Great, make sure to invite me to it once it's up! 🙂 I can help promote it too if need be!

Yes, there were "body parts" left! CUZ HE ATE THE REST OF THEM!

And this is one instance when I am quite happy to cover my eyes and be a GIRL!

LOL, that scene was brutal. Great ep, textbook zombie stuff. Much props for the excellent ep name(Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid) too 🙂

Still let down by this episode, again a filler, the end of the world is going on right? hard to tell in this series hehe.

Less monster of the week... more revealing death and Lucifer

A month or so ago? The show has been picked up but Kripke hasn't. I'm not sure if there has been anymore said on the matter, I'm not involved in the SPN fandom at all.

It's not that Kripke hasn't been picked up, he is stepping down as the day-to-day head honcho. He apparently just signed a new deal with WB television, so the inference is that he's looking to develop a new show. Showrunning duties for season 6 of SPN will be taken over by Sera Gamble, an exec producer whose been with the show since the start. It all sounds very straightforward, the only asterisk I would put against that is I know I heard Kripke quoted somewhere as saying he always felt that SPN was a 5 season project, just can't remember exactly where that was 🙂 Anyway, the long & the short of it is we get at least another season of SPN, yay.

It was on a DVD commentary.. I heard the same.. which is why I just thought this was the last.

Kripke hasn't.
Hmm.. not sure.. did you see the allude yet again to Buffy in the zombie episode? Remember when Sam was checking in on the people? The mother was reading a Spike comic to her son on the couch.

I think it may be a bit of both. Kripke had a five year contract with the CW, the actors have 6 year contracts. I got the impression that he wasn't offered the oppertunuity to carry on.

Every second of that ep I was seeing allusions to Buffy. It was very similar to the Zeppo in my opinion.

Just the way the zombie's came back and basically carried on with their lives the way they left them off.

The scene in the scrap yard where Dean and Bobby were shotgun happy was straight out of Resident Evil Part II.

oh.. that! yeah.. I thought you meant the undertones of it.. yeah, I get that.
Okay, guys, beware. I have a rant coming. Just makin' sure everyone's all warned and whatnot.

Let me just say, I love Dean Winchester. He is the only character that I love more than Spike--and if you've seen me around here, you know that's saying something. I've written dozens of Supernatural stories about him and his brother, and I've also obsessed like nobody's business. Season 1 is love, Season 2 is golden, and even Season 3 ain't bad.

My favorite thing in the entire world about Dean is his love for his family. It has always been evident to me that, while John and Sam were very similar in their need for revenge, Dean never felt that way. He hunted because he loved John and Sam, and they were everything to him. Similarly, he protected Sam because Sam was all he had. Yes, he did it because John told him to, but that was not his only reason, which is my first complaint.

Dean loved Sam. I by no means ship Wincest, but my reason for watching the show was ALWAYS the brotherly love that existed there--the bromance, if you will. I loved his willingness to sacrifice himself for Sam, even if it led to tragedy. I loved that I could guess what he'd do the second I saw the end of All Hell Breaks Loose I. That was the Dean I knew and loved.

I excluded Seasons 4 and 5 for a reason in my earlier list. I like the angels, I like the Apocalypse--hell, I even like this vessel business. But I'm sad to say that, despite all that, the show has lost me. I enjoy it when I catch it, but I don't wait around on a Thursday night biting my nails. I've actually only watched up through Fallen Idols, and I'm not in a hurry to catch the rest.

The show just isn't about what it used to be about anymore. When Sam and Dean had that whole exchange about how it was Dean's protective nature that smothered Sam and made him feel weak (I can't remember the exact wording, but that was the gist), I nearly gave up on it. The writers basically just told me that everything I loved about Supernatural was a bad thing, and that Dean, in effect, pushed Sam to start the Apocalypse. Excuse me, but no. SAM started the Apocalypse, and he didn't do it because Dean was overbearing. He did it because he was pig-headed, arrogant and he believed he was right. Sam paved his road with good intentions, and it led him straight to hell. None of that falls on Dean's shoulders.

Then the show went and made my favorite character ever somebody who would sacrifice his friends in order to achieve his ends—even if his end was to kill Lucifer. I’m sorry, but I don’t buy it. My “Nobody kill any virgins!” Dean could never become someone like that. No way, no how.

As I said earlier, the show also really started bothering me with the, "Dean protects Sam because John told him to" nonsense. I believe that it made Dean feel like it was his job, but that was not his only reason for doing it. Dean is an older brother, and also had the weight of Sam's well-being in his hands for most of his life. That wasn't a burden he ever took lightly. He loved his family, and he was used to being responsible to Sam. In the same way a father will always be protective of his child, Dean would never stop feeling like Sam's safety is his responsibility.

My point is, this is what I loved. I love imagining Dean going to parent-teacher nights while John played the absent father role, and I loved each moment where Dean displayed his love and devotion for his family. Now that's barely even a part of the show. The plot's gotten so weighed down with angels and the end of the world that it doesn't focus on Sam and Dean anymore.

I mean, really, Dean talking crap about Sam on the phone with Bobby while Sam’s out of the room? What is that? They still have a relationship, obviously, but it's no longer the "do anything and sacrifice anything" bond that I loved.

This rant took shape when I was trying to figure out why I didn't love the show the way I used to. Now that I've figured it out, I'm unbelievably frustrated, and I also want to go back to the beginning and find my obsession for it again. But tell me, guys, does it get better farther down the season?

Also, Dean's voice annoys the hell out of me now. I hate saying it, because I love Jensen to death, but what on earth is that man thinking? I hear him and all I can do is pray that he won't eventually start sounding like Christian Bale in The Dark Knight.

