Veggie/Veganism

Always worth a try. As I can't eat nuts I've tried making my own bars using oats and stuff, but it is really hard to get a good structure. Also, more work than I thought it was worth.

I'm wondering if we did them in more of a flapjack way with lots of added seeds and fruit that would work better. Do you like pumpkin seed spread, could that work in a similar way to peanut butter to bind it?

Its not nearly as difficult to feed a vegan as some memes make it seem. I had burgers tonight but leave out the roo and bacon and the veganeater could still have a tomato, rocket and mustard pickle sandwich. Right? Some packets of things say "suitable for vegans" but then list milk and egg as trace ingredients.

How did the curry paste go? @nightshade. I haven't made one in years but if you like cooking shows, The siblings on My Kitchen Rules made one from scratch. They were the cutest team too! Henry and Anna. He is a bit of eye candy too 😉 but she made the paste. I rarely make curry paste cos proper stuff takes so long, I asked a friend whos parents have a thai restaurant what they use, she said from the jar haha. I guess it is the quick cheats way. Sometimes I just use the powder. Flour can be used to bind thing, but not sure how it will go in the bars.

Very confusing with gluten free, dairy free, nut allergies and sensitivities these days!

Umm curry paste? I just added curry powder and a few spices, to my onion, garlic and ginger! I've not so far advanced to make a paste, nor actually would I know what to do with it!

I've started using rice milk in tea, it's a better flavour than the almond milk, not as strong. However you do need more of it than I thought, still it's better than cows milk. I know a lot use the oat milk, but when I first tried different milks I found that was one you had to shake well or you get lumps of kinda a creamy texture or you get it quite watery, and first thing in the morning I don't think about that! It may have changed as this was years ago, apart from milk in tea I haven't used milk in probably over 10 years, I just got to kick this tea habit!

It's porridge season! One good thing about winter is that I love having porridge in the mornings, I make it with almond milk and usually add nuts or seeds to it.

Rice milk is a success in tea, so I'm happy about that. However I still haven't found strawberry ice cream that's vegan yet, blueberry and raspberry yes, but no strawberry!

Of course there's no such thing as vegan strawberry ice cream! Just visualize it - a peaceful herd of strawberries grazing in a meadow and suddenly strawberry poachers come along and the herd begins to run, but they are no match for the poachers who cut their umbilical cords then rip them out of their bodies. Can you hear the screaming of the strawberries @nightshade , the tortured screams of the strawberries?

Of course you can get vegan blueberry and raspberry ice cream, blueberries and raspberries are just plants.

Oh I wonder if I could make my own, I don't grow enough strawberries to really make any, but my mother does own an ice cream maker.

I have baby strawberries! I hope they made it to maturity. So I can munch them. I have another big pot ready for new plants. These ones may need replacing after this crop. I'll feed their bodies to the chooks.

I really need to cut back on tea, I bought the rice milk on Friday, it's now Wednesday and I've only got enough left for a cup in the morning, how have I used a litre of milk in less than a week ,and I've only used it for tea!

Can’t you just cut back on the amount of milk you have in the tea? Or maybe you just have a little but a lot of tea. 🙂

I usually have 3 cups a day, one in the morning, I take one to work and one in the evening, I didn't think I used a lot of milk, but I know I do add more rice milk than cows milk, however I didn't think it would be a litre of milk in less than a week!

However I did have a Linda McCartney mushroom and spinach burger for tea tonight, first time trying them, was ok, but much prefer the Goodlife ones or the pulled pork type.

I read an article today about the lives lost in modern day harvesting and farming of plant products. Mice lives matter.

It wasn't very long and I made a copy if you want me to link, but I didn't want to shove it in the threads face. It did not offer solutions.

I almost nearly brought a guinea pig from the pet shop today cos they were attacking each other and I wanted to rescue them! But then I saw the mumma one in another cage and realised they were bred in store for profit. I am not on board with that. (But I do not disagree with designer cats/dog bred off site and sold in pet shops. It doesn't seem much different to designer ponies, and they've proven beneficial).

Is kelp and sushi seaweed vegan?
