The Gunn Chronicles

" I saw your reactions to the things everyone said so I knew you knew English and no, you're safe. Buffy doesn't even know I'm alive. So why are you running from the Scoobies anyways? I mean, I'm not up to date with this because , you know being dead and in Angel's crew and everything." Spike glanced at the demons in the bar and could tell that at least two of them were still staring and trying to eavesdrop. So Spike glared at them. The demons stopped trying to listen almost immediately. Spike focused on Chao-Ahn again.

Chao-Ahn gave Spike a look that said he was dumb " Do you not hear what they were saying & doing in that house ? " she said before shaking her head at Spike She gathered her thoughts while kicking her black high tops against the bar lightly wondering why Buffy always had to dress up to go hunting.

" First of all Mr Giles was the one who though i couldn't speak English He tried Chinese & when i used Cantonese he said something rude under his breath " she told Spike "Then he tried to give me ice cream which was offensive since he old enough to be my father & also i lactose intolerant.

My Watcher knew i spoke English so why did he think i didn't " she said getting louder as she spoke "You want to hear what i found out at the house " she said giving Spike a look before drinking the rest of her beer & taping the bar for another beer.

"After what i heard they lucky i didn't smack a few people & believe me when you hear what i heard you want to as well " She told Spike .

((OOC: Way to go guys! The writing is top notch. It's time to turn up the heat a little. Remember, like real life, if you're not near the action, you won't know whats happening.))

Gunn listened carefully as she spoke. As the sun was now well below the horizon, the glowing traffic lights and those of other cars seemed to cast a calm illumination on their drive. LA was a car town, where there seemed to be more machines, more wheels, and more devices then living breathing people. To drive with someone gave you a sense that you were not alone in all that inhumanity. A connection that wasn't about anything other then that moment, that pause between where you were... and where you were going.

"Me & B is....complicated"

Gunn had to stifle a laugh. Who was this mysterious Buffy? For a woman he'd never met, she seemed to have quite the ripple effect on so many people in his life. One day he was going have to meet this woman, just to see what all the fuss was about. Faith was a beautiful complicated woman, and she was also tough inside and out, it was alluring, but there was a job to do.

"S'no fun killin bad guys if there's no one around to see how awesome you look doin' it"

"Truer words were never spoken."
He said with a smile. He could sense Faith's blood lust was up, he'd heard that slayers had to slay, sort of an instinct, like a star player who couldn't help but perform.

It felt good to be back to a mission again, getting past the insanity of the LA Hellscape, and getting back to plain ol' regular insanity. He'd never figured on working with someone as scarred as Faith. Angel was a vampire, he healed, he rose, he cruised through life as an immortal being.

"...can't really call it a 'team' if you're the only one in it!"

"Well you always got a place here. You were there for us in the dark when we needed you most, and in my book that makes you blood. Pardon the pun." He said smirked.

Faith was different, powers and all she was still like him, able to be hurt, carrying the trauma and the pain of life in a way that was not at all invisible. Still he felt honored, humbled even, that she would consider him something akin to a worthy ally. It was a step better then he felt he deserved.

"Well, Ms. Chu is an old friend, she's lives out in Chinatown now. she always used to keep my crew and me fed. We helped keep her place clear from the bloodsuckers, and other things that weren't very nice, and she'd supply us with all the dumplings she could eat. She calls when she something weird going down," He said as he turned off the highway an on to a darker street with a few signs in Chinese...

384c61fa644c9c2d9e9f981aaabab2f9.jpg

"She's no connection to the powers that be, but her family goes way back, used to fight vampires in China, she tells the craziest stories-" He looked over and saw Faith had zoned out a bit.

"Now... as far as killing is concerned, I wouldn't worry about it too much yet... I mean this is LA, there's bound to be something sooner- !!"
He paused as something in the road caught his eye.

A flaming car rolled across the road in front of them, coming from an alley near Chu's place. Gunn wrenched the wheel hard.

"HOLD ON!" He yelled, as the Truck clipped the back end of the flaming car. It went on two wheels, nearly catching air, then slammed on it's driver side door. The sound of crunching metal and smashing glass was accompanied by sparks as the heavy truck slid a few dozen meters until colliding with a metal post.

There was a moment of silence, as Gunn tried to come back to sense. The truck was sturdy enough to survive just about anything, and their seat-belts had kept the injuries to minor cuts.

Outside a crowd of nine figures approached, all wore dark suits and sunglasses, each bore a sword or a weapon. A mix of men and women, they all shared another trait, the same pale skin tone. They surrounded the truck, and stood waiting as if waiting for orders.

"Hello, Mr. Gunn..." said a short stocky man at the back of the pack. He had white hair, and odd looking cane with the head of a screaming demon in silver. He did not look human. As Gunn came to his senses, he looked to see what the easiest way to free himself would be. He looked up at Faith, seeing her position made it easier for her to get out first.

"Break time's... over." He stated as he struggled to get out.

Faith swore as the Truck skidded to a halt against the post. Pausing only to glance down at Gunn to make sure he was ok, she braced herself & popped the seatbelt.
The rear window of the cab had gone so she swung herself out & clutching the axe in both hands headed straight for the nearest Vamps.

