Let's talk about...Ruby 2.0.
I'm honestly having hard time liking this character...am I supposed to? For one, the actresses' voice irritates me...it's too lispy. She's pretty, but I miss the original actress, Cassidy. I can't help but think that the writers purposely make most of the female character's unlikable. The only one I've ever really felt much for was Jo...and well, who knows what happened to her. What I love so much about this this is that it ISN'T for the most part about romance. It's pretty clear that Ruby and Sam are using each other under the pretense that they're "helping" one and other, and I don't like that.
The sexual relationship that is being revealed as happening between Sam and Ruby just seems...disturbing to me. It's not clear what her intentions are. On one level, she appears to care about Sam, after all, she did save his life - but why? But I can't help but think that the only reason she's around is to keep him "in check" because she knows he's an important player in the final battle or whatever. She's obviously infatuated with him. Their sex scene disturbed me very much. She's so manipulative! She's also not the best actress on the block. I also don't like how angry she is all the time...
Secondly, she has no concern for human life. She claims that she's doing a good thing by using her "socially conscious" body, but the only reason she left the previous one she was using was because Sam threatened to send her back to Hell if she didn't! She acts like she's "different" than other demons, but all of her "good" actions seem to have an agenda. Their relationship reminds me very much of Spuffy Season 6; Ruby's using him for sex obviously, she thinks he's super-hot, but I question if she really cares about him. By manipulating him into thinking that he's using his powers for good - to save people more easily - she's really just encouraging him to cross to the dark side. I totally agree with Dean's concerns regarding her. She can't be trusted.
I don't hate Ruby. I thinks he's a nice edition to Sam's ever-growing corruption, but I DEFINITELY question her intentions.
At this point, she'd have to do something amazing to redeem her character, in my opinion.
