Swedish 101?

Thanks you guys... I dunno.. general words, like School, Food, Family-ties.. knäckebröd... no wait, never mind that last one, I already know 😉
 
Okey some random words and sentences..

School = Skola
Math = Matte
History = Historia
English = Engelska

Food = Mat
Eat = à„ta
Breakfast = Frukost
Lunch = Lunch
Dinner = Middag
Macaroni = Makaroner (instant macaroni = snabbmakaroner)
Rice = Ris
Fruit = Frukt

In school we learn math = I skolan lär vi oss matte
What do you want to eat? = Vad vill du äta?
 
So strange, the syntax in both "Vad vill du äta?" and "I skolan lär vi oss matte." is exactly the same as in Dutch... But, what does oss mean... us?!

How about teaching us (or me) how to order food? Nice food... I don't eat meat, so forget about that 😉

Or maybe some typically Swedish things?
 
Ooooh no. Swedish :'D I suck with that. I really have to come here to ask answers to my homeworks.. (I'm from Finland and of course, out here we have Swedish in our schools..)

Us = Oss

Okey, I don't eat meat either so that's no prob 😉
I want a veggie burger = Jag vill ha en vegetarisk burgare
Can I have some soup? = Kan jag få lite soppa?
Do you have any vegetarian food? = Har du/ni någon vegetarisk mat?

Heh, and yea sure we'll help with the homework!
 
It feels like you guys are learning way to few bad language phrases so here's one.

Din mamma! = Your mother!
Nej din mamma! = No your mother!

We should learn how to sing "Små grodorna, små grodorna" becuase it doesn't get more Swedish than that.

Well, maybe you could find us the lyrics and maybe even an audio file online... perhaps you could even try to explain what it means 😉
 
It's this song about Small Frogs (Små grodorna) and the fact that they are funny to look upon, then there are a few moves to it and oh I almost forfot, you need a pole that you can dance around and not the stripping, but midsummer kind.

I'll have a look around and see if I can get my hands on a file.

Heh, yea never heard the mentor thing either.. And Umeå is a town in Sweden, and I got no idea how to get the cute little cirkle if you don't have a key for it..

Heh, what du you say we record ourself singing and dancing "små grodorna" on sämskinn-träffen, and then we can show everyone what it is? 😀

There's supposed to be this html tag you can use to get the à…å but can't remember it. Or you could just copy and paste.

The "cute little circle" thing can be found in Windows Character Map (on my PC Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map, then Select and Copy the appropriate character thusly - å.) You can also get there if you know the appropriate keystrokes for the ANSI characters but Character Map is much easier - trust me 😉 Any of our Swedish members care to tell me what that particular accent is called? - preferably in English 🙂
 
It's not an accent, but a member of the Swedish alphabet. Granted it's one of those in the end åäö, but still a letter. And it's pronounced oh well kinda anyway.

Thanks JA - I didn't realise that it was a whole separate letter - I thought it was an accent like the French é.

Well, how about maybe some quotes from Buffy? How about we turn this into a little game... to test whether the non-swedish are picking up on things... you take very easy quotes from the show and let us figure out what the original English version was?