"Sooner than I expected, but Hell I ain't complainin!" She growled as she moved.

The nearest two Vamps seemed to hesitate, as if afraid to move against her without orders, but that didn't stop their faces changing when they saw the feral grin on
Faith's face. She stopped inches away from the first Vamp, it's yellow eyes watching her nervously.

"Well, we gonna fight or what?" she said frowning.

The short guy with the cane gave a high pitched laugh.

"Seriously?" He chuckled, "We've come for Mr Gunn here. I've no interest in you little Girl, but if you don't step aside you are going to become dinner for my pack."

Faith's eyes flashed anger. In a blur of movement too quick for the Vamp to react she lifted the axe, gripping it by both ends of the shaft & rammed it into the face
of the nearest Vamp smashing his sunglasses into his eyes & breaking his nose, in the same movement she let go of the blade end & swung the axe out in an arc decapitating both him & the Female Vamp to her right.
Scanning the scene, she threw the axe off further to her right, where it embedded itself deep in the chest of another Vamp, before moving towards a group of three more
near the front of the truck. She ducked under a wild swing from a Vamp with a short sword, connected with a hard backhander before grabbing him round the neck
& pulling him in front of her like a shield. She just had time to turn him towards the next attacker so he took the axe blade in the chest instead of her.
The Vamp screamed in pain as Faith pushed him towards the Axeman, relieving him of his sword in the process.

That was too close....That axe nearly took my arm off, gotta even the odds a bit. she thought as she pulled a stake out of a pocket in her jacket.

The Vamp with the axe was still trying to pull it out of the other ones chest so she moved towards the third one, parrying her sword thrust then smashing the hilt of
her own sword into the Vamps face. As she staggered backwards Faith jammed her stake home & she exploded into a cloud of dust.
As Faith turned back, number two had given up trying to retrieve his axe & she took a fist to the face that knocked her back. He got in a second good hit before she
could react & she tasted the iron tang of blood in her mouth.
Grinning wildly she piled into him with a series of solid hits to the face & one to the gut sending him staggering back. Taking advantage of his momentary loss of
balance she plunged her stake home dusting him before he could recover. Then twisting she grabbed the axe still embedded in the chest of the first Vamp & dusted
him too, pulling the axe free in the process.
She glanced over towards the truck.

"You figuring on joining in any time soon dude?" she called as she looked around to see where the last three Vamps had gone......

Gunn struggled to get himself out as Faith freed herself with a swiftness that only a super human could pull off. Must be nice, he said to himself musing about the convenience that being a supernatural killer with the face of an angel must be. As he scrambled to pull him self up to the open window, he heard the commotion of the fight already in progress. Who would want to take him out? The hellscape was over, no one accept himself and handful of others even remembered what went down. He'd heard that the recent slayer influx had caused a lot of motion in the literal underworld, but he wasn't a player, not at that level... so what-

Save the speculation for later Chuck...

As he pulled himself up, he could see Faith pull free an axe from a vampire that exploded in a cloud of dust. She looked his direction...

"You figuring on joining in any time soon dude?" Faith said to him, he almost had time to smile, when a tall male vamp came towards Faith from a direction she didn't see due to the overturned truck. Pulling his coat sleeve back, Gun revealed a small stake gun on his wrist, and moment later wooden stake flew from his wrist and nailed the vampire dead in the chest. His dust showered towards his intended target, and by the time Faith felt it coming, the vampires ashes had almost dispersed.

"It's all in the timing." Gunn said with a twinkle in his eye. He didn't have time to revel in the kill however, as he was pulled the rest of the way from the overturned truck by a female vamp who throw him up and out to the ground on the other side of the truck.

A slow clap came from the odd man, who seemed to revel in the show.

"A slayer? A brilliant surprise... you are as advertised." He said, he said as if calmly playing a game of chess.

"Glad to keep you entertained... you got a name creep, cause you owe me a truck." He said as he got to his feet seemingly unarmed.

"I apologize Mr Gunn, but I cannot allow you to survive. Your new life, your business, your mission... must end, before it begins." The white haired stranger said, his eyes obscured by dark sunglasses. His voice was low and direct, and his accent was clearly french.

"Can't allow...?" Gun said puzzled.

The strangely white haired man slammed his can down and ordered something briskly as he turned to leave, and several more vampires stepped into Faith's path. Now faced three to one, the vampires eagerly attacked Faith. Clearly though, the attacks were merely to keep her busy.

Meanwhile Gunn had his hands full, the female vamp was joined by a partner a taller male with a prominent mohawk, and they both bore down on him with fury, bouncing back to his feet he blocked the first few attacks, then ducked and staked the first vampire when she presented an opening. The other attacked presently, knocking Gunn backwards into the side of the truck. His impact dented the roof slightly. Staggered by the impact, he fell to one knee, as the larger stronger vamp closed in for the kill.

"Time to die human." the vampire said to him hungrily.

Faith saw Gunn raise his arm & something shot out from a device strapped to his wrist. It narrowly missed her arm before slamming into something just behind her.
The tell tail puff of Vamp dust told he all she needed to know.

"It's all in the timing." he said with a slight grin.

