Some ships are WEIRD !

There's a site where I read and post all my Spuffy fic, and they did this hilarious April Fools prank; anyone who logged onto the site on April 1st got hit with Rangel pics and Rangel stories, and the unfortunate announcement that the site had shifted from Spuffy to Rangel. It was so funny, especially since most of the authors there really can't stand Riley.

I find that most of the 'weird' pairings can be turned around with a really good author (except Biles, I will never read that!). I read a story that made me intrigued by Dawn/Wes, another story gave me Tara/Oz without Willow there, and I even adored a Tara/Lawson pairing I once read. So I guess it all depends on how you meet the pairing for the first time, imo 🙂

Priceless
Priceless
Do you know of any serious Rangel fic, I've been looking for a while and can only find fluff :-)
Interesting enough to me, I can enjoy some fun, silly manipulations (like on YT) to twist something into a ship, but that's how I take it: as silly and fun. But plenty of times I saw the bulk of the comments and replies being that it makes so much sense, and glad they're not the only ones to see it, and I think they're being serious.

I so want an insightful study on the psychology of ships...I'm betting that at least in some cases that it can be pretty complex rather than "they're hot, let's put them together." I don't mean to say that they're twisted somehow. The rare time a ship appeals to me, especially if it's odd, I'll ask myself what about it appeals to me and will psychoanalyze myself.

Btw, there was someone who used to post who asked how we felt of Sid the Puppet and Buffy (Suffy? Bid?). I said I supported it because I found the idea hilarious (and did...I'd give that ship a try just for amusement value...and as I also said, it's possible I could be impressed with the writing). I don't think he posted much after that. I hope he didn't mistake my good natured honesty as some kind of passive aggressive rebuke of his ship. (Though it's not an interest I actually share beyond amusement, and if I AM impressed with the writing then it's because that could do something so incredible with something so weird, or otherwise make it seem like a believable story arc that the writers weren't brave enough to actually use. Some people, even fanfic writers, really can be that amazing.)

I've read a couple of these already (just now) and this is probably as close to exploring the why of ships (without a lot of panting) that I'll get for a long while.
I once started reading a Yahtzee written fan fiction (always loved her stories so I wanted to read them all) but I realized about a quarter of the way in that it was Buffy/Giles story. And I had to stop BC it was so wrong. So very very wrong. I wish I could remember the name. It was also a Cangel story so the whole thing bothered me lol.

Oh, yikes. I love Yahtzee but I had the *exact* same feelings about that story, which I also did not finish! It's called Destination Unknown.

For some reason, I'm picturing Season 6 Buffy and Clem together in a pseudo-relationship (essentially where she sleeps with him but hates herself for it) because Clem is a "nice guy" and Buffy feels bad about what she's doing because she's using him and he's a "nice guy" yet he's a demon so.......

Cluffy is an obviously good ship. She trusts him with Dawn and Joyce so I don't see a need for her to hate herself. He is sociable (unlike her vampire lovers) and astute enough to grab Spike's crypt when he leaves. I think he is one of the good guys.

I like Clem a lot but Cluffy is a terrible ship. They have a great friendship that is sweet and honest. And they have a respect for each other. He is definitely one of the good guys. But a lover? No. Buffy only deserves heroes, people with strength and power. Also, Buffy never trusted Clem with Joyce. I'm not sure if you are confusing a Clem moment with a Spike moment, Clem babysits Dawn in Seeing Red and Villains, and we meet him in Life Serial. All after Joyce is dead.

I don't see Cluffy working in a way that Tillow works as a ship. I'm talking more along the lines of Buffy is still adjusting coming back from heaven, Clem is there being nice, one thing leads to another. Cluffy then have a similar relationship to what Spuffy had in Season 6 but more healthier. Clem develops genuine feelings for Buffy, thinking what they have is special, however Buffy is just using him to make herself feel better and hates herself for doing it. She makes him promise not to tell anyone, especially Spike but it all ends up coming out anyway and both Clem and Buffy get hurt by it. There would be no AR.

