Please God- I hope this never happens

Buffy was never going to die. It was way too profitable an enterprise, especially now with the re-invigorated vampire craze. There will be a Buffy reboot, bank on it.

I doubt it'll be any good though. I'll still see it anyway.

Oh God. I feel sick. The term "reboot" is just as bad as "reimagining". This never ends well.

YES, THIS! Anyone remember Zombie's "reimagining" of Halloween? Oh gosh!

OMG, that was great!
Lol, thought you guys might be interested in what Joss had to say about the whole thing:

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/wat...44_joss_whedon_reacts_buffy_movie_news_i.html

After Warner Bros. announced today that they are moving forward with a Buffy the Vampire Slayer "reboot""”without the involvement of the iconic mastermind behind the TV series, Joss Whedon"”I checked in with Joss for his reaction, and here's what he just shared with me via email:

Kristin, I'm glad you asked for my thoughts on the announcement of Buffy the cinema film. This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths"”just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.

Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this. My first reaction upon hearing who was writing it was, "Whit Stillman AND Wes Anderson? This is gonna be the most sardonically adorable movie EVER." Apparently I was misinformed. Then I thought, "I'll make a mint! This is worth more than all my Toy Story residuals combined!" Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?

I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don't love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I'm also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can't wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I'm making a Batman movie. Because there's a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you.

Leave me to my pain! Sincerely, Joss Whedon.

HAHAHA Oh Joss.
He couldn't possibly have written that, but it's funny.

This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.

Lol.

WHy couldn't he have possibly written it? It's pretty much dripping with Joss...
I think the most important thing is for this movie to not be a box office flop, so that the show can have the opportunity to continue (except for the comics, of course) and regain the mania it used to have

I think people should give the movie a chance though, we don't know any details yet

Honestly I don't get this thinking. We're not gonna get the show back. It's done. The actors & writers have all moved on. They're all older...again, Buffy isn't really Buffy with a 30-some year old Slayer & visibly aged vamps!

Joss' response is all over Twitter & the 'net. If it's fake, he needs to address it.

Okay, I accept it was real. I just thought it was someone making fun off us. It's just such a ... bitter? letter. Never read him be so disapointed with the other reboot, or the motion comic. I was thrown off.

If that really is Joss, he sounds.... well I don't like his reaction at all, I'll put it that way.

Lol the creator of Bones posted this lol DB's reaction 😀 He's so adorable.

I agree, it did sounds kinda bitter...

Over 200 posts at Whedonesque.
This is not even in any kind of script stage, right? With all the negative press at the moment, I don't see this going anywhere. But, we shall see.

I think there is, since I think Roven said he liked it. It's in one of the articles I think.

If I spent 13 years carefully telling the story of a character I'd created, building a huge fan base and creating one of the most compelling ongoing stories in TV history... and then, after years of fruitlessly trying to get a film made, had that creation taken from me without my consent and casually given to someone who's never even written a script before, to make the major-studio film nobody would ever give me the time of day for...

I'd be a hell of a lot more bitter than Joss lets on it that message.

ITA- and don't forget the time & effort that went into the comics season 8, plus the plans for season 9! He has a helluva lot invested in all this.

I don't have a very open mind when it comes to theft. Buffy is Joss's character. He created her, he's told her story (as writer or supervisor) for 13 years now. Warner Bros., with their tens of millions of dollars of studio money, now wants to drive all his work into obscurity and replace it with their own version. Believe me, they have no desire to make money for Fox.

No Joss, no Buffy, no exceptions. That's my opinion.

They're not trying to drive all his work into obscurity or replace it. They're actually gonna have a new take on the story of his main character.

When did he ever try to make a movie about BtVS? I know there was some talk about an Angel feature film, but that's it. And he doesn't have the rights on Buffy(the character) no? So they didn't need his consent. 😛

I just don't understand this negativity! Let's wait till we find out more about what the movie will be like before burning it to the ground.

As I said, Warner Bros. is not interested in driving Buffy DVD sales for Fox. They're hoping their version will be the New Hotness, and Joss's version will be dismissed as "old school" by everybody under 30 and forgotten about.

That's business.

This won't be *his* main character, either. It will be a character named Buffy who kills vampires, completely defined by someone else.

He's said repeatedly that he got no studio interest in doing a movie continuation or companion to BtVS. He couldn't even get that "Ripper" TV movie made. No, he doesn't have the rights, but Fox has always been smart enough to know that Buffy is Joss's baby. They give him complete creative control over the story. (As in the season 8 comics).

I just don't understand this negativity! Let's wait till we find out more about what the movie will be like before burning it to the ground.

I'm not burning it because I think it will be bad... I have no idea whether it will be a good movie or not from an objective standpoint. I think it's wrong to make any Buffy movie, good or bad, against Joss's will and without his input. There is nothing worthwhile about the character that didn't come from his writing or guidance.

I can't rep you again, but this. This is gold and this is my opinion too. I wholeheartedly agree.