She was about to shoot a snarky comment back when he was hauled from the truck by a Female Vamp & thrown across the narrow road. Faith readied herself to help
but the expected attack didn't happen. Instead the weird boss dude spoke to Gunn directly.
She silently watched the exchange. The white haired freak spoke with a strange accent. French?
He seemed to know Gunn, or know of him & made it clear he intended killing him.... Not while I'm around creep.....

Suddenly he jabbed his cane against the ground & barked out an order & three more bloodsuckers ran up & got right in Faith's face.

"Looks like we get to party with a Slayer!" Leered one, a tall Vamp built like a linebacker.

Faith snorted.
"Nah, I think you must be looking for the other Slayer, y'know the Blonde one? She's the one that likes to party with dead guys!"

As she spoke she broadcast a move towards the short Vamp on her right. The Vamp to her left fell for it totally & lunged at her, meeting her outstretched arm,
holding a stake, coming the other way.

"Oh Fu......" was all he managed as his eyes went wide & he dusted.

Even as he exploded in a cloud of dust she took a swing at the Big Vamp, but he saw it coming & darted back out of range. Faith knew this would leave her open
to the other Vamp & sure enough a fist slammed hard into the side of her head. She staggered backwards the Vamp following trying to get another shot at her.
Even though it had hurt, taking the hit had separated the two remaining Vamps so she could take them on one at a time.
She acted dazed, not too far from the truth, that punch was like getting hit by a truck, and the Vamp closed in with a grin thinking he had her.
Just as he went to grab her she slapped his hand away & headbutted him in the face hard, shattering his nose. He screamed & reeled back holding his face in pain.
Faith quickly swung her axe cleaving the Vamps head cleanly from his shoulders along with both hands. Four separate clouds of dust floated away on the evening breeze.

The last Vamp had watched all this & now closed in slowly. Cautiously looking for an opening.

"Still lookin to party? Cos if you do there's one thing you oughta know." grinned Faith.

She stepped forward raising the axe & taking a big swing at his neck. The Vamp leaned back like something out of 'The Matrix' & the axe passed inched from his
throat, missing it's target. But as he straightened up Faith kicked him hard, her heavy boot connecting with his groin with a sickening crack. He doubled over sucking
in air with a strangled groan. She put her hand on the back of his head.

"I fight dirty!" she sneered & plunged the stake into his back dusting him.

She moved around the stricken truck to check Gunn was ok......

She didn't know how long she had been running for. It felt like forever. Isabella had been so careful or so she thought. She never stayed in one place for too long, it was just too risky. But it wasn't until she'd arrived in Phoenix that everything changed and for the worst.

Isabella had been so distracted by her own thoughts she didn't hear the sound of someone knocking on the dingy motel room door. The second more frantic of a knock caused her to jump, a slight raspy cry escaped her lips. Isabella didn't have to look through the peephole to know who it was. She had been found. It was Olivette.

The last time she had encountered Olivette the year was 1678 and Isabella had been tortured by her and her two sisters for weeks. You see Isabella was and still is an immensly powerful witch. Olivette and her sisters were part of the Grand Coven and they wanted Isabella to join them. Isabella had refused leading to the torture. If they couldn't have her no one would.

Fast forward three hundred and thirty nine years later, death was literally on the other side of this door. Isabella was far from weak but she knew she had to run, if she didn't she would surely die.

Suddenly the motel room door flew off it's hinges blasting thick jagged splinters across the floor.

"Isabella." Olivette's silky voice crooned. "The years have been kind to you."

"Wish I could say the same for you." It shocked Isabella how venomous her voice sounded.

"You know this is the only way Isabella. You knew this day would come eventually." It wasn't a question, more of a statement really.

Or course she knew. She had been waiting for deaths sweet release for centuries now. But did Olivette really think she'd come empty handed?

"Ego voco impetu delere, vos caelum et infernum!"

The room filling momentarily with a bright purple blaze hit Olivette square in the chest. She was down but not permantely. Isabella acted immediately, she knew she didn't have long. Throwing what little belongings she had left she slung her duffel bag over her shoulder and exited via the window.

So now here she was. Los Angeles, City of Angels. That's were Isabella's feet had taken her and right now she needed help. Turning a corner, the piece of paper in her hands soggy from the rain she struggled to read the faded words. Isabella's eyes widened, her mouth turning up slightly at the corners. There it was. Finally. The building was embedded from all the other buildings that it was easy to miss. Anticipation caused her to stall before the desperation kicked in. With a trembling fist Isabella pounded the front door.

"Come on, come on..." With what seemed like forever the door finally opened. The man standing before her looked at her with hesitancy in his chocolate coloured eyes.

"Charles Gunn I presume?" The aura of confidence was obvious.

"My name is Isabella and I need your help."

So this is what my character looks like

And this is how she looks when using magic

"Time to die human..." the vampire said as the fellow with the white hair had disappeared, and now a crackle of lighting lit his face and the surroundings as the night storm began to really poor it on. Suddenly in the darkness he could see still more vampires, at least three closing in on him. The rain poured, the thunder rolled and his mind reeled back to a time and place...

