Spoiler! Extremely spoilery: Buffy #34 Soliciations.

Wow, what a twist! It's obvious what Willow, Giles, and the rest have to do now. Goodbye Buffy. Very excited to see what happens.

Anyone remember When She Was Bad, Ted, and Bad Girls? And her, er, Authoritarian attitude in season seven? Yeah, Buffy's sudden change didn't come out of nowhere.

i dunno...something feels very off about all of this.

i'm flashing on a comic book event DC Comics did in the early 90 called "Armageddon 2001"...the big reveal to the story was one of dc's heroes was going to become a big bad villain. the ending got leaked and at the last minute the identity of the big bad and the ending was changed.

i also know that joss loves to throw people off in very obvious ways...for example wanting to include jesse in the opening credits of the pilot.

i'm not entirely buying it yet.

Man, I'm so tired of Angel.

I'm more disappointed with the fact that these images were put out by darkhorse than I am that Angel is Twilight.

Of course, I do think it sucks that Angel is Twilight, but I have to wonder why they would tell everybody about that four months in advance. Why bother keeping the secret so well just to reveal it four months before it's supposed to be revealed?

By "keeping the secret so well," I don't mean that they did a good job of not saying "Angel is Twilight" for the entirety of the series up until now. What I'm saying is, it seems silly for Scott Allie to blatantly say that Spike and Angel won't be in season 8 after the chen/whedon web comic if he's just going to spill the beans four months before the big reveal anyhow.

People assumed early on that Twilight might be Angel, and darkhorse just decides to blatantly lie about it just to confirm it later on, before the big reveal? I'm not sure I understand what they're trying to accomplish with this leak.

- If the plan is to get more people to buy the comics, I'm not sure why that would be the case because they're among the top selling indie comics. The people who are seeking the information about who twilight is are the ones who are going to buy the comics anyhow.

-Also, if the idea is that, "hey if non-readers know that Angel is back, they'll probably want to know how that happens!" This is true, and an excellent point--probably the exact reason Twilight's identity was leaked. However, there's no reason to believe darkhorse will gain readership more from an early reveal than the big reveal itself. If the casual Buffy fan or nonreader finds out that Angel is Twilight a few days after issue 33 is released (and, even after not reading for 3 years is suddenly interested enough to find out what happened), they're just as likely to get a hold of the comics and find out what happened than they would be if they'd heard four months in advance.

Angel is Twilight--that I can deal with because I have to trust the storytelling--it isn't over yet. I'm unhappy with it, but I'm along for the ride.

Letting it go early? Seems like a waste of their earlier efforts and an unnecessary pr stunt.

ok WTF seriously, Bangel fan here in all but come on Twilight is realy Angel, no I don't like that. I mean I am loveing the covers, Buffy and Angel together again. That couple is my second fav couple ever behind Naley(nathan and Haley of OTH), but I don't want Twilight to be Angel. I just don't like that idea, I was more for like future Buffy or Dawn, or maybe even Ben/glory but not Angel.

I'm really, REALLY annoyed about this. I said, from the get go, that I would be majorly disappointed if Twilight was Angel or Spike, and I stand by that now. It's a cop out, pure and simple. They took the easy way out, and I'm throughly disgusted in Joss and Co right now.

Allie said all the way through that Angel and Spike wouldn't be a major part of the series, Georges told me to my face and hundreds of other people sitting in that room that he wouldn't be drawing Angel or Spike as they weren't going to be a part of S8 apart from that one small dream sequence. I feel utterly betrayed.

Angel's image is on the TPB cover, which can be seen in the link bunchofmulch111 posted above, so the idea or hopes that this is a dream or a glamor are fading fast. There's no way they would give this much cover space to Angel if it wasn't actually Angel.

I'm a lot pissed off at the staff at Dark Horse, as well. They worked SO hard for SO long to keep the identity of Twilight a secret, and then they just release these covers, four months before the issue hits the stands? It's a very bad move on their part, and they should have known that it would have upset us all rather than appeasing us. To have waited this long and then be spoiled by the company so long before the issue is released was just not cool.

I just hope the pay off is worth it because if this is a joke or if Angel is actually evil and Twilight, I will feel beyond betrayed. And I know I am not alone in that.

I still can't figure out just how they're gonna work this out so that it meshes with Angel's own comic, especially since there is the timeline difference, but whatever is actually going on, I think that it's pretty safe to say that, if they've known about all of this for four years, they've got a way to reconcile the whole thing.

(Just in case anyone's missed the third cover, this one makes it look like Buffy's under some sort of spell or thrall)

Agreed. Why would she allow Angel to stake her?!