Nice ideas but I'm still not buying it. I don't think Clem has ever experienced "one thing leading to another." He's so gentle and kind, he would never let it happen.

I think Clem is quite unlucky in love and if he'd had a previous pep talk from Spike about "seizing the moment" in general, then when Buffy started coming on to him, he'd probably go along with it. Clem wouldn't take advantage because he's too nice and Buffy can be pretty persuasive. She'd hate herself afterward but she would be the one doing the instigating because she just wants to "feel".

Buffy did plenty of instigating in Spuffy as well. As far as Clem I actually don't think he would go along with Buffy coming on to him. He has a very good understanding and acceptance of who he is and the social hierarchy of demons and the slayer. He would tell her whatever reason she was doing it was not worth losing herself.

I still think Clem would think it meant more than it actually did. He'd keep to Buffy's request that he not tell anyone about them and Buffy would feel bad about using him because he is a genuinely nice guy. If we're honest, Clem isn't much of a looker, so he wouldn't want to question Buffy about why she's sleeping with him too much (I could see him going to Spike for advice about a girl and Spike telling him not to question it. Also in this scenario Spike is NOT in love with Buffy), because he's got feelings for her and he doesn't want to ruin what they have. As far as Clem is concerned, love is about keeping the other person happy so that's what he's trying to do, keep Buffy happy by not telling anyone about their "relationship".

I could see Spike turning up at Clem's place unannounced and catching the two of them together so then Clem is having to persuade him to keep quiet whilst Buffy fears he may tell which sends her into a deeper spiral of depression. Eventually the shit hits the fan and the fallout is massive. It could split the Scoobies down the middle. If Spike had let something slip then there would be a fallout between him and Clem. Xander would be disgusted that Buffy slept with a demon. This would anger Anya (as she used to be a vengeance demon) and she'd challenge Xander's attitude by asking if he would be disgusted by her if she was still a demon. Tara would try and be supportive of Buffy because Clem is a "nice guy" whilst Willow would be freaked out by the thought of Buffy and Clem sleeping together but not react as badly as Xander did, but there would still be a difference of opinion between the two. Spike would be angry at the way Buffy treated Clem, which could be what kicked off the fallout. It would explore the theme of prejudice.

Well now you've got a whole season 6 rewrite brewing. Be my guest and write some Cluffy fanfic. I'm gonna have to agree to disagree with you but I'm impressed with the complexity of your alternate reality.

Thanks! 🙂 I hope to do a Season 6 AU but it all depends on how well the Season 4 AU goes then a Season 5 AU.

Fool for Buffy
Fool for Buffy
That sounds like so much work but good luck!
I'd actually enjoy a Buffy/Clem pairing in the canon because that really would be brave and subversive of them rather than trite and formulaic--and on this point I'm actually serious. I can just hear the moans of horror from the fans that project themselves into Buffy (and thus feel Clem is forced upon them), however. 😀

Is it controversial to ship Spike and Faith? Could it not work because of the horrible ship names: Saith...Spaith?

I think the two of them would be like fireworks. Sorda like him with Drusilla. It would be fun to watch.

Is it controversial? Obviously. All ships are controversial.😉 And actually I think this one is pretty popular especially among Bangel fans. I don't think the two of them would work because he's a hopeless romantic and she would just be up for a fling here and there. He needs someone who deserves his undying devotion.

I didn't realize it was popular among Bangel fans. Maybe it's in the way we see Buffy differently. I think Faith needs someone to love her the way Spike loves which is all consuming. She has never had that. It would be great if someone was that devoted to her (in a romantic way, Angel is devoted to her as a friend/brother). Faith is also very guarded in her emotions thus the "sleep with them them dump them" and I think Spike would call her out on her shit. The way Robin tried but failed because he is lame. It could have been a fun ship to watch. I like their interaction in Season 7.