---

A few months earlier... LA - Gunn's Office - 11:00 PM

Rain streamed down the windows, a steady even rain that seemed to drench everything, soak in everywhere. This was week two... He'd had zero cases, accept for a vampire report that had turned out to be a guy in a Lestat costume. Gunn had been half tempted to stake him anyways, just for authenticity. But it was as if the Vamp's were all lying low. The surge of slayers may have been to blame, but Gunn hadn't even heard of one within the city limits. Something was up, and he was damned unsure of what it was.

Gunn barely had closed his eyes moments earlier, tired from reading the Hart Codex that Wesley had left for him specifically marked with citations that he thought were important. Gunn had struggled with the translations, having neither the patience of his old friend, or the years of training at a Watcher school. It was like reading Greek, except Greek didn't generally cause things to burst into flames. Still the flyers had gone out, and with or without magical expertise, he was going to get to work. He just needed something... anything... even-

The knock was loud. Someone was desperate... or insane. Considering a third option, Gunn grabbed a small axe from the side of the desk, and headed downstairs. Opening the door, he saw a woman, drenched, looking as if she had the weight of several worlds on her shoulders.

"Charles Gunn I presume?" The aura of confidence was obvious.

"My name is Isabella and I need your help."

"Is that right? I get that it must be urgent from the soaping wetness...but if you don't mind-" He quickly pulled a small cross from his neck and held it out to see if she flinched. There was no reaction, and he took another half moment before he relented. He noted the flyer in her hand, the one that said very simply. "Need help with the supernatural... We help the helpless." with the address.

"Didn't peg you as the fanged kind, but you can never be too careful." He said, not elaborating, as he put the cross back.

"You can come in... and wipe your feet, I just mopped." He said cautiously, opening a small closet near the door of the small office, from it he retrieved a well worn towel and tossed it to her.

"Here. Dry off, take a breath, then tell me what it is you need." He said as he guided her into the small interior office and closed the Hart Codex.

----

Gunn, staggered by the blow, waited a moment before bracing himself on the car. The vampires came on, fully enraged, Gunn fended off one punch and then another. He thought to ask for help, but he could hear Faith engaged in battle herself, the last thing she needed was a distraction. He'd learned that in all his battles with Angel. He buried his knee in the closest Vamp's chest, causing the creature bend forward, retrieving his last stake from his jacket the one he used on Alonna all those years before and dusted the creature. Another vampire came from behind, and Gunn aware of the flanking style favored by so many foul fiends elbowed the beast in the head, causing him to clutch his face. Gunn couldn't follow up the attack however, as another vamp delivered a punch to Gunn's face, and then another, sending him reeling back to the truck. He fell to the wet asphalt, next to him an old wooden stake bat had come from inside the cab, and it lay there like answer to a prayer.

As the vampire came in, gun caught him by surprise. Stabbing the sharpened end into his eye, then slamming the vaguely grotesque creature with another stab in the chest. The beast dusted, and vanished into nothingness. The last vamp was female, stronger, and faster then the first few, she had picked her opening perfectly. Knocking the stake from his hand, she delivered a roundhouse kick to Gunn, sending him to the ground once more. Wiping his face with one hand, he smeared the small amount of blood from the powerful kick he had taken that had busted his lower lip. Tasting the coppery black fluid, he spit, then smiled.

"What the hell are you smiling about? You're still gonna die." The last female vampire said seemingly un-phased by the loss of the others, as another roll of thunder came in.

"It's just funny, some vamps are lucky, they live for three hundred years, get souls, hell some even get to vacation in the Himalayas, and the unlucky ones?" Gunn asked musing through the rain.

"They get led into a battle with a slayer who kills more vampires in a night then they've met in their whole sorry existence; as well as a man who lived through two apocalypses, and seen both sides of the fangs."

"I'm so going to eat you, I don't care what Mr. Fantôma says,-" She began almost charging in before Gunn cut her off.

"So you got me wonderin', what higher power did you piss off to be right here, right now..." Gunn said truly amused at what he saw coming from behind the vampire.

Choe -anh looked up from thr bottle she was looking at as she had a feeling something was happing near the bar . She had gotten used toacting on those feelings since it was like she was getting messages from the universe about what was up . She was glad she haddn't goten any Slayer visions since after everything she had heard they were sent by the PTB & that was a good describition of them since they seemed like the Chinise goods & were more insteared in themselves instead of the humans under them .

She took off her ring & put it on the bar since that was how she paid for her drinks here " Spike" she said to him . "Something happing & i think we should check ity out " she said getting ready to leave the bar & check out whst was going on a few bloock away she thought it was since she was just having a feeling & nothing more.
---------------------------------------------
Cho-anh saw there was a fight going on with a bunch of Vampires & what looked like two people . One of them looked familer but she didn't look again to make sure . The second was a black guy who seemed lucky since even thought he was being used as a punching bag was still moving .

She ran down there as fast as she could & on getting there slid out of her Jacket & jumped in . Her sneakers made no sound as ran into the fight the short sleeves shirt she was wearing showing off her arms & the stakes she were wearing straped to them

The hilt of her sword pocking over one shoulder as she grabbed the necklace around her neck & pulled as she stacked the female vamp & after she went into dust looked Gunn in the face holding the necklace in one hand & the stake in the other .

