Okay. 24 hours has elapsed since I read the issue...it's still freaking me out but I've come round to thinking that the glow is some kind of magical spell and that Angel is insane.

Maybe he's Future!Angel?
Maybe he's Spike disguised by a glamour to look like Angel (not that I want that either!!)
Maybe he's shanshued and this is the down side of the prophecy - he gets to be human but is totally crazy

Because seriously, he can't really believe what he's telling Buffy there has to be a reason ... look what this comic is doing to me - makeing me concoct crazy theories to try and rationalise all this. I guess I better wait for Joss to explaine (and it better be good!)
 
I am just wondering if this is a result of releasing all the potentials, everything is out of wack and confusing. Maybe (hopefully) this will all lead to going back to basics and just being one slayer ,well two with faith!
 
Whatever magic caused the glow seems to have turned Angel insane (and Buffy appears to be on her way too). The way he is speaking, the things he's saying just aren't Angel, that's Twilight. I don't believe for a second that Angel would buy (or do) any of this stuff of his own violition. The only way to salvage either of these characters is to make this something that was done to them. Even in saying that it is going to be a very hard sell (Cordelia anyone?).

As for the state of Bangel, well I can't just turn my back on it until I know it's unsalvagable. The mystical connection still bothers me alot but I do feel now that this connection that draws them together doesn't necessarily have anything to do with love. I know I am fan wanking here but whatever. Whistler made it clear that Angel was supposed to help Buffy, they were supposed to help each other. Them falling in love was never on the cards. The connection brought them together but (I suppose I'm hoping) that the love was organic. The only reasoning I can put behind that is that they were separated by hell and heaven, they were apart for years and managed to survive on their own. If the mystical connection was the only thing sustaining them as a couple then surely they would not have been able to resist reuniting until all these years later.

This is what I'm hoping. I can handle them being compelled or destined to meet, but taking the honesty of their love and what they went through away is a bridge I won't cross untill I'm dragged kicking and screaming.

I agree about their love. That just happened. They were meant to meet but they fell in love without being compelled to...If Buffy chose to stay away from Angel s2 or s3 would never had happened in that way

Yea I finishing reading this issue last night. I have no words to describe how upset I am. I don't even know where to start. The glowing part...whoa, what a great explanation NOT! I simply want to punch Angel in the FACE!!! I have been reading the Angel comics..and they say in them that he is going to be on the side of evil...but in this capacity??? I am just so disappointed in Angel. All those people that he helped, it was all in vain. I hope Buffy realizes what is up and finally stakes him for good. I may not like Bangel that much, but I surely like Angel. Now...I am just tired and completely over him.

After reading this issue, I am left with more questions then answers. What does Giles know?? And why didn't he tell Buffy? Didn't he learn in Season 7 not to keep things from her?? Maybe they wouldn't be in this situation if Giles would just fess up and start treating Buffy like an adult. She obviously showed time and time that she is ready for whatever comes. SHE'S CHEATED DEATH! Not so much in earlier seasons, Buffy did improve and got things done in the later ones.

On a happier note, I like Andrew's clothes at the end. His punisher shirt and the Captain America shield, I geeked when I saw it. 😀

The reason I think that is behind Giles not telling Buffy is that he wanted to protect her. Lets not forget the last time what happened when Buffy found a prophetcy with her it, she died. That seems like a pretty good reason for him to not tell her. I don't think there is any real malicious reasons behind it all. Giles knows that prophetcy back fire, from the very first season. Also I have kinda suspicous of Angel ever since in prophetcy girl he wasn't the one who thought of saving Buffy in prophetcy girl, that was Xander, the fact he got any credit for it seemed wrong to me.

I know he wants to protect her. But she isn't 16 years old anymore. She has proven to take care of herself in season 6 and 7.

With absolutely no sarcasm intended, exactly at what point does their relationship become unsalvagable to you? It's an absolute given that, if this is the real, accept no substitutes, original Angel, they are most certainly NOT going to have him end up as the actual monster in this, if for no other reason, because another publishing company still uses him as a hero. It will be revealed at a crucial moment that he has been under the influence of some diabolical device similar to, but far more advanced than, Spike's chip, or being controlled by some sort of spell, or has had his body taken over by some evil spirit. By the end of the series, the status will have been returned to its quo settings, and, if there is no happily ever after, there will at least be a lull in the fighting.

There won't be anything to salvage, because nothing is going to be wrecked.

This whole issue was ridiculous. The glowing thing, Angel telling Buffy he didn't kill anyone, ARGH! Just everything!!

They better have a bloody good why to explain this, 'cause right now, I'm ready to just skip out on the whole thing.

BTW, the Buffy feeling Faith thing. I actually wrote a fic like this once, where Buffy was able to tell if any of the other Slayers were hurt or killed through some sort of telepathy. I would just like to say HA! 😀
 
What's so wrong about the glowing? Willow glowed in Chosen. I don't remember a lot of complaining about Spike and Buffy's hands burning in embrace as she says I love you. Was that not very similar and absurd as well? And yes, we have questions, and they will be answered. If they answer everything now, then there's nothing to look forward to. I'm guessing some of you don't watch Lost, cause you'd go mad watching that show waiting 6 full years for answers, and often simplistic answers are given.
 
It's not so much the glowing in itself. We dealt with Willow glowing and Spike and Buffy's hands on fire because there were valid reasons behind both of those scenes. This glowing was just ridiculous and completely unnecessary. There was no valid reason given, none that I could find, anyway, and it left the whole scene look like some form of fanfic. Bad fanfic.

That is exactly how I feel. A REALLY BAD FANFIC! You can't just bring that kind of thing up and not explain it.
You don't think they'll ever address the glowing? I don't take the comics that seriously anymore anyway, not since Wolves at the Gate. Season 8 has always been pretty much fan fic. But the glowing doesn't bother me. Giant Dawn stomping around Tokyo fighting a mecha version of herself does though.
 
For me, the glowing, after the dig at the Twilight saga books, just came off as hypocritical. Buffy's line about her vampire being 'so much better' was really clever and for me, the high point of the whole issue, but then, they completely errode their stance as the superior text because, hey, our vampires might not sparkle like lame old Meyerpires but suddenly they are 'glowing' because of the force of their connection?? It's just so sappy. Maybe if the glowing had been an act unto itself it wouldn't have been so bad, but it was accompanied by flying and OTT emotional speechifying and lies.

I know an explanation is coming. I know I will probably accept said explanation but that doesn't stop me being dissatisfied with what we were given in #33.

Agree about the last part. Angel is hanging by a thread in my book. I'm not as attached to him as I am other characters, so I'm not completely devestated, but I'm sad to say the least. He is my third favorite character, has been all along...but now, he's almost lost to me. I can no longer justify his actions.

I think he might be pure evil.
