, are we supposed to know how much time has passed since the end of season 7?? As I was just totally shocked to see a big 'Intiative' style operation going on! I mean wow! They've certainly found alot of Slayers and that must've taken a while, another reason I wouldn't mind knowing the time gap, is with Dawn 'apparently' having sex! 😱 How old is she supposed to be now??
I hated Xander using the phrase 5 by 5, I mean, that's Faith's phrase and only Faith's phrase! They used to make fun of it and question it and now he uses it himself?? Weird :S
Also, are we supposed to know what a Thricewise is??? I mean what the hell? They could give us a bit more info on that, seeing as we've never even heard of it before! :S
Also thought it was weird having one of slayers with a kinda 'Kendra' accent lol Funny 😀
I did enjoy it though and really liked the art 😀

Hey, guys, I'm glad to see new S8 readers! I hope you post your thoughts so we can all enjoy them. 😀 Your questions will be answered in future issues. 🙂

As for the timeline. A year and a half has passed since Chosen, so that means it's late 2004/early 2005. Buffy and Xander are 24. Dawn is 18 and in college.

I'm kinda confused..sorry! 😕 What's this forum for then?? 😕 I don't understand the 2 different forum thing, I can be a little slow soemtimes by the way 🙄 lol 😀 So confused! lol 😛

Oh, that's OK! You can post here too. 🙂 This is an older thread, the other one I posted is a sub-forum of a re-read of the entire season that we did last summer. So the postings on there are more recent. You can post either place. 🙂 You just might get more responses on the other sub-forum. It's really your choice. Sorry to confuse you!

That's actually a really good point lol

I had the same question. When did she get to be an uber-foe of Buffy?

Great minds. :)
super old thread, but im doing a re-read while waiting for more hardcover editions to come out.

i dont think buffy herself was ever a super foe of amy, but initially i would guess it was what buffy stood for- controlled magic, doing whats right, leader of the slayers, good- basically all of which willow aligned with and turned her against amy. although now those who have read the issue know its because of her connection to the boyfriend, or perhaps the twilight associations.

so my thoughts on the re-read... i still don't like jeanty's art, but i think this first issue isn't too terrible with their likenesses. i do think he does great with dawn, and the panels with her and buffy talking as dawn sat there was my favorite as far as the art goes. also definitely prefer the color scheme here vs season 10 because it feels more like the unsaturated effect of the show, meanwhile s10 just looks too colorful...

the story was a good start to the season, probably the only redeemable aspect of it as whole... and was i the only one not expecting the slayer army? for one, how did they get the funds? we all know buffy isnt the best with money... plus it seemed to me like she was ready to relax and party in rome like double, especially with that smile at the end of season 7.

It's possible that Amy holds Buffy responsible for destroying Sunnydale (possibly with her trapped in the ruins- I can'r remember).
Added to that that Buffy's Willow's best friend who 'forgave' her her magical excesses time and again (basically all of S6) then I guess that would be enough to piss off a mentaly unstable person.

The first arc is a strong start to the season imo.

Hello fellow necromancers.😀

Amy did not hate Buffy or Willow in a true way. She wanted be stronger than Willow is all. She didn't take things seriously and thought it was all a game till shit hit the fan. She wanted to fight Willow. Harming Buffy was the perfect way to make Willow fight seriously.

There was a strong Angel/Spike vibe during the short cooperation between Amy and Willow. Later on Amy even suggested that she and Warren should join the Scoobies.
Too bad S10 ruined Amy as a character.

Jeanty is on par with Isaac IMO. Both are worst than Conrad though. However Conrad can't draw Faith.

Slayers have desires to hunt. Buffy said slaying is comfort food. She also woke up in the night leaving Riley on bed, just to kill some vamps for fun. Demon activities increasing, clueless new slayers created by her plan all over the world... both the instinct and responsibility force her to lead the army.

Upon rereading I like S8 much more. Even the batshit crazy parts have interesting twists, dialogues and actions. I prefer these deeply flawed stories with edges to "whatever, I don't care" stories of S9/S10.

i definitely appreciate it more upon rereading, especially since when i first recieved the issue it was a part of the library editions so there was soooo much to read. i did forget to mention how i hated dawn's regression. by season 7, dawn was one of my favorites, but in her giant state she is acting more like when she was the brat introduced in season 5.