"What are you doing here . This is my turf " she snapped at him in English .

Flashback LA - Gunn's Office - 11:03 PM

7f14fbcd6db206960d22221fa1288b04.jpg

Isabella grabbed the towel a little bit too enthusiastically wringing her matting locks thanking Charles in the process. He was still eying her suspiciously, his glare bothered her somewhat. It wasn't until she saw her reflection in the window that she understood why. Her usual blonde hair looked almost black thanks to the torrential rain. The circles under her eyes had a hollow look to them, as if she were an extra in some crappy low budget zombie movie. The clothes she wore clung to her slender frame, damp and in some places soaked. If she didn't change soon she would start to smell and she didn't want that.

Taking a few deep breaths Isabella let herself wind down, the first time she'd done that in a long time. It was true Olivette was still after her but Isabella calculated that she was safe for at least a day. Two if she were lucky.

The man before her was still watching probably getting impatient. Understandable really but whatever, he'd have to wait. His dark eyes were kind but behind that was the evident glare of loss. At least that would be one thing they had in common with.

She took another deep breath composing her self one last time looking straight into his eyes. She wanted to look geniune, Isabella wanted Charles to trust her. If he didn't she'd be back to square one. She took her place at the wooden yet comfy looking seat leaning her forearms on the desk in front of her. Isabella arched one eyebrow to the book slightly to the left of her. The gesture had been quick, Charles would not have noticed.

"I get it, I really do. I wouldn't trust me if I were you but please you have to listen. That's all I ask of you right now." Isabella kept her voice quiet yet calm. Charles nodded slightly, an indication for her to continue.

"I'm in trouble Mr Gunn and I heard from a little birdie that you're the man for the job. Besides you help me and I can return the favour." Isabella's head bobbed towards the book on the desk. Charles eyes flitted from the book and back to her.

"That's the Hart Codex isn't it? And I'm pretty sure you're having some difficulty with some of the translations?" The smirk on her face was evident but she didn't laugh. She didn't want to piss him off just yet.

"I actually had the very same book in my possession back in the late 1800's. I can be very helpful to you Mr Gunn. So what do you say? You in?"

*Hope you don't mind me using your office picture.*

Spike slammed his forehead on the bar and just kept his head down. He ranting about everything that's happened. " It's bloody stupid is what that is I mean who else does that?" Looking up to Chao- Ahn for her answer. But she wasn't there. Spike figured she left while he was talking and decided to find her. So he slammed the money on the bar , put his blanket on then left. He walked out of the bar then out of the alley and closed his eyes and smelled the air for her scent. Her scent smelled of liquor and noodles. Great, Spike thought, now I want noodles. He followed the trail of her scent to a road. There were 3 figures, 1 guy and 2 girls who he quickly realized that they were Gunn, Faith , and Chao-Ahn. He also saw that they just dusted some vamps.

Faith rounded the truck just in time to see the last Vamp get dusted by some new chick. It was hard to tell from this distance through the rain that was now
falling heavily, but she sure looked like a Slayer & she seemed to be talking to Gunn.
Faith turned back to where the White haired dude had been, but there was no sign of him, he had got away.
Scanning the area she was just about to head back over to Gunn & his new Slayer when something caught her attention. Her Slayer vision picked up a pair of
yellow eyes peering at her from behind the now smoking wreckage of the car that had caused them to crash.
Realising he had been spotted he stepped out into the open & started moving slowly towards her. He must have still been in highschool when he was turned,
he looked like a kid. Faith hated it when they looked like children, but she knew he died long before & what she could see was just the Demon that killed him.

"Where did that White haired dude go?" She demanded as she strode towards him.

He looked scared, his yellow eyes darting about, probably looking for help, but all the other Vamps were toast. Suddenly he turned tail & ran as fast as his legs
would carry him. There was no way Faith was chasing him in this downpour, she was soaked enough as it was. With a curse she drew back her arm & threw
the stake she was holding at the retreating figure.
She saw the stake hit home, striking him right in the middle of his back, but nothing happened & he kept on running.

"Huh!" Grunted Faith, frowning in disbelief. How,d I miss? Sure I hit the sweet spot.

As she watched he ran to the end of the block & went to turn the corner. As he did so his feet slipped out from underneath him on the wet sidewalk & he fell flat
on his back instantly turning into a black smear of wet Vamp dust on the corner.

She shook her head. "Man these bloodsuckers are dumb!"

Pausing only to retreive the Axe she had brought with her from Gunn's place that was still buried deep in the chest of the Vamp where she had thrown it, she
staked what was left of it's heart & made her way round the upturned truck to the others.
Gunn was talking to the new arrival.

"This the Slayer we were lookin for? " She asked as she approached.

They both turned to look at her & her eyes went wide.

"Cho-Ahn?"

Gunn stood up, surveying the face of young woman who saved his life. For half a moment he thought Faith had pulled of some sort of magic, being in two places at once. Then as the haze from the latest blow faded he realized that this was not the second most experienced slayer who'd come to his rescue. He stood their silently, unsure if this new one was safe.