That's apparently the TPB cover for this arc, which, you're right, does make Buffy look like she's in some sort of drug haze, or just woke up from the bast nap ever.

Does anyone know where we're at in the Angel comics right now? I got lost and stopped buying them, so I'm confused. There has to be something that makes these storylines mesh, 'cause right now, as far as I can tell, they're poles apart.

I hope to God they have a way to make this better because in one fell swoop they've, or at least they have appeared to, destroyed my two favourite characters. If this is real and Angel is truly Twilight and has killed all those people and Buffy is throwing herself at him...I'm done. I'm out. It would destroy my entire enjoyment and belief in the Buffyverse and Buffyfandom.

Buffy and Angel are our heroes, I just cannot believe that Joss would make them villians. I mean all these years of fighting to do what is right and this?

I still believe that none of this fits though. Angel isn't a D grade villian, like him or not but he isn't that.

How does Shanshu fit into this?

I feel like this is a foil for something else because nothing about this feels right.

I'll hold my final judgements until I actually read the issues but right I'm honestly kinda heartbroken.

🙁

you are so right...I don't wanna see my two favourite characters being destroyed like that
Dammit, I can't rep you again, but I agree, very much so.

Something about the TPB is making me think, though. Buffy looks extremely out of it, like she's high or drunk...or that it's a hastily thrown together piece on Jo's part and that's the best she could do in a short amount of time. Maybe it is a ploy and Jo hasn't really cared too much, 'cause it's not a serious piece.

Also, the 'cover' that started all this; is it just me or does Buffy look very young? Her hair is a lot darker than we're used to in this season, in fact, it's very similar to the actual color of SMG's hair in S, which doesn't feel right or something.

The original cover, to me, looks like Buffy S1 of her show and Angel S1 of his.

Also, I think Buffy is looking more dead then under a thrall in the TPB, but the look on Angel's face doesn't look very Angel to me at all, it looks like Angelus.

Once again with the heartbroken.

My thoughts exactly.

I've always been pretty neutral regarding Bangel, but I've always loved both characters.

I will stay with the series through issue 34, to see what the real meaning of those covers is. If they turn out to be literal, then I'm going to drop the Buffy comic.

And believe you me, those are words I never thought I'd see myself type. 🙁

I think the majority of us are in the same frame of mind. This is the worst 'twist' in the history of the verse. I mean, we followed it through giving Angel a son, killing Lindsey 'in case he did something wrong', Jasmine taking over Cordelia to give birth to herself, turning Spike into a ghost, killing Cordelia, giving Buffy a sister, turning every Potential into a Slayer. This is just the worst idea ever.

I'll be done with the whole thing. I couldn't watch the eps or talk about it knowing what they would become.

Buffy and Angel's heroes journey's has been one of the most rewarding and important pieces of fiction to me, maybe the most important. To think this is where it could potentially go is horrifying to me.

I know I am being sensationalist but I really cannot express how much I admire their stories. I hope that I am wrong about this I really do. What this reveal suggests doesn't feel like my characters at all and I am hoping my gut is right.

If they're going to go this route, then they'd better damn well have the guts to follow the story where it leads.

Angel is out of chances to "redeem himself." We've been down that road before. Look at the things he's done this season, and the cold-blooded nastiness with which he's done them.

You only get to hand us so many sh*t sandwiches before we throw it down the toilet and flush. This time, he MUST be dusted for what he's done.

And frankly... I hope Xander is the one to stake him. He's earned it.

And if Buffy chooses to throw herself at Angel like a pathetic bimbo with battered wife syndrome... then she needs to share his fate.

God, I hate this. I hate everything about it. This is going beyond ruining season 8 for me... it's retroactively going back and ruining the whole Buffyverse in hindsight.

I'm completely in agreement with you guys...especially about Xander being the one to stake Angel, he's deserved it, after all, he was always the one who said Angel wasn't to be trusted.

There's no way he can redeem himself from this, his killed people, put Satsu and Buffy herself in the hospital...but, oh, God, that whole 'I've seen that move before' makes a whole lot more sense now.

I can't believe this. Joss better know what he's doing here, otherwise I am done.

Sorry, Kean, but I don't think I'm a Bangel anymore...I don't really think I'm anything right now. I'm numb.

That is exactly how I feel right now.

I just don't believe that Joss would make the heroes, the real heroes and not thier alter egoes, villians. He has time and again turned the series dark but this would negate the entire story.

Waiting three months for answers is only going to encourage more bitterness and resentment amongst the fandom.
