What is your biggest complaint about season 7?

I feel that it was so cool that the Scoobies kind of fell apart in season 7. Where can you find a group of people who pull together constantly, toward the same cause and never have disagreements or just up and bail on each other? I've never seen it.

Again, I think that was the point, everyone kind of doubting Buffy but then coming back in the end. Highlighted Spike's utter devotion to Buffy, Buffy's tormented role as leader, Xander and Dawn's feelings of inferiority at not being "chosen" for anything, the Potential's total confusion etc. etc.

The Spike / Wood arc had a similar purpose. All of it highlighted Buffy's move from Leader to General and her developing the ability to lead in a Big way.

Those themes are still being played out in Season 8, but now it is all the Scoobies who have a detached / militaristic approach to fighting what is / has always been basically a war.

I agree that it was necessary for them to fall apart, but they didn't spend enough time together beforehand. And the pulling back together was too rushed and contrived under the time constraints.

I pretty much agree with everyone else...

I greatly dislike Willow and Kennedy, and on top of that Kennedy herself. I really don't get why Joss felt the need to WAY overdo the lesbian Willow thing. (That's not going to offend anyone is it?)

I can't stand half the lesser known actresses they picked for the potentials, because, THEY CAN'T ACT! The bad fake accents, omg! >.<

I missed Giles being around too. 🙁

One of my biggest gut wrenchers is that Buffy never reinforced her "I love you" to Spike after he shot it down as true. BAH!

It was my favorite overall though, lots of Spuffy action 🙂 (Not that kind of action..) It got kind of hard to keep up with the "Oh woe is me" Buffy after a while though, and I realize that she being the chosen one and the ultimate slayer she technically IS alone, but still.. it got old. Not a big deal though just something to mention.

Agreed. This is one of the big reasons I don't believe Buffy loved Spike. 🙂

So it's okay to overdo the heterosexual stuff but not the lesbian stuff?

Yep.

Well it feels like Joss was just pushing the limits and only did it because he could, not because it was good television. The heterosexual stuff had been going on since the show started, obviously it will continue in it's final season.

I don't think that Joss was focusing on the fact that Willow is a lesbian, I think he was focusing on the idea of, life goes on and new relationships will form. It happened with other characters, and Willow happened to also have a new relationship develop. 🙂

Nice perspective!
I wonder if he chose a character like Kennedey for Willow because she was SO different from the type Willow usually went for..quiet and strong...I mean Xander, Oz and Tara all sort of let Willow be Willow, but did speak up when neccessary, but gave her the illusion of being "in charge" so to speak.

Kennedy is very different, so it's a very palpable "moving on"...not just from the grief of losing Tara, but in a new direction as a person, letting someone else be the strong one, letting someone else be the "leader" of the relationship.

I don't care for Kennedy myself, and the actresses didn't have the chemistry together that Tillow did...but I can see it as a plot device...it just came out akward due to questionable casting.

Yeah Joss has said that he paired Kennedy with Willow BECAUSE she was so different from Tara :)

Yeah, I wondered why in the talking to dead people episode we didn't get Amber...but only Tara talking through some other chick. I know the explanation they gave us, but expect that it had to do with Amber being busy with other projects, or for some reason not wanting to be there.

Does anyone know the skinny on that?

It would have been nice to see her one more time.

Now...even though I don't like Killow...the scene where Willow breaks down in anger, guilt, etc after they kiss, because she "let go" of Tara was pretty moving.
 
Amber didnt return because she didnt want to taint the fans memories of Tara by appearing as The First.
 
Joss should've offered her a script with perhaps a dream sequence, or even just a ghost.
A ghost that helps Willow through her grief ?
Im not sure but Amber was a highlight for me.

I'm sorry, but I have a hard time not seeing this view as being incredibly homophobic and more about your own discomfort with lesbian intimacy than anything relating to "good television". Willow and Tara had just as much of a loving relationship as the straight couples, and just as natural. And to say that they should have been more "restrained" is just...wrong.

Tara was S6's highlight for me as well.

I do believe, however, that Amber Benson wasn't really offered anything else (at first) except for that appearance in CWDP as the face of the first evil. Knowing how much she cared about her character (and it's really her greatest role, I guess), I doubt that she would tie herself up with other projects had there been immediate plans about somehow bringing her back in S7. But what do I know?

Weren't they supposed to bring her back in the last episode but then there was scheduling conflicts for her or something?
