Shows You Gave Up After Seeing Several Episodes/Seasons

Yes. Bad acting, bad casting and bad directing. I mean the first episode of the UK version wasn't that great but at least it charisma. The US version just felt rather flat.

See I would say that the UK version, though it has fewer episodes, is the better value. You could not pay me to watch the US one again lol, but I rewatch the UK one all the time.

Yes the writing in the US version was terrible. They made the storylines they started with terrible. They chose terrible actors. Sam Witwer is terrible. See what I'm getting at? lol 😀 I think they tried to make it into True Blood, but it did not work. They forgot that the entire premise of the show is what it means to be human. .

I have given up on "Big Bang Theory" and in fact anything else that has a laugh track.

Big Bang Theory always seemed like the nerd equivalent of blackface even if they eventually shoehorn some relationships in there.

A laugh track is an insult. It implies that I don't have the sense to understand when something funny is happening. It is used for Willow's "Cletus, the slack-jawed yokel" where the laugh track is used to tell him when to laugh.

Most shows, I haven't watched through to the end. I think the problem has been that I've tried to watch too many at once. It's hard to keep track of what's going on when you watch a lot of shows. And then the DVR would get full and I'd have to delete episodes or spend the weekend catching up. I decided recently to focus on just one show at a time. It's a lot less stressful. So far I've watched Downton Abbey, Stranger Things and am working my way through Buffy/Angel for the first time. I was also trying to keep up with shows as they aired but I'm realizing it's nicer to binge watch. Less time between episodes so you don't forget what happened in the previous one. Also, if there's a cliffhanger in one episode, you can just watch the next one immediately. The only issue is spoilers.

Starting in season 2 the storylines are completely different, but even the season 1 finale ended differently. And they made little changes that lowered the quality of what they did keep.

Yes. He is terrible in everything I have seen him in! I do not know how he has an acting career, he doesnt even have the looks.

I am put off by laugh tracks too. I almost gave up on Disjointed because of the laugh track, but managed to ignore it and enjoyed the series. Looks like Netflix gave up on it though.

So much agreement here. I feel like everyone likes that show and the few times I've tuned it is like, ok so they are using big words for no reason, things like "oh that is the most parsimonious solution." That's not funny. Why do some people find that funny because they don't know what parsimonious means? To me its annoying. Also, speaking of the laugh track, it starts going off when Sheldon says something super intellectual and the blonde girl doesn't get it. So he explained apoptosis and the girl didn't get it. Not that funny. Its just... NOT FUNNY. Why is everyone laughing??

I used to love The Big Bang Theory 😳. Think it's just gotten too big now. Those early seasons were actually genuinely exciting for a new sitcom. We used to get hold of them as soon as we could.

See, this is what I do, but then I'm told (or I worry) that I'm missing out on good TV because I'm 'afraid' to waste my time on something that I don't know whether it will be good or bad. I have so many shows I want to get started on, but I always end up re-watching something I own instead. It's a vicious cycle 🙂

Stopped watching Big Bang when I realized the jokes were always laughing at nerds... not with them. Someone recently did an interesting edit, removing the laugh track from the show, and it's just cruel joke after cruel joke, and very not funny.

I feel about it the same way I feel about a lot of horror these days: it seems like the story is set up just to tell/show graphic and horrible scenes, instead of allowing the horror to develop organically from the story itself. Plus, I really couldn't stand any of the characters. I watched 3-4 episodes of the first season a long while back, then tried a few episodes of S2 with a friend before calling it quits. I can't do it.

This is what I HATE about modern shows. There is so much explicit sex! Are these actor employed as actors or porn stars? Sometimes there is only explicit sex in the first episode, like shock factor or something and it is so off putting. Writers do have the ability to tell good stories without pornographic or sexually disturbing material. Even some of the violence must come from very disturbed minds. I am starting to gravitate toward content suited for younger audiences just to avoid this.

This is what I meant in my status last night - I do not enjoy eating my dinner while there are oral sex acts on my screen. Its hard to know what adult shows will feature porn. Many of them have far more sexual detail than the audience needs. Or are the mainstream audience becoming sexually deviant as a human race?

My problem with re-watching, is that the shows are dated and I start to zone out when I know what is going to happen. There are only so many times I can re-watch Buffy, I dont want to watch it so much that I hate it (like my ex did with Marvel movies).

I do have Eureka on DVD so should get back to that in the times I feel with it enough to follow. I will give up on some shows, not because they are poor, but because they are good, and my mind cannot always follow to get the full effect of a first run storyline.

Game of Thrones: Stopped watching in 2013, I finished the season I was on (and enjoyed it) but was quite happy not to go back to it when the new season began.

@OccaQuokka I know how you feel. I'm not offended by explicit sex but it often leaves me wondering; Was that really plot relevant? Did it really tell us something about these characters? Why did they put it there?

Yeah I felt that way about True Blood. It was like they just wanted to shock people, not tell the story. I don't mind it, unless it just seems thrown in there without a thought.