I don't agree with what you have said either, but I totally understand where you are coming from. Good post:)
Well if you mean do Sam and Dean become besties again and act like all the wedges between them don't exist, then no. I own't even pretend that I am a huge SPN fan, I really enjoy the show and I adore Dean but I am certainly not invested in it like Buffy or Angel.

Just a couple things you mentioned, first off Dean has absolutely shown himself to be willing to make life and death decisions if it meant saving his family. Remember back in Croatoan when he was willing to kill those people when he thought they were infected with the virus, he didn't actually know at the time, but when the others wanted to do that same when they thought Sam was posing a threat, he was having none of it.

As far as their relationship goes I think it has to be this way. Dean and Sam, Dean especially, had one of the most destructive co-dependant relationships I have ever seen. That isn't right. Even if their relationship was not destrcutive in its nature people don't stay the same and Sam and Dean were never going to stay the same bantering brothers that we fell in love with. The beauty in their relationship is that they have destroyed each other, truly messed each other's lives up on a monumental level and they somehow still manage to work together, to fight for each other and be brothers. It's easy to stick together in the good times, but going through the trials they have and coming out on the other side is what makes their relationship special.

I think it was recently at a convention that a fan asked if Sam & Dean's relationship could ever go back to how it was in season 1, and the answer was obviously no. I don't dislike Sam but it is essentially his fault that the relationship fell apart like it did, he chose a demon over his own brother, his brother who had been there for him whenever he needed him so I don't think anyone can expect Dean to trust Sam as much or feel the same about him as he did in the beginning, and if that is what you want from the show then you're probably out of luck.

You should definitely not stop watching after Fallen Idols, even if the main reason you enjoy the show is because of the brothers relationship, there are still some amazing episodes later on in the season that you should not miss.

SAM started the Apocalypse, and he didn't do it because Dean was overbearing. He did it because he was pig-headed, arrogant and he believed he was right. Sam paved his road with good intentions, and it led him straight to hell. None of that falls on Dean's shoulders.
Dean had a role to play in the start of the apococalypse, as did Cas, so you cannot just blame Sam. If Dean hadn't broken that first seal, and if Cas hadn't let Sam out of the panic room, then Sam wouldn't have had the oppertunity to break the last seal.
The plot's gotten so weighed down with angels and the end of the world that it doesn't focus on Sam and Dean anymore.
I personally think last night's episode proved that it's still the Sam-and-Dean show, them against the world.
I mean, really, Dean talking crap about Sam on the phone with Bobby while Sam’s out of the room? What is that?
This is one of the only bits I agree with you on, haha, I do feel that was kind of out of character.
Also, Dean's voice annoys the hell out of me now. I hate saying it, because I love Jensen to death, but what on earth is that man thinking? I hear him and all I can do is pray that he won't eventually start sounding like Christian Bale in The Dark Knight.
I also agree with this, lol, the Batman voice is just ridiculous, I don't even know when it started but ughhh it's annoying.

Sorry I type too much 😛.

Hah, I am. Or used to be. I even used to like it more--wait, no, forget I said anything!

Well, he didn't technically kill the kid, but he may have if Sam hadn't had the vision and told him not to. But not letting anyone kill Sam didn't endanger anyone but himself, since everyone took off right after that. But I still don't believe--or perhaps just don't want to believe--that Dean would turn into the person that he was in the future. Obviously Present Dean doesn't want to either, and it was more or less a warning for him. Still, I didn't appreciate it.

One of Buffy's flaws is selfishness, but would you like to see her go to the future and find she had turned her back on her duty and everything she fought for to be with Angel or to have a normal life or something? That's a little how I felt.

As far as their relationship goes I think it has to be this way. Dean and Sam, Dean especially, had one of the most destructive co-dependant relationships I have ever seen. That isn't right. Whoa, interesting take. I agree that they depended too heavily on each other, and Dean's issues did make it dangerous, but they didn't destroy each other. They destroyed themselves--that is, Dean destroyed Dean and Sam destroyed Sam. I disagree with how negatively you've drawn their relationship, and as I said, it's one of the parts I loved about the show.

Well, Dean did sacrifice himself, which damaged himself and certainly hurt his brother. I can see Dean's side in it, too, but Sam essentially acted from a selfish, arrogant need to take control of the situation. He thought he was right, and he wasn't, and now everybody's dealing with the consequences of it.

You should definitely not stop watching after Fallen Idols, even if the main reason you enjoy the show is because of the brothers relationship, there are still some amazing episodes later on in the season that you should not miss.
I know! I do want to catch up. I just... haven't had the motivation. I'll try to watch a few episodes tonight!

Very true--I never meant to imply Dean didn't have his place in it. I just meant to say how much I didn't like that conversation, in which a lot of the blame for their current predicament was placed on Dean's shoulders. Sam essentially said, "You made me feel weak and I wanted to feel strong." That's entirely possible, but that doesn't mean it was Dean's fault that Sam went off without listening to anybody.

Sorry I type too much 😛.
No need to be sorry! I like discussion.

I really liked the latest episode.
I was so happy to see Ash again! I almost squealed out loud, lol. And it was really cool to see Pamela aswell 😀

The episode before this one was pretty good too, totally gross yes, but zombies are always fun, lol. Although poor Bobby 🙁. Just randomly, when Dean said ""Great, another horseman. Must be Thursday." I immediately thought "Dawn's in trouble, must be Tuesday" lol.

Haha, wow! I've never really gotten much opposition about my views on Supernatural before. Granted, I haven't posted at my SPN board in a long time, but generally people agreed with me there. It makes me reevaluate my opinions when people don't, which is good, if frustrating! =P
