Some ships are WEIRD !

All of this remind me something about Angel/Spike.. Spike told "Angel and I were never close except once" and I'm wondering if the comics give more information about "that once"

Just a couple of visual fantasies *shudder*
As someone who ships Xander/Giles, I don't think Buffy/Giles is a big deal as Giles isn't her real father. Even Spike thought there was something going on between them. 😀

I think the problem with Giles and Buffy as a romantic ship is that the show hammered the fact that Giles is Buffy's father figure (several characters including Giles mentioned that Giles was Buffy's surrogate father) and Buffy was always disgusted by Giles having a sexual life with anyone and tended to see him as old and gross.

It's different with Giles/Willow and Giles/Xander as Giles never expressed a desire to be their father and both kids were never disgusted with Giles' private life, at least not to the same extent as Buffy. Willow had a crush on Giles and thought his voice was sexy. Xander smiled at Cordelia when he caught Giles kissing Jenny and didn't find it 'gross'. He also hesitated in raising his hand when Buffy told them to raise their hands if they thought it was 'ew' of Faith thinking Giles was sexy.

Doesn't Clem fancy Harmony or have I just made that up?

People are going to ship characters with whoever they want (eg in OUAT, people were jokingly shipping Hook with the floor because he spent so much time down there in season 2), what's more disturbing is if people ship the ACTORS together rather than the characters eg there is quite some detailed fan art (some of it shown on the Graham Norton show) that ships Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy together.

Buffy/Giles probably get shipped together more on the teacher/student angle (I'm assuming we're talking post-high school Buffy) rather than the Father/daughter angle, whilst Riley/Angel probably get shipped together on the love triangle angle where Buffy is the third wheel.

I think the more disturbing ships involve Dawn because she was underage throughout the duration of the show so all you see is underaged!Dawn/Adult.

I don't see it as an issue as there are many underage shipping going on. I've read many High School Xander fics where he's shipped with an adult: Giles, Spike, Angel, Drusilla, Jenny, Snyder and even Joyce. Buffy/Angel is a minor and adult together. There are also thousands of Spuffy fics set in the high school years.

I think the reason with people finding it easier to ship high school Buffy, Xander and Willow with adults is because the actors are far older than their characters. SMG, NB and AH were adults while MT was a minor during the show's run.

Yep and yep. :)
One of the Buffy novels by Nancy Holder hinted at the idea of Jillow (Joyce/Willow). It was published before Willow came out, but had her thinking how Mrs. Summers was one of the most beautiful women she has ever seen.

Also, I got the impression that "book club" Joyce joined the summer Buffy was hiding out in L.A. was about more than just books.

Totally agree about the book club!!! Good thread idea too. ☆☆☆☆☆☆

I've read all the Buffy novels & I must admit I don't recall the part you mention here......Can you remember which book it was?

I love them together! In the comics Andrew told Buffy she'd traded up by moving from Angel to Spike - then there was Andrew in the black duster. Not a romantic coupling please - but more of them together would be great. Spike's cynicism together with Andrew's mad enthusiasm is just delightful. I really think Andrew brings out Spike's better nature - no "wimpier", no testosterone. "Mission, Mission" - LOL! I also thought "the little boy" was endearing.

I'm always plugging Giles/Andrew but everyone just ignores me... God I'm lonely. 😀
There does seem to be a lot of creepy fanfic about Buffy and Giles hooking up, so that seems like a common one. I don't know what's wrong with people.

From a psychoanalytical perspective, the Buffy/Giles ship makes sense - but only if it's an earlier manifestation of Buffy, not the later Buffy. The personal dynamic changes between them in the later episodes - we see that on screen (the potentials replace her for him. Spike - to a certain extent - replaces Giles for Buffy). It's an Oedipal thing!

NO! NO! A thousand times NO to Giles and Andrew! You've just made a bit of sick come into my mouth!

In season eight there's a scene where Angel and Spike are squabbling and Buffy says "I think I liked it better when you two where kissing" (in reference to a dream she had where they left her for each other and she married skinless Warren) to which Spike replies, "I don't think I ever mentioned…" implying that he and Angel had kissed before. But there's nothing more specific.

Sorry, I can't remember the title or even the plot, but the scene I'm thinking of Joyce is driving Buffy and Willow somewhere and they get into an accident. Willow is injured and Oz shows up at the hospital all mad at first because he misunderstood and thought Buffy was driving while doing her makeup. Something like that.

Just prior to the accident Willow is thinking how beautiful Mrs. Summers is. I remember thinking it odd because while Joyce is a nice looking woman and all, basically every woman Willow associates with is smoking hot. So it seemed like she had a bit of a crush.

Andrew clearly fancies Spike. Perhaps he'll make himself a Spikebot?

Spike would be completely freaked out though.

If Andrew perfects building a spikebot he could be rich beyond his wildest dreams. Orders will be flooding in for models. I hope one is the 1970s subway spikebot.

When Hell freezes over. The onus is on you to stop making me laugh. This is a work lap-top so it doesn't matter...🙂

I think the weirdest 'ship of all is Buffy and the Master. Their meeting in "Prophecy Girl" was somewhat erotic. Buffy is revolted by him, but at the same time aroused by his power. This is shown when she falls under his charm and then appears to be having an orgasm when he bites her. After they've both "gotten their rocks off", they no longer have any use for each other so first he kills her and then she kills him.

It would have been interesting if this repulsion/arousal could have been explored further. It sort of is in the sixth season with Spike, but since Spike is charming & quite foxy, the relationship doesn't have the same power as Buffy offering herself to a revolting character like the Master.

I once started reading a Yahtzee written fan fiction (always loved her stories so I wanted to read them all) but I realized about a quarter of the way in that it was Buffy/Giles story. And I had to stop BC it was so wrong. So very very wrong. I wish I could remember the name. It was also a Cangel story so the whole thing bothered me lol.