"Thanks, that was... close." He said catching his breath as the rain began to tapper off. "Names Gunn, Charles Gunn. You got a name?" He asked plainly, as he recovered his short sword from his truck.

"This the Slayer we were lookin for?" Faith asked, "Cho-Ahn?"

"You know her?" Gunn asked curiously.

Faith nodded silently saying surprisingly little, especially for her.

"A little slayer reunion...it touches the heart really." He quipped sarcastically.

"So... you're the armed and dangerous Ms. Chu called about. You got folks mighty scared around here. Come back to the office, we'll talk about getting you setup." Gunn said plainly.

There were many slayers now, but somehow, two of them randomly finding each other in the big wide world, still felt like some sort of destined occurrence. It made him think of yet another meeting, one that he was just as ill-prepared for.

Months Earlier: Angel Investigation's - Downtown Office

"I actually had the very same book in my possession back in the late 1800's. I can be very helpful to you Mr Gunn. So what do you say? You in?"

"Whoa... Ms. English, slow down." Gunn said as he slid the book back on to the shelf, and turned back around. Leaning against the desk. Gunn gave the girl another once over. Now inside the warm and dry office, she took on new dimensions. She looked young, attractive, but all travel worn and experienced. There was a certain way that she moved and talked gave him a sense that she was much older then she let on. He clicked the button on a cheap coffee maker in the corner, and turned as he grabbed a coffee cup with the words. "World's Best Rogue Demon Hunter" he'd given to Wesley years earlier and gotten out of storage when he opened the new place.

"I'm going to have coffee...then we talk, you know, like humans?" Gunn asked calmly, it was midnight after all, and it was clear she needed his full attention.

"Now, I'm always up for work, and it's true I could use a job. Between rent, bills, and a very temperamental fish, I need cash. But I need a few more detail first." Gunn said as he folded his arms and continued. As he prepared a second cup for surprise guest. This cup had the words "My Other Mug Is in Another Dimension." the hot black coffee had tendrils of warm steam curling off the top, and smelled columbian. He handed it to her and sat down in an adjacent chair. After a few sips, he spoke.

"First off, I don't do blood sacrifices, or rituals that involve raising the dead without a waiver first. Got flat rates for dealing with vamps, and I charge extra for demons 'cause you never know what little surprises they have in store. Now if you need an ingredient, I might know a few places, but you clear the details of the spell with me first, or it's the door." Gunn said plainly, speaking with all the experience and training a former lawyer for big evil, and a current professional demon hunter had at his disposal.

"So, you wanna tell me why a powerful..." he paused, sizing her up a little more "I'm going to say sorceress... needs the help of wee bitty human like me?" He said as took another sip and waited for the woman to give a more then just a name and a serial number.

---

As the storm clouds died down the occasional roll of thunder was still present, and now he saw another face in the distance. This however was a familar one. Gunn did a double take.

"Spike? Well if it ain't the blond British bomber himself... You look..." He paused, taking stock of the blonde vampire with a soul.

"Exactly same. You know if it wasn't for the whole losing a soul and become evil deal, being a vampire would make a hell of an infomercial." he quipped sardonically, and with a smile as he gave a fist bump to the only other vamp with a soul.

It was then a small pillar of black smoke appeared in front of the group. It grew larger until it was about the size of a small humanoid, then solidified into the shape of a man. The same white haired stocky stranger that had confronted Gunn moments before.

"Eh bien, merde... I have to admit, I did not see this coming. Monsieur Gunn, Madame Faith... eh Spike... petite fille Cho-Ahn you all have a knack for survival that is not an exaggeration. My name is Mr. Fantoma', I'll be killing you all today. If you have any prayers, now would be the time." He sighed and took a puff from a large french cigarette in the corner of his mouth.

"Ok, silver sorcerer, or whatever you think you are... you done messed up now. You wreck my truck, and you speak french? I'm so killing you." Gunn prepared to charge, just as Faith was too, but the man said some words loudly in latin, and Gunn felt his body freeze unnaturally in an attack pose. Faith too groaned as she tried to move her supernaturally strong body against clearly strong paralyzing magic. All present were frozen in place, as the main in white, with the white hair continued to speak.

"Yes... two dark slayers, a noble vampire, and a brave but weak human, crusaders all. It is a pity to have to kill you all ... as you look so... how do the Americans say? Heroic? Still, I suppose it is better this way. Au Revior!" The magician raised his hands and channeled what looked like red lightning...it arced through the air, crackling with the smell of ozone, and radiated immense heat. Gunn looked on helpless as the man seemed to revel in the power he was summoning, preparing to fry them like so many chickens on a grill.

Present Day

"Airmidh mi air maponus, dia— na hogalachd!"
Isabella cried out in Gaelic her eyes turning a murky, milky colour in the process. It was obvious her spell had worked. The red lightning that had once filled the sky quickly dissolved leaving a slight fog. As the fog slowly disintegrated Isabella could see a tall figure standing before her.

"It couldn't be..." her voice trailed off and then Isabella sighed shaking her head, a humourless chuckle escaping her lips.

"Fantoma. It's been a long time. Wish it could have been longer." Isabella maneuvered her body carefully. She never took her eyes off his. She was like a cat, her feet touching the ground inaudibly.

