Discussion of 6.07 "Once More, With Feeling" - Aired 11/6/01 (UPN-US)

I love the whole thing....It's always in my top few episodes of all time....

I think I've mentioned this on another thread, but one thing I love about this episode is when Giles tells Anya & Tara to go back Buffy up. You can only see it on the DVD I think but while they are dancing behind Buffy, Tara twirls & crashes into one of the pillars.....she then gets a fit of giggles & gets completely out of step with Anya.
(You just catch a brief view of her giggling on the cut version they show on British TV)
 
As long as we talking about singing. Who do you think was the best singer in the esp.

I think Alyson sounded okay in the group numbers, she should have had more confidence in herself. It was obvious some weren't natural singers but that didn't matter, it was just perfect overall.

ASH was amazing. He's a trained singer and has done musicals and you can tell, his voice was beautiful and he really sold the lyric. Amber was great and SMG was brilliant for a non-singer you could tell she'd worked hard on her voice. They were actually all brilliant. Also Xander was the best dancer, whenever he moved he made me laugh 🙂
 
Like you said ASH was crazy perfect . I liked Amber voice a lot but I have to say JM really blew me away with his voice . Those rock songs he sang was perfect for his voice & character . EC I really liked when she did that Bunnies rock number 😛
 
ASH and AB are really great, but my favourite is by far SMG. There is so much spit in her delivery.

Yes, this is definitely a Buffy episode for me. "Why can't I feel? My skin should crack and peel. I want the fire back."

Amber was the best singer there to me, closely followed by ASH and when they harmonised in that one song it was incredible 😀
James is a good singer too but I don't appreciate the rock genre that much so he's third.
Then Sarah.
The rest can join at fifth.
 
What made it brilliant was that they all sang, regardless of vocal talent. If they'd dubbed SMG with a trained singer it wouldn't have had the same impact. You can tell it's Buffy singing those words.
 
James was great. I love the lyric to Rest In Peace and he really sold it. By my favourite is Where Do We Go From Here

Understand we'll go hand in hand,
But we'll walk alone in fear. (Tell me)
Tell me where do we go from here.

It's just so Season 6 🙂

People were forced to sing their inner turmoil whether they wanted to or not eg Buffy's feelings on being brought back, Xander and Anya's doubts about the wedding, Spike's feelings for Buffy, Giles concerns that Buffy is relying on him to much. Willow isn't in turmoil because she feels that everything is okay because magic can solve any problem.

It is a great tune with great lyrics, but it feels a little incomplete. I would have loved for to make a version that stands better on its own.
 
Since no one has mentioned it, I'll give props to Emma Caulfield. She clearly wasn't a trained singer but did an excellent job and she did a great job really singing like the character would; her performance was exactly Anya. But ASH and AB were the best by far, and their duet is tied with Walk through the Fire for my favorites.

The version on the CD does not fade out in the middle of the last verse. Still, there is a lot of potential in that song, I think. They should also have expanded on the boyband choreography.

Which reminds me of this!

LOVE THIS EPISODE SO SO SO SO MUCH! Favorite one of this season so far.

All the songs were SUPER DUPER CATCHY. I especially love Rest in Peace (because Spike duh), Walk Through the Fire, and Standing (can we please talk about Giles's voice DANG).

CAN WE ALSO PLEASE TALK ABOUT SPIKE AND BUFFY'S FIRST KISS. That was SO great. Another reason why this episode was so wonderful to me.

This is probably the best song of the episode for me, it's just so calm and understated but really explains Giles' emotional struggle... I mean it helps that Antony Stewart Head has such a soothing and lovely voice. 🙂

The whole episode definitely gives me chills. I absolutely love the end. This is one of the best episodes of the series. I love the depth of his character. He has such a powerful multi-faceted personality.I love his backstory as well.

I agree Giles has a surprisingly amazing singing voice.