"Isabella" his voice crooned. It was almost seductive but Isabella knew otherwise.

"My my! 1755 wasn't it? The Battle of Fort Beauséjour I believe." His last sentence wasn't a question, it was a statement. Fantoma knew all too well what had happened at their last encounter.

"You know it was then you little cretin. You made it pretty difficult to track you after Lieutenant arse-wipe had me in for questioning. Of course he couldn't keep me but when I was free to leave you were long gone. So what's your game now then huh? You've just come back to this dimension to cause a little havok or is there some meaning to this facade?"

The air was perfectly clear now. Scattered on the ground she recognised her new found friend Gunn but near him were three others, none of their faces she knew.

'Zod ah ma ra la ee est la gi ro sa.' Isabella spoke the words in her mind causing an invisible shield protecting herself and the others.

"My sweet Isabella you know I can't share my plans with you. You wou-.. Naughty Bella. You think a shield spell is going to stop me? And hear I thought you were intelligent! You're going to wish you'd never thwarted me!"

Mr Fantoma rubbed his palms together, mumbling an incantation generating a white light that was gradually increasing in size. Isabella's eyes widened in shock quickly identifying his spell. If Fantoma succeeded then her, Gunn and the others would spontaneously combust.

"Oh no you don't." Isabella raised her hands, it almost looked like a surrender. She heard a faint chuckle which she instantly recognised as Gunn. Unbelievable she thought. Faced in absolute danger and he was still optimistic or maybe he had confidence in the witch. Who knew?

"Spiritus in mundus un glorum suarum umitite palatum iram domine!" A light much brighter than Fantoma's crackled in Isabella's hands. With one forceful thrust she aimed it toward him striking Fantoma square in the chest. His scream was deafening and then silence. He was gone.

"Cretin." She repeated shaking her head once more. Walking over to the others she outstretched her arm to Gunn, offering to help him up.

"We haven't long. He'll be back. The spell sent him to another dimension, trouble is I'm not sure which one. Bugger. Tricky little spell that one. We should get out of here." Gunn nodded once while the others looked on in confusion.

Cho -Ahn just looked at Gunn for a few seconds " Close ?? . Two more seconds & i have to use this on you as well " she said annoyed that he seemed to changing the subject or at least trying to .

Cho-Ahn then saw Faith & yanked out her short sword while putting the stake away "You not taking me back so you can test me " she yelled at Faith
in Chinese.

Cho -Ahn gave Gunn a angry look " What do you mean the folks are scared around here. They been feeding me & finding places for me to sleep at for a couple of months & in return i keep Chinatown safe " she said in English thought it was a struggle to speak in English she was so mad .

"And why should i go to your office to get setup when i don't know you & don't really trust Buffy lite here " she said referring to Faith .

-----------------------------------------

Then a white haired man showed up & things went wrong . Very wrong .
First he called her little & then said she was a Dark Slayer before he was banished by this women who seemed very powerful .

"Great . They got a blond Willow " she said under her breath as she picked up the necklace & put it around her neck while picking up her sword before grabbing her jacket while giving Gunn a cold & hard look wanting answers & answers soon.

As the mysterious man in white vanished Gunn breathed a sigh of relief.

"Ok, next time we order in." Gunn said playfully to Faith and the rest who were recovering from nearly being exterminated by some serious mojo.

"We haven't long. He'll be back. The spell sent him to another dimension, trouble is I'm not sure which one. Bugger. Tricky little spell that one. We should get out of here."

Gunn nodded, "No arguments from me. Oh and hello by the way." He completed with a smile that was almost flirtatious, but in a flash he was back to business. "Everyone, this is Isabella, the lady who just saved our collective butts' from whoever the hell that was."

"We'll compare notes back at the office, if no one minds." He said to Isabella, and turned and looked at his truck on it's side.

"Just got her waxed too..." He said mournfully and sighed as he surveyed the damage. The reinforced struts held, and despite the heavy damage, she looked salvageable. He was reasonably sure it would be driveable, once it was all for wheel again.

"Spike, Faith, I don't mean to impose, but could you two 'immensely stronger then me' folks help out and flip this bad boy?" He asked as he turned and walked up to the newest slayer in town.

Cho Ahn seemed rather upset, her default mood was clearly more like himself before he met Angel, when he thought everything was always on his shoulders, and that he didn't want or need anyone. He understood the impulse, but he wasn't about to just let it go. Champions needed to look out for each other, even when they were giving off "leave me alone vibes"

"Look, Cho Ahn, I get it, you want to slay evil, I'm all on board with that train. You got at least triple my strength and reflexes I can't even imagine, but from what just happened there's some serious rumblings about, and if there's something big and bad and powerful like whatever or whoever that was, and you're out here on your own..."

"Trust me, I've seen the lone hero track before... and it usually ends with the lone hero on a cold slab being cried over by a combination of no and one." Gunn said as he thought back to when a few of old crew got themselves killed or turned going off on lone crusades.

"You wanna stay and slay on your own, I can't stop you, and I won't even try, but here..." Gunn handed her an Angel Investigations card with the address to the new office.

"You need help, or hell even just a place to go..." He trailed off, looking at her intently.

"Well you know what to do." Gunn finished, giving her space and time to think about what he'd said.

"I mean what do I know, I'm just a guy with an... ax." He said and turned to walk away looking for his lost weapon, only to see it laying broken next to the truck that was swiftly righted by his new comrades.

"Ok, I'm soooo done with this night." He said as he leaned over to pick up the broken pieces of the expensive weapon.

"Just got her waxed too..." Isabella rolled her eyes at Gunn's comment. Forever the drama queen! His truck was a part of him though and all jokes aside she didn't like to see her friend uspet.

Once again Isabella raised her palms a green light emerging from them this time. She whispered her incantion, her lips moving way too fast for anyone to read nor understand. With her hands aimed at Gunn's 'baby' Isabella's brow creased slightly in concentration. Several seconds had passed, her eyes returning her usual green. The kind of green that pushed its way through the piles of gritty snow to remind you that spring was coming.

"Et voila! Good as knew! You can thank me later." Isabella winked at Gunn followed by a playful punch to his arm. Gunn was just standing there open mouthed taking in the sight of his newly restored truck.

Isabella kept her introductions short but was impressed with what she saw. Two slayers AND a vampire. Gunn assured her all party were trustworthy and hey if Gunn trusted them it was good enough for her. With all champions combined Isabella was insanely confident they could once and for all defeat Fantoma.

Now that they had transportation sorted the trip back to the office would be a short one. Isabella contemplated telling Gunn to head to the nearest dive bar. A couple of stiff drinks was probably what everyone could do with right now but Isabella kept schtum. She knew that once Charles had made a decision it was very much set in stone. She silently prayed that he had a hidden bottle of the good stuff somewhere in the office. Once or twice when the two of them were alone for a bit of late night research their faces inches from one another, she'd sworn she could smell expensive whiskey on his breath.

"Are we all set? Come on Charles, I bet you're dying to try her out again!" Isabella tucked a loose strand of hair back behind her ear ready to head back to the office.

Chao-Ahn looked at Gunn for a few seconds before nodding " I go with you but i want answerers to two questions first " she said looking at him with a gleam in her eyes . "First what did you mean about people being scared of me . I had nobody say anything like that to me so i really like to know where you got that from since i been here 4 months & got nothing but goodwill from them" she told him.

Then looking at Faith she then looked back at Guun "And second i like to know what you were do if her friends were to show & say since i a Slayer i have to go with them " she said . "I was with them when it was just Buffy & Faith as the Slayers . And let me just say they were totally messed up . If it wasn't world ending i would had run away & took my chances & i don't think they gotten any better so i need to know where you stand Gunn " she said snapping her teeth closed .

Chao -Ahn then saw what Isabella did & gave a thumbs up seeing how good she was & not acting all weird like Willow did so she had a feeling they would get along real well since she had just helped out real well .

Spike was oddly sad that he didn't get to hit the french bloke. He talked too much and plus he didn't have the guts to actually fight him. While Spike turned Gunn's truck over he noticed a broken axe near the truck. That was probably expensive. " Last I saw you, you were dead." said Faith curiously probably wondering if she has to dust me or something. "Technically I'm dead now." Spike said. Faith shrugged then walked to Gunn. I followed behind her. "So, it seems you know that guy, blonde Willow. How?"

Gunn looked to Spike, and shook his head. "She and I had some dealings a while back. Saved me at least twice, though I think I was up one the last time we spoke.. She's good people, trust me." Gunn said plainly.

"I'll tell you all about it over a nice cup of..." He paused remembering wasn't a member of the warm blooded kind. "Nevermind." He jumped in the drivers seat, said a silent prayer to the god's of motor vehicles... and turned the key. The truck started, just as Isabella had promised. He hesitated, wondering just how often Isabella was going to the magic well. The last time they spoke, he'd warned her about losing herself.

"Thanks... but if you don't mind let's get going before you starts making broomsticks dance, I'll phone Mrs. Chu and arrange a meet tomorrow, has to be a reason for all that." Gunn said playfully. Magic was great in a pinch, even a witch as powerful as his old friend could run into problems f they e them themselves with deep a dive.

----

The drive home was uneventful, though he did find it hilarious to look back and see Spike sitting across from Faith. The two shot looks that were a mix between playful flirting and deeply disturbing in jokes that Gunn was just not in on. Cho Ahn and Isabella stayed silent in the cab, but he couldn't tell how the new slayer was reacting to the powerful witch.

Once home, he opened the office, and through his weapons back into the proper compartments.

He could tell Isabella wanted to talk, but he touched arm gently. As the others seemed to busy themselves talking sleeping, or grabbing a bite from the small fridge. The office had a pull out couch, and the back room had a bed, and lastly a lazy boy that reclined. He knew that whoever needed rest would grab it, and left everyone to their own business as he spoke to Isabella.

"We'll talk ok... but It's been a long one, and us mortals have to rest up if were going to be any good. You gonna stick around or pull that disappearing trick again?" He asked with a calm well meaning voice. He remembered the last time they'd seen each other, and the suddenness with which she left. He could tell she was a loner, a traveler, someone who didn't want to be tied down, but still he hadn't been ready for her to leave so soon.
